  1. yup, as shunter says, jump leads to battery +ve on starter, then earth lead to engine/gearbox casing. done it before myself! :)

  5. sell the EBC & use mig tips!!!! (well someone had to say it) :D i use boost jets to 16psi without problems! i couldnt be arsed to pay out for a load of electrical equipment which effectivley does the same job as a couple of 50p mig tips. an EBC is, of course, a better way of raising pressure. & as you already have it you may as well use it now! BUT, as you say - theres no safety boost with an EBC. I think if youre going to fit one, then a knock meter is a bloody good idea too, esp if youre not mechanically minded & may not pick up on a car detting. all IMO

  7. saw 3 zeds within 20 mins of each other coming down the M1 & on to the M25 coming home from DCUK at Milton Keynes. 1st one was a black SWB with round light conversion & tailgate tub reg *** RAV, then saw a white one a few mins later going up the M1, then another black one as i got on the M25. i think they were rubbing it in as iv not been in mine since tues :cry: (was in a E class! boo!) to top it all the 1st one followed me for ages around the M25!!

  12. Polo Harlequin :D yup, remember those. I was working at a VW dealer at the time, the stupid thing was, we never ordered or sold any until VW gave every dealer a compulsory quantity to sell, feck we thought - never gonna shift those. we sold all 3 in a week :rofl:

Not entirely true. many years ago they said you had to replace the compressor, seals etc. you can now get a conversion kit, which basically consists of the newer valves, & conversion oil which is suitable for R134a & converts the old oil at the molecular level to be compatible (this is where the problem lies - the old oil doesnt dissolve in R134a) fit the kit, gas it up (new reciever/dryer recommended) & off you go!! :)

  19. i wasnt talking about failure, the gauge could also fail on an electrical one!!
  20. the evaporator chills down to about 2-4 deg c, temp at the air vents should be around 6-8.
  21. but with electrical theres a sender unit which brings in an additional element of inaccuracy ;)
  22. run the wiring through the hole for the bonnet cable, drop the o/s/f inner wing liner down & find a hole into the engine bay!! :) i mounted my switch on top of the pod on the right of the dash
  23. its illegal to regas with R12, even if theyve got some left over. iv converted mine to R134a & you wont notice the difference
