  1. Great - can you post a pic or two of that? Cheers - Gio

Fair enough, Nelson, beer it is then - sorry for trying to poison you with chemical fizz. I was working on the assumption that oop north = lager swillers. I apologise to any and all good, kind sensitive oop north proper beer drinkers. :D ;)

Ah yes - but if you'd spent a penny as well, you might have saved a kilo or so depending on how much lager you were syphoning off at the time :)

Go-on Jeff, send him your bank account details - then parcel him up and send him to 10 other e-mail addresses! No but seriously though x-biker is right. If you want to do something about it then you can report it here http://www.met.police.uk/fraudalert/419.htm or even to the Nigerian Police http://www.nigeriapolice.org/419.html Old BBC story here http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/1431761.stm I did hear of a bloke that setup a fake htmail address and strung the scammers along for a while but can't find the site where I found the story. Cheers - Gio PS

Sounds like the display is on the way out. This might also be the reason for the disappearing mouse. Today's laptops have much better screens than before - I remember I used to have to switch mouse trails on to stand any chance of seeing the cursor. Have you tried this yet? Cheers - Gio
  7. Just fyi I called Homebase and quoted the number - they didn't recognise it.
  8. http://www.nasa.gov/ 15 mins before they were due to land.
  9. Hi NitroPow - sorry for the confusion but the use uf the word "bacofoil" is just a joke ;) There is a particular type of soft self-adhesive foil available in DIY stores which is what Jeff uses. More details are here or yo ucould e-mail him directly from the Zedworld site or someone here may know the part number! Sorry again - Gio
  10. Please give at least a small thought to the astronauts who just bought the farm. B*gger. Gio
  11. No offence at all Cos - to look at this more deeply I'd have to find a cutaway of the lens / headlamp unit and draw out the optics which is just a little nit-picky and pedantic. Not like me at all lol :D Whatever the case, I've heard from enough people that this upgrade works that even I believe it - even if I'm not certain exactly why. The test would be to do the whole process to two lights but only put foil in one of them. But why bother? For the older cars being yellow, I have a dim (!) memory of something called colour temperature. The hotter the filament, the "bluer" the light - i.e. further up the spectrum. In fact, I think this may be the same thing as black-body radiation. Imagine a black body (one which reflects no light at all). Now heat it up to 50C. It will be radiating heat (not light). Heat it up still further and it will start to glow with a range of frequencies starting at Red and including more of the spectrum as you heat it up further. So the higher the temperature of your filament, the whiter the light will appear. One of the ways to make your filament glow at a higher temperature is to make it thinner so the resistance is higher. This makes it more fragile. So one of the things you need to do is to make better alloys to make your filaments with. So older bulbs were made with thicker filaments which are slightly yellower than the thinner ones which newer technology makes possible. Maybe. ;) Anyhow - all this coming from someone who remembers 6v bike headlights made by "Joe Lucas - Price of Darkness" hehehe Cheers - Gio
  12. And they're called "squabs" by the way. :D
  13. There was a thread on this last April and ChrisC found out a lot of stuff: http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=12513&highlight=compressor (edited cos Clarkey is more up to date than me on where the manual is! - Thanks Clarkey) Cheers - Gio
  14. I did a mock up of this a while back. From a couple of different angles. The red car is Jeff TT's which has had the upgrade done. The silver car is mine which hasn't (the right hand pics). But I photoshopped Jeff's headlight onto mine (the left hand pics). Personally, I think the silver looks better where the car is a contrasting colour - like Jeff's or other darker colours. I didn't like the look for mine so haven't done it. As an ex-physicist, I find it hard to see why reflective material stuck where it is can have any appreciable effect on a shaped beam coming from where it does. Someone (Hairsy?) once posted his theory that the general clean that the lenses and bulb surrounds get during the bacofoil upgrade is the major source of any benefit. This seem logical. Anyhow, be interested to see Cos's real pics rather than these faked ones. Cheers - Gio
  15. It's all a bit baffling to me. Jeff has been nothing but polite and enthusiastic over the phone and when doing work on my Zed. Top notch IMHO. I really do not think he deserves the treatment he gets from some. If someone was putting my life under the same sort of microscope, I am sure some of my skeletons (accidental as well as delberate) would get found out. But crucifixion is a bit harsh. It's as wrong to take advantage of a disability as it is to throw words like "pygmy" about. You're right - everyone deserves to be treated with respect. My post was not intended to turn the screws on Zedworld - just to look at the issues senna raised. Although probably a buddhist, I think since this is a christian country "let he amongst you who is without sin, cast the first stone". ("And even if - and I want to make this very clear - I do say the word 'Jehovah'") Cheers - Gio
  16. And.. and... and...... as soon as I can think of a snappy come back, I'll post one :D
  17. Of course - he believed in mass resistance and mass civil disobedience! hahahahaha :D I threw "Ghandi" and "mass" at google and came up with loads of stuff including a speech from Nelson Mandela so that neatly closes the loop ;)
  18. Hi Senna, the copyright in (say) a piece of writing always rests with the original writer. They may (if they choose) assign the right to reproduce to others (fnaar) on a limited or unlimited basis. While I was researching the answer to this, I found this which pretty much agrees with what I dimly remember from the old law course. He summarises: There's a pretty simple rule when it comes to the net. If you didn't write it, and you want to reproduce it, ask the creator. Most people don't really need to know much more than this I also found a reference which said that "There is no such thing in UK law as public domain". But anyhow, if that link you sent is on Zedworld and the text came from Henri then a slapped wrist is in order. (now, where did I leave that pedant crown polish!) Cheers - Gio Oh and PS to readers - Templeton's site is well worth a gander if you're a geek or proto-geek
  19. To take a different slant, "all that is needed for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing". I take your point. I think the Asimov quote (last resort of the incompetent) is closest to what I feel. WW2 (to take a historical example so as not to start a fight - hopefully) was necessary to liberate the world of the evils of Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan. But there were so many wrong decisions taken by all sides in the lead up to the war - millions would have been spared had a few of these been right. In my conscience, I should allow myself to be killed rather than inflict violence on another. But would I have the strength of commitment to do so? I doubt it. Still, none of us are perfect eh? And a last Ghandi quotation. He was asked "what do you think of Western Civilization?" He replied: "I think it would be a good idea." :D Cheers - Gio
  20. Ghandi liberated an entire subcontinent without swatting a fly.
  21. 1) shouldn't that be "smw1" not "SMW1"? 2) It was Nelson's request anyway, not smw1's. 3) H2S is quite right. Both for smelly farts and bad eggs.
  22. 1) yes - he could (and should). Anyway it's only hypothetical as you haven't broken the law yet (well at least in moving house anyway ;) ) So I would think it quite in order to take advice about the possible consequences if (a) or (b) were to happen. 2) yes I think you're right about when the dosh is handed over. But it takes some time before it works it's way from solicitor to solicitor and I think that if a solicitor was alerted to a breach of contract, then it would stay in the chain until sorted out. Good luck - Gio (BTW what speakers?)
  23. Anyhow, on a lighter note, did you know that if it wasn't for the covalent nature of Carbon-Carbon and Carbon-Hydrogen bonds, we'd dissolve every time we farted in the bath. :) - Gio
  24. When you're selling a house you have to fill in a whole bunch of stuff. Amongst this, you will find a "Seller's Property Information Form" and "Fixtures, Fittings and Contents". The latter covers fixtures and fittings and whether or not they are included in the sale. The Property Information Form says "Incorrect information given to the buyer through your solicitor, or mentioned to the buyer in conversation between you, may mean that the buyer can claim compensation from you or even refuse to complete the purchase". If it is a condition of sale that you do certain things then you must do them. If it is not a condition of sale, then you don't have to do anything. And as for payment it works that she (and or mortgage supplier) pay the purchase price to her solicitor who - assuming the contract completes correctly and with no hassle - pays it to your solicitor who either pays it on to the solicitors of the people you are buying from or to you (after deducting fees etc). So if someone reneges on a deal (either written or verbal), then her solicitor will refuse to hand over money to your solicitor until it is sorted. And even if it has been paid, they can get it back (ask your brief about "escrow" and so on). Screwing around on a house sale is one of the quickest ways to become homeless. Anyway - the best place for legal advice (and the only one legally allowed to give legal advice) is a slicitor so best ask one of them, really. Cheers - Gio
  25. I shouldn't, matey. You'll risk getting her solicitor to hold back the payment to your solicitor and then it'll all go tits up. Breaking a contract is rarely a good idea especially when there are two sets of solicitors in the way and they will end up being the only ones who make money out of it. Cheers - Gio
