Hatch Struts
It kept falling on my head even after the new struts! :D No but seriously though, there were a few a threads about this here. My spoiler paint finish had started to crack and lift with a few bubbles. I spoke to a couple of members - first off was JeffTT - and that was how I found out about the waterlogging. Apparently the original spoiler is some plastic foam-y compound over a steel core support. When the finish cracks, water gets in and starts to rust the support and waterlog the foam. If you just respray the spoiler, lo and behold the bubbles and cracks just recur. Also apparently, you can eventually dry out the spoiler to respray but this is a PITA. SO I was recommended to get a fibreglass pattern one. Which I did. Spoiler itself is fine, fitment was by a bunch of gorillas so is now on the to-do list! HTH - Gio

Cleaning / lubricating aerials
Thanks for the good advice guys, here's the report. A quick spritz with WD40 made it better but still not quite as smoooooth as it could be. Off to Harry's and ask them for some of that PTFE stuff. PFY says no we don't do that - suggests a tin of white grease (!). I persist and eventually he asks someone with more than one brain cell who says that'll be upstairs in the cycle department. Up we go, chat to bloke with mountain bike and bigger beer gut than mine and he says what you mean is GT85. Black/red tin with red top. Just like WD40 but with PTFE so it leaves a thin lube layer as well as cleaning. Says it works a treat for squeaky door hinges as well! Just gave mine a few blasts and rub down (kitchen towel only) and works a treat. Glidey glidey. I was suprised how many up/downs were needed (gentle squirt of the tin each time) before black gunk stopped coming out at the junctions every time the aerial came back up again. But eventually, it comes up clean. The moral of this story is that if you have something that needs to go up and down smoothly is look after it, keep it clean and exercise it regularly. :D - Gio

Hatch Struts
Have you got a standard Nissan spoiler on the back? If so, it might be that this is waterlogged and hence too heavy for the struts rather than the struts failing. I got caught with this, bought 2 new struts and the tailgate still fell on my head until I ditched the old spoiler and fitted a lovely fibreglass one from the ZCentre. Cheers - Gio

Painting the front spoiler
Hi Russ - I wimped out and got a so-called professional to do it. Last October. Paint already peeling off. I'm now saving up for a trip to FG in Nottingham to get this done and the spoiler fixed. Can't quite face the trip to the frozen north! Cheers - Gio

I hate the French
I had to work for the French for 6 years. Some were nice as pie. But some were arrogant, rude, self-opinionated and looked down on anyone who wasn't French - especially loathing the Brits and the US. You couldn't trust them, they lied and cheated. Nice behaviour from a country which has had to be rescued twice by the UK / US. Humph - Gio :(

Tvr cerbra? whatdya reckon??
Well, they're OK if you like plastic cars made in Blackpool powered by the Rover V8. Which I think someone once told me was a copy of the Chevy V8 or is that just idle gossip? Actually, I quite like them. A mate's got one (his second) and he is well chuffed. But he did get his dad to be co-owner and keeps it at his dad's house 'cos he can't use it as a daily driver..... And they are just performance sports cars - they have no other use. If you want a reliable daily driver with performance, I might suggest a Japanese make (loads of dealers, plus specialist engineers plus normal price parts easily available). A coupe would be nice for the extra space - emergency rear seats (well you wouldn't want to use them regularly not unless you really hate the adults you're forcing to sit in the back). And you've got loads of room for ICE if you want it. A nice V6 with turbo for excellent performance and room for easy / medium / hard performance upgrades depending on your wishes and wallet. Lots of tech - 4ws, sensors all all over the place for the ECU. Timeless very cooool looks. That lift in the heart rate every time you plip the remote to get in it. Traditional front engine / RWD for that proper sports feel. The smile as you idle for a few moments before setting off just to get the oil circulating nicely. That enormous sh1t-eating grin as you hit the first motorway sliproad after everything has warmed up nicely. hmmmmm wonder where I can get one of those from? hehehehe :D - Gio PS "dollar for dollar - it's the best damn sports car on the planet" still true!

electric super charger fitted
To be honest, no idea mate. Just that I found the site when I got intrigued in your post about electric superchargers and wasted time when I should be working on search engines! Is it the same piece of kit as the one you've got? If so, it might be worth dropping them an e-mail. The supercharger theory seems to work OK but whether or not you can practically get any advantage on fitting to such a sophisticated motor is a moot point. Think I'll let someone else find that out! Cheers - Gio

Red light & Hesitation
Yes, I think that is the cat overheat light. Only on Jap models, I think. Mine does that from time to time (very occasionally). Sometimes because it is just hot. I would doubt that the light coming on causes the hesitation. It is just telling you you've got a problem. I would guess that if you disconnected the light without curing the problem - you'll still get the hesitation. Cheers - Gio

Starting me car .......
I get this when my battery is on the way out (or, as has been said, some bad connection somewhere). The bendix isn't spinning quite fast enough to get the gear to engage fully with the teeth on the flywheel. So it graunches. So battery or connections - or starter motor is my guess. Good luck - Gio

Nice one, Ross. You'll also find a lot of good stuff at AndyP's site . Hope you find a good'un. Cheers - Gio

Which service, when to replace timing belt?
Because I got my import serviced when I bought it, the service intervals don’t match with the “correct” mileage – and it’s in km anyway! The services should be A B A C A B A C etc with A being the little one and C being the biggy. In theory, my next services should be B at 145,000km, A at 155,000km and C at 165,000km. The timing belt was replaced at 71,300km and since it should be replaced every 100,000km, it looks as if I can wait until the next C service at 165,000km. The water pump failed just after that. Does this mean I should replace the water pump now (preventative) or wait until when the timing belt gets changed and do the two at the same time? Are there any other jobs / parts replacement that should be done at the same time because you’re fiddling around there anyway? Aaaand lastly, I had a new set of plugs at 91,000km which also have a 100,000km interval which means new plugs at 191,000km. Is this about right or do the worthy and experienced gurus have words of wisdom for a humble ex-hippy who doesn’t know one end of a spanner from the other? Thanks in advance - Gio

Somebody likes the French!
Five surgeons are discussing who makes the best patients to operate on. The first surgeon says, "I like to see accountants on my operating table, because when you open them up, everything inside is numbered," The second responds, "Yeah, but you should try electricians. Everything inside them is color-coded," The third surgeon says, "No, I really think librarians are the best; everything inside them is in alphabetical order." The fourth surgeon chimes in: "You know, I like construction workers. They always understand when you have a few parts left over at the end and when the job takes longer than you said it would." But the fifth surgeon, Dr. Morris Fishbein, shuts them all up when he observes: "The French are the easiest to operate on. There's no guts, no heart, no balls and no spine. Plus the head and ass are interchangeable."

Toyota Advert
Aaaah that one - just been on. Marvellous. If you fancy a happy trawl through the web looking for it's inspiration, put "Rowland Emmett" into a search engine. (and if you ever saw the (completely-shite-compared-to-the-books) movie Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Emmett was the bloke what did all the crazy machinery in that. Cheers - Gio
