no, front fogs are not a mot requirement - many cars dont have them as standard anyway.... even UK 300zx's dont have them. The only requirement is that if they are fitted then they must work.

search for the link to do your own gearbox diagnostics in the car as you dont require anything apart from moving the gearstick and turning the ignition on and off !

put it on a computer and do a gearbox diagnostic as it can only be a sensor really. probably revolution sensor which is pretty easy to change

You really should compression test the rest too mate, before it goes, so you know whats what. Does'nt take 5 mins to do the lot. For accurate results you should have all 6 removed and throttle jammed open......although thats not going to magically give you an extra 150psi lol :(
