I am now half way through my d.i.y. 60k service and am at the point of refitting the cam & crank seals. The cam seals were no problem, they were reasonably easy to fit and position, the problem is with the crank seal. Now I had no problem getting it over the 'step' on the crankshaft as I used the thin plastic strip technique, the problem I have is the positioning of the seal. The camshaft seals fit so that the face of them is flush with the surround, but on the crankshaft the seal seams to have gone into the recess about 1-1.5mm. Can anyone tell me if that is right or not? The seal is sitting straight, but I am not sure if its gone in too far. I don't want to car…

My LED sidelight bulbs started flickering. I checked them out and both bulbs have melted a bit. Looks like they've got hot - part of the plastic housing has gone brown and softened and warped. I think they've been in the car for about 18 months. They were not cheap and from a good supplier. If you have 6000K HIDs you need them of they look very yellow compared to the headlights. I've got the old bulbs back in as a temporary fix and new LED bulbs on order. Hopefuly they'll be better - LED technology seems to have come a long way recently. I'm glad I've taken the melted ones out - if they'd got worse maybe they could have caused problems. I'll post a pic…

Filled up my Manual TT yesterday morning, reset the trip counter and filled up again tonight having covered 640km's (400 miles). I only needed to put in 55 litres to fill it up again!! I work that out as 33.33 mpg giving me a full tank range of 512 miles on a 70L tank. I wasn't on an economy drive, just a lot of motorway miles this weekend.

heya, went out to my Z today in minus 5, started it up and left it running to heat it up, started fine and sounded fine apart from a slightly squeeky belt. got it 2 minutes down the road and the hicas, battery, abs and lights warning lights all came on, pulled in and the car started acting up, wasnt firing properly and kept trying to stall. decided to go straight home and on my way the temp gauge started to rise, thankfully got it home fine and switched off, there were alot of bubbling noises other weird noises coming from it and a small drip of fluid from around the filler.....anyone have any ideas what has happened??? any help welcome...hate seeing the Z unhappy!! cheer…

Had a Toad AI 606 fitted today to get my insurance down and on a classic policy. When the guy was fitting it he found a black box wired to the ignition and an extra lock assister on door. Turns out after I looked on the net to be a remote autostart. I never had a keyflob for this so got him to take it out as they don't comply with Thatcham CAT 1 either apparently the guy said as they are seen as a weakness. pretty good alarm though £285 fitted remote locking , anti hyjack immob etc here's a pic of the offending remote autostarter

Honest advice needed on this please folks. My clutch has just started slipping slightly, at the higher rev end of 3rd and 4th in my UK Manual. I want to replace the complete clutch kit, but go for an uprated one, due to possible mods in power in the future. Looking at threads alot state RPS is the way to go, but some have had issues. Whats the best to go for and will involve the least hassle with bleeding etc.? While box is out, what else is worth doing as more of a maintenance side, oil seal, prop bearing etc? Cheers Stu

Hey all has anyone had their front seat belts replaced? My passenger side one is getting a bit saggy so I'm keen to fix it. Mine is a series one car with the belts in the door. Anyone know where I can get some replacements? I'm keen on getting new ones if I can rather than second hand ones. Cheers

As the title says, "Thank You" Tonight, I just fixed my inoperative Drivers window. :D Thanks to this huge database of help and information, I was able to remove my door card (eventually), remove and re-solder the window module connections and get my window working. It would have been a lot harder without all the information available on this forum, so thanks to all who contributed to the relevant articles. Now, I've only to buy new door card clips and I'll get the whole lot back together again. Next item on the list - Headlight washers are inop. :(
