  1. Quite agree, that's why I trusted him with my clutch replacement and then an engine rebuild. £750 for clutch replacement that took 2.5 hours with me helping out. They fitted a 2nd hand ACT clutch (from MarkZX's car I was later told) and charged me new price then found my almost new RPS they removed had nothing wrong with it. Still had problems getting gears and 3 weeks later the fork snapped so was obviously that all along. Trusted them to make amends after a few discussions and it went in for a rebuild and turbo repair which took 6 months of nagging and no calls being returned. Picked it up and was smoking like a chimney. They'd forgotten to fix the turbo, remove the aircon and do 2 other jobs while it was out. Back in for another 6 months and Duffer couldn't finish the job as he wasn't being paid. In 12 months I had maybe 6 calls returned when ringing on a weekly basis only to be told a pack of lies and had to visit with a few forum members on 2 occasions to get it back. Eventually had some guy calling me asking how to put my own engine back together. Went to collect and found loads of bits missing, wires disconnected, stuff not working, badly scratched paintwork and best of all a 10" crack in the windscreen. It ran OK so I got in and drove away as fast as I could before the place got reposessed.
  2. Would all you obsessed homs like to borrow it to pleasure yourselves? If I unplug it you could use it on each other in private
  3. Had it done by a local specialist who have done a few custom jobs on sports cars etc. The snap off kit isn't the cheapest option but doesn't spoil the car. Speak to Dale at: Harrogate Trailer and Towbar Centre 6 Provincial Works The Avenue, Starbeck Harrogate North Yorkshire HG1 4QE Tel: 01423 884962 Fax: 01423 888953 E-mail: dale@towbarstrailers.com He had the car in just over a day but would probably be quicker second time round.
  4. No, just need my sideskirt and front wing repainting after I scraped it on a high kirb and had a blowout taking paint off the arch :(
  5. It will have added a bit of weight but I'm not exactly short on power and I'm hoping to ditch a load more junk from the car soon anyway. The stock seats really do have to go as they weigh a ton. I lost my rear tow hook with the bodykit going on so at least the AA have something to use now  Could have bought a 4x4 or something as a second car but decided that if i'm having a week away with the boat I'd really want my Z there too so had to be done guys!
  6. LOL  Got the HICAS replaced and it's handling great again. Make sure you get the ball joint replaced that's in the hub as that was the main point of wear on mine. Big job to do though as the hubs have to come off to put in a press :( Had the Whiteline antiroll bars fitted at the same time and it's improved turn in very nicely but not made a huge difference to the amount of roll - I think that's because of the extra track I already had with the wide arches which transformed the road holding beyond belief. I've got a mate with a workshop and spray gun which I'm going to borrow :D He's done some great stuff on his own car and I really can't afford a respray at the mo. Can't do a worse job than some of the muppets out there and PaulG has inspired me with the job he did himself :) I've found a local guy for doing some of the paintwork and he's been recommended by a few people I know so going to give him a go if my own attempts aren't up to scratch.
  7. Could be anything really, need more detailed description of how it was running. Could be a faulty PTU (common fault) or AFM (MAF). If it's OK after cooling down then likely to be the PTU. If it runs but only up to 2500rpm then will be the AFM. Can also cause it to generally run rough and splutter and die. Things to check are the PTU and AFM connections for corrosion and clean them up as a start. Do a search on the above for loads of info.
  8. I thought that was your engine at first Bird! :nelson: No it's John Dixons like he said.
  9. Dead easy to nudge the mileage round with a pin ;) :x:
  10. That's why nobody really uses Bailey valves. Most of the Jap manufacturers cost more but come with the correct fitting kit. Either get an engineering company to make something up or buy something else I'd say. You might be able to use one of Smithy's hard pipe kits and mount them on there. He can get the fittings welded on I think. See the traders section.
  11. Yes they do - maybe 20 to 40bhp? Not sure on the total but around 360 to 380 ish?
  12. Not sure he's into that  Can't wait for this trip, going to be awesome! :hyper:
  13. :nana2:  :nana2: Some of you weren't far off! The Z police can leave me alone cos it's a snap-off kit that can't be seen from the road :D When removed: And this will be following me:  225bhp Yamaha V6 on the back: :p So I'll have 725bhp+ on the way to the coast this weekend
  14. Very nice job mate! Mine was looking quite good until it went to you know who :mac1: :xxx: :headvswal  Got to get it all repainted now :(
  15. Oh dear, do you have a clue what you're doing? The limiter goes on the back of the speedo housing. Fingers crossed you haven't disabled anything important...

The Brera really is a stunning car and would get one if I had the cash. 5th Gear's VBH drove the diesel one a few weeks ago and said it was gorgeous but the handling wasn't up to Alfa's usual standards :( Maybe the V6 will be a bit more sporty though. I'm a big Alfa fan and had a few over the years. They're not the most reliable cars but the 3 i've had have only had minor electrical problems and been a thousand times more reliable than this 15 year old Z
  17. Just ignore Timmy Turbot, he likes to cause trouble  That GTI-R was just a shopping car in a straight line race though, I want to see Tiff drifting like that Jun Supra vid I've got somewhere
  18. LOL I don't see the point of carrying my entire collection around - there's only so much you can listen to in a week! I've got loads of albums on my card and I just update them every now and again.
  19. You'll be pretty limited with the PDA. You can't run all the diagnostic software for the car etc but if it's just for playing music etc then it's fine. I've got a 2GB card in mine so never need to use a hard drive etc. The FM transmitters reduce the quality to... FM radio quality or less so not very good. You can buy a lead to plug your PDA into a car amp if you've got one.
  20. I think it's been OK so far this series, I'm sure there will be some top cars on there again soon. When is one of the car programs going to get Tiff or the Stig to take a modded Jap round the track? Would love to see how a modded Z/1000bhp Skyline/Supra stands up against a true supercar. Did anyone see Fifth Gear the other week with that guys supercar collection? :o How much cash has he spent on cars?!?! 2x Koenigseggs! Pagani Zonda, Lamborghini Mucielago, Porsche Carrera GT, Bentleys, Ferraris etc etc Must be millions of pounds worth LOL
  21. Everyone has a Koyo because that's what the traders seem to be selling/promoting... I've got a Howe racing rad and it's huge and very well made, no complaints from me.
  22. It's a bit odd how it failed really - It just wouldn't go down one day. It's never slowed or showed signs of straining so I thought it might just be a bad connection. I don't really want to remove it and strip it down only to find I can't get my window closed again as it's my only car at the mo LOL Might give it a go on saturday though.
  23. It's not just the UK mate. I work for Trabant in East Germany but trade has been slow since the wall came down and they started importing the 300ZX.
