an owner? or are you fully insured and on the road?

LOL very very expensive. Just under £5k for a full year :) lol. Looking into being put on a trader's policy atm. I have well and truly caught the z bug so I am prepared to/stupid enough to pay £5k but if I did this i'd probably end up having a year on the road then 6 months of the road to save the funds again lol. Like I say the car needs some work done on it before it can actually be driven anyway so I'm using my Ninja at the moment - looking in to some of the best mods to do while it's off the road. No power gain mods - more like poly bushes all round, aftermarket guages (oil pressure, temp, boost guage), leather retrim, indiglo dials, handbrake and gearlever gaiters, gearknob, some new rear speakers, exhaust mid section, new engine bay wiring loom, s2 PTU - just to list some of the things I've thought about lol.

I thought I'd seen a list on the forum somewhere of recommended mods but can't seem to find it. Is there one on here?

Cheers,

Vern

ive got to ask, what do you do for a job to be able to justify spending £5k on insurance?!

Most i ever paid was £1870 for 10 months 3rd party fire and theft on my BMW 323i @ 18, that was horrific enough!

Lol. I do this and that. I have a complete P.A. system and some disco lights so I do disco's now and again and I work in local theatres doing technical (sound, lights and set). I'm looking starting up my own business in photography/video and for the time being I cover various jobs at the local Tesco whilst also attending college full time. Pretty busy lifestyle but having a rest during the college holidays. Lol.

Somebody I know in a worse boat than me though - £7k for a 17 yr old on TPFT for a fiesta although admittedly he has had two crashes alread! lol! Another friend of mine pays £4k to insure his Astra van (he says it's actually less than a normal astra estate because it only has two seats ) and that's on a provisional license!!!

Lol! I wouldn't have if I was actually using the zed at the moment. Like I say it's off the road at the moment so I can invest in some recommended mods if I could find that list of things that people recommend upgrading. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I've tried using the search but can't seem to find what I'm looking for.

depends what its got at the moment and where you want to go with it.

Is it totally standard perforamnce wise? Obvious work is a boost increase w(idealy with a boost controller) with an aftermarket exhaust (Take your pick) and suitable chip (andy P or Dta) and filter (Apexi tend to be very good). Thats considered stage 1 for performance.

After then it gets expensive because its rebuilt turbos and larger injectors (555's say) and perhaps rebuilt T25's with roller bearings etc and all the assorted engine work that goes with them - Very expensive generally

Suspension wise, replacement bushings always good, depends what your looking for. Usable comfy road car or track car, id say almost replace with new standard for nice road car - it was fine when it was new.

Springs and shocks, well a popular upgrade is eibach springs and KYB shocks which is a nice firm but sporty ride im lead to believe.

Im of the old school of thought that coil overs are completly unessacery for the road and purely increase the risk of getting piles.

Big things to improve are the brakes, smithys big brake kit is a good start (what i have on mine) but the next popular bolt on upgrade is a set of R33 or R34 GTR brembo calipers. These just bolt on (well almost, R34 require a 12mm hole boring out to 14mm i think it is) and will work fine with the rest of the stock brakes. Although they obviously require new discs @ 324mm and also new pads but that should pull you up nicely. (Ive actually just rebuilt the standard calipers on mine and its made a big difference, along with some DS2500 pads and dot 5.1 fluid with the 324mm grooved discs.

Yeah completely standard as far as I know. I'm not particularly interested in the performance side of things at the moment - I just want to try and get the car looking good and being as reliable as a zed can get. I know that it probably won't be long after the car is back on the road that the turbo seals will go (it has around 80k miles on originals) so will obviously upgrade while they are off. May consider a new exhaust now though actually as the collector box in the midsection is completely fooked so might be worth getting a cat back system (don't wanna push my original turbo seals by removing the cats at this stage) depending on what the rear section of the exhaust is like. Suspension wise - it's actually not standard as it's got some yellow stuff on it lol. Think it might be Koni sport. I agree with you - I'm definately not interested in having the rock hard ride and I've also got to keep in mind that there are lots of speed bumps in my area and if I go much lower than the Koni sport that's on - I won't get it up the dropped kerb into the drive without scraping the front. May consider the R33 callipers idea though! Cheers for the reply Quavey!

Hi Mate , fair play , just please please dont stick colour changing LED's on the washer jets :))) if you search one item at a time you may find what you are looking for a bit easier

ie leather retrim ...new handbrake gaiter etc etc there is a guycalled Peter who does remarkable retrims in the combination and colour leather of your choice ...comes from scotland , drives to yours picks up your seats , brings them back about a week later fully retrimmed ...i think the email is nipponauto@blueyonder.co.uk i know he deals in ebay

sound bloke cant recomend him highly enough , he drives a zed himself so that makes him a better person

Not the youngest in the world. Quite a few guys in the states and Auz that are driving them at 16.
