any BT or telephone engineers on here?
yea - I have seen them. Trouble is where my master socket is there is nowhere really to put my router other than on the floor! So I would really want the master put somewhere else. BT have said they would run a wire along skirtings etc but I dont really want visible wires everywhere either! I know - I'm a fussy git but ideally I would like it somehow converted if possible!

any BT or telephone engineers on here?
I could do with some advice if so :) I have been told that for BT infinity they can only put this on the master socket - in my house I have this in my kitchen. I want the router behind the TV where I have an existing telephone point so I can keep my media player, PS3 & sky box all conected via ethernet cables. Any idea if this can be converted to the master socket in any way or is it a rewire jobbie?! I have read that they can join wires behind the master socket baseplate to the extension socket & convert it in this way - is this possible? cheers in advance :)

Blue Smoke??
it could be the turbo or even piston rings but in the first instance replace the PCV valves & hoses as often this can be the cause of smoking & is a nice easy cheap repair :)

intercooler idea.
For a couple of hundred quid plus shipping you are probably better off getting a pair of Godspeed SM's from the states that you know will fit!

intercooler idea.
ah - ok, if you are talking about running them parallel (some serious pipework now needed!) then the restriction would be shared - but you still need room for them to flow air for cooling efficiently & you have also increased the lag due to increased pipework etc. best just to change them if you are going to all that effort IMO! :)

intercooler idea.
The stock intercoolers are seriously restrictive, so although you may get double the cooling you will still have the restriction (X2 now!) you would not believe the difference in the core from stock intercoolers v uprated ones. photos do not do the difference justice but I posted some on my upgrade thread here: http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?152055-My-ARC-intercooler-upgrade&highlight=arc+intercoolers

BlaZt Site
Yea - its been down for some months now, I did ask the same question back then when I looked but no one seemed to know back then what had happened. Shame as they were really helpful Datascan website is still up & running for the software however & there are other companies that can supply the cables :)

Do we have/or could we have a live chat room on here??
I remember an old thing called "the telephone" - I used to pick it up, call someone & speak live with perfect clarity. Now we wait for ages waiting for people to reply electronically - thats progress for you  ps - we also used to have a live chat room!

emmisions
Well - I am glad that I could help & pleased it passed the MOT but that is pretty bad if your car has been out for a joy ride for 70 miles! I would certainly be reporting it to the manager/owner & see what they have to say in the first instance. Keep us all posted!

Has your zed got a wiggly arse?
Hicas arms/joints or rear tracking out check the arms by jacking the rear up & shaking the wheel side to side while someone inspects for movement - replace if required a 4 wheel alignment is required after the arms are replaced anyway if this is the cause or check anyway even if no components are replaced to ensure the rear track is good - an offset track at the rear will cause it to skip in this way. Mine was terrible when I first got it & perfect after I aligned it

Yup - or he has just done the BET part which it has failed. so it would go like this- tester enters car details & selects the year range to test (1 aug 1992 & 31 july 1995) the first part of the test is a BET (Basic Emissions Test) which applies default cat limits if the car fails this then it should go on to a vehicle specific test tester needs to find an EXACT match in the emissions database (posted above - we know there is no Z32 in there) if there is no exact match (which there is not!) then the tester performs a non cat test which is: Non Cat Test CO HC if the car meets this then it passes as said - see the flow charts from VOSA on the link in post #7 easy peasy really as long as you know what you are doing! :D

just looked at the pictures in the link - for some reason the pics are the wrong way round - click on the right one first - this is the first BET test part & the pic on the left shows the flow if the car fails the BET test :)

yea - the options will be the year ranges, so the tester will select the test based on the registration date of the vehicle (in your instance 1 aug 1992 & 31 july 1995) this will select the emission test values specific for your year. If you click on the link I put up in post #7 you will see a flow chart - look at this & it should be clearer. This is what the tester should follow
-
fao paul c
nope - nothing is automated - the tester will need to know to check in the emissions database for an exact match after the BET test fails - if he cannot find an exact match then you manually set the emissions tester for a non cat test. This is the problem - you do not often have to do this & most testers are not aware so simply fail it!!
-
fao paul c
yea - lambda readings are only applicable for a cat test - as yours should be tested as a non cat vehicle after it has failed the BET test the tester should go on to do a non cat test just looking at the CO & HC readings. requirements for a non cat test are: Non Cat Test CO HC

yep deffo not in there - look for yourself: http://www.dft.gov.uk/vosa/repository/Emissions%2017th%20Edition.pdf thats the latest guide - 200SX is in it, 350Z is in it, R33 & R34 skylines too but no 300ZX Z32 ;)

OK - the tester will select the year on the gas analyzer. for your year it will default to a BET test (basic emissions test) which applies cat default limits. If the car fails this then a vehicle specific test needs to be carried out - as the zed in not in the emissions database there will be no exact match found. As this is the case a non cat test needs to be carried out. Full details are here in a write up I done years ago: http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?27060-MOT-emissions-test-on-a-zed-(cat-test) that lambda reading is waaaaaaaaaaay out (if correct - I suspect it may be 1.08!) lambda readings should be between 0.97 and 1.03 look for a high O2 (oxygen) reading - although not part of the MOT most analyzers will show this & will usually be quite close to 0% maybe as high as 1% - a reading of much more than this will often be seen with a large air leak.
