  1. RaceLogic do a launch option on their traction control system - I tried it & personally found it to be more of a gimmick & went for the adjustable traction option without the launch control. Manually launching it on max slip gives much better results IMO
  2. its all here courtesy of AndyP: http://www.300zx.org.uk/mod_comp_1.htm :)
  3. see my sig pic - 19" Jade R redone in sparkle silver :)
  4. unless really seized you can usually pump the pistons out using the brake pedal until they pop out - it may take a bit of pushing back & forth to get them moving & pull the dust covers back & use some WD40 as you go - make sure the free pistons do not come out first!! with a seized union on the pipe it is best to cut the pipe & get a socket on there - a decent 6 point socket will get much more purchase on the union without rounding it. Some freeze spray lubricant may also help. Then make up a new pipe to replace HTH :)
  5. That is quite surprising! As said - not a common issue at all. Not sure on the email address for AMG - all communication that we do goes through MBUK so we would not contact them directly for anything. Glad you got it sorted - bloody cars, will be the death of all of us!! :D
  6. Anyone going? Looks to be a good day! http://www.brandshatch.co.uk/calendar/2012/july/modified-live.aspx I think James (Jaffa) is taking part here in the Time Attack event Assuming its not pouring down with rain I should be going to this :thumbup1:
  7. I have run an RPS sport street for years - holds power well with a nice feel to it for both pedal feel & when pulling away! :)
  8. LOL! Use the reg R33GTR! I phoned up my local motor factors for some ADL blueprint pads when I got my GTR calipers - I said it was for an R33 GTR & they though that was the reg - that reg is from a Skyline GTR!! :D
  9. I too am not a big fan of the round light look but that is one of the best conversions I have seen! Nice job! :) I think the stock lights (especially in 99 spec) actually suit the lines of the zed at the rear - the smooth width of the rear acually lends itself more to how the stock lights run IMO. still - great idea & well done!!
  10. Ossian is a tester too & is bang on with his reply - unless there is a specific component found that meets the failure criteria then it should be a pass & advise In fact I am unsure how he has failed it as now it is all computerised you can only select specific items from the testing criteria! What was the actual wording on the failure?
  11. LOL!! I had to rebuild the engine on one of those a few years back!! The owner was a film director on the way down to Cannes & the engine started knocking by the time he got to us to go through the channel tunnel. The car had been completely restored & was mint! engine had been rebuilt too! Stripped it down & the crank bearings & rod bearing caps had been carefully marked for removal - and then fitted to the wrong positions!!! trashed the crank! found another & got it all built up for him. Was a nice interesting job :)
  12. No - its a different type of BHP - Brake Hampster Power. Calculated in a similar way but its measured by the amount of hampsters it takes to turn a wheel in their cage. They keep loading hampsters into a running wheel attached to the dyno & when your wheels cant turn anymore thats your BHP figure
  13. what - like a coke bottle?!
  14. WOW! A variable capacity engine! has he got motorised con rods that increase the stroke on the fly?!?!
  15. its the amount of nervous breakdowns the average zed owner has!! :D or the fact that its a 3 litre engine :)
  16. mines done around 136k miles now - 50,000+ by me in the last 10 years running increased boost etc :)
  17. I think its about a minute in an auto  :x:
  18. Before I modded my zed I was getting around 5.9 0-60 timed with a G-Tech pro - clutch was starting to slip at max torque so probably why it was a bit slower than stock quoted times. After fitting some bolt on mods (chip, boost increase, exhaust, intake, lightweight flywheel, uprated clutch) I had a best time of 4.7 - launching it right is the hardest part in a zed LOL! most times were around the 5 second mark :)
  19. I was forced to drink loads of beer & eat loads of food too while I was out there - even worse LOL!! :D
  20. To be honest I think you have just been really unlucky - it is a very unusual issue for Mercedes on any engines, let alone the AMG's! sounds like a much better price you have negotiated there - I hope all goes well :)
  21. LOL! it felt like I was going to fall out of the sunroof!! I have a vid on my iphone but appears to be too large to email. I will try to upload it some other way at some point :)
  22. The 350 engine is perfect in the SLK IMO but that AMG is just too much fun LOL! The SL has always been a favorite of mine - seriously awesome motor with some serious tech built in! I hate the GLK im afraid! They have kind of just buggered up a decent W204 C Class IMO!! We were told that they may bring out a RHD version in a couple of years but this is still unconfirmed - at this stage I think its unlikely. Other than the ML/GL/R class range we have never had any 4matic vehicles in RHD (apart from the old W124 E class of old) & you are right - it is the way the transmission & steering is configured the costs involved in trying to produce this are considered too great for the RHD markets. Shame really as they seem very popular in the states. Although it looks like we will get a 4WD 340bhp A Class AMG! :punk:
  23. Had some great fun driving around in some new Mercedes Models being released. We had to drive: The new A Class (at last - a decent small car from Mercedes - looks & drives fantastic IMO & is light years away from previous models!) The new GLK (not for UK sale) The new GL - a massive beast with an AMG option that will hit 60 in 4.9 seconds. Not bad for a huge 4x4 SUV the size of a tank LOL! The new SL - AMG63 is just fooking awesome & I want one!!! The new CLS Shooting Brake (looks as stupid as its sounds IMO !) The facelift G Class - again, the AMG63 is bonkers - shame we wont see the even more insane AMG65 bi turbo but at 240,000 Euros they thought that we wouldnt sell too many in the UK!!! A few pics: A Class G Class CLS Shooting Brake SL short vid :D
  24. Been away all week training in Berlin - but if you want to know then I'd give it to me!! :D Tough call - as is there would be limited buyers that would take this on I would think so you would have to be prepared to sell it for silly money. A Mercedes specialist would be a better solution - a far cheaper option. See what they come back with - we have a cheaper rate for older cars as do many other dealers these days, see if they will offer a decent discount first. If they are not too busy they may offer a decent rate especially if you tell them you are prepared to leave it as a "hospital" job where they can fit time in as & when they have free time. On the plus side I have been driving the brand new SL & its a fantastic motor (will post a piccy up on a new thread) - see how much they will offer against a new SL63AMG!! :D
  25. Ah, smug mode! :smartass:
