Red garage UK Queen
Started doing a compression test just now on on a cold engine so i know it might not be very accurate. But stopped after 3 cylinders as i found it pointless to carry on. Cylinder 1, spark plug soaked, 135psi. Cylinder 2, spark plug dry, 60psi. Cylinder 3, spark plug wet, 205psi, also compression tester end was wet after test. Wiped it with white tissue which ended up green, so coolant. So one side clearly dumps coolant into. Ylinders the other is very low on compression. Should i still expect a headgasket or something cracked? Whats a better financial option? Look for replacement engine or try and fix this hoping there isnt too much damage done? One thing for aure it did not overheat.

Red garage UK Queen
As some of you have seen my Z gave up on me yesterday. After three years of it going from garage to garage, it lost power and covered half of Aberdeen in white sweet smelling smoke. Quickly pulled up and had my missus pull me back home. It has been years since i have been pulled by a rope and it is not a pleasant experiance. With the help of neighbours pushed back into the garage. Quick inspection today after work the front of the engine bay is all covered in fresh coolant. All hoses still secure on radiator and the hardpipes going to engine dry. Small green puddle inside radiator fan. Feels like the pressure have built up so high that it just started spraying through radiator cap, which is brand new Mishimoto one. Took the intake pipes off all clean no oil or metal residue so i reckon turbos ok. Checked oil dipstick. Oil is still clean. Coolant is clean aswell. Next step is to do compression test. I will use this thread to note all finding and progress. Any thoughts are encouraged and appreciated. It does feel like a major headgasket failure. Please bear with me as progress will be slow for the start.

What did you do to your zed today?
Atleast it looks good sitting in the garage. I am more dissapointed that i will not be able to use it as our wedding car next week than it breaking. I am not sure just happened. Will need ti raise it up and have a look. There is coolant splashes at the front of engine bay. Barely runs/starts and loads of sweet white smoke. Hope it is only a headgasket. I did shut off quickly so hope no more damage done.

Quite a busy day. Managed to eventually MOT the Z. Then catastrophic engine failure.... cloud of white smoke and died.

Radiator drain plug
Hi, Does anyone know the size of o ring on the drain plug on radiator? Mine started leaking slightly. Or is it sealed there any other way?

What did you do to your zed today?
Done a wuick oil change. First time under the car. Rust is not bad but suspension is more or less all shot. Wtf is this? Was used as a sump plug washer. Made from plastic. Also replaced probably a 26 year old clutch fluid. What a pain working with a vacuum pump and a 50ml reservoir. Was the colour of the engine oil... that fixed my crunchy second gear. Next step will be to replace all fluids. I bet most of them never been changed.

Yes, got the 350z steering wheel now. I know it might not be to everyones taste. Mine neither. But the original was disintegrating in my hands.

Replaced steering wheel on my silver one. Old one was disgusting to touch. Cost just £26 posted off ebay. Any ideas how to wire a horn?

Risk it for a biscuit - bought a -potentially- broken Z
Piston had a crack on the top about 1mm from the side. While it was taken out it actually broke off. I guess the piston ring tension was the only thing holding it together. So i was close to a disaster. I do not have any pictures unfortunately.

Just had a look at your spec. If it is what it says it shouldnt be the case for you. But it doesnt hurt to get a camera in while doing a compression test.

Risk it for a biscuit - bought a -potentially- broken Z
My guess was a bad job done by a specialist and the way previous owner treated the car. Knock sensor was non operational. And the car was running increaed boost with no tune. It is all fixed now

I had exactly the same problem. Ended up to be a cracked piston. Both leakdown and compression was showing good numbers. Did change pcv valves and hoses at first which had no change.

I like this.
In my opinion as long as the repairs were done professionally, those cars are just great valie for money. Me and my missus we both drive cat d cars as dailies. One bought as cat d one that i rebuilt myself as it had no frame damage. Just bolt on new panels and lights at the front. They drive as good as non damaged and look the same. As long as it drives straight, panel gaps look the same and there are no visible cable tie fixes it will be good. Check the 4 wheel alighnment if more picky. Being an old car some of the Zs on the road are more dangerous with their rust or bad modifcations than any repaired accident car in my opinion.

Another one bites the dust
I will not be surprised if the car will be exported. Last one was exported to Lithuania and was stripped and all sold within a couple months.

HICAS - How does it work and what if it doesn't work?
Looking at comments about all zeds that come up for sale there is nothing worth buying. At this rate there will be no new members coming and no new zeds appearing unless imported. Not all of them are that bad and because of a few problems should not be written off it is not some 2003 fiesta. Those cars are rare and need maintenance and they will require money invested. Hicas problem is not much of a problem. 150 quid and you have zcentre/driftworks arms to replace the whole hicas stuff at the back. Thise cars are now approaching 10k value for great examples. Anyone is going to dissagre that this car would not be of good/great standard after investing 3-5k?

Another one bites the dust
https://www.copart.co.uk/lot/43154028 Shame to see another one off the road. Been over a year since one shpwed up on copart and that one was exported. Clearly not the best example but it is nice to see insurance valued it at £6000. Even insurance agrees our cars are going up

UK TT Manual 90'
I don't have my vin handy but i remember it ended with 019x so i believe one of first 200 uk examples. I do like the wheels, but they are very tired and have not been refurbed but are straight with no cracks or bends. I am still thinking if i should refurb or replace. The list of what was needed to be done which is not exhaustive as I am sure i forgot something. And it is nowhere near to be finished. Sills rotten all round. New sills were fabricated and welded in with new targa drains and cavities wax sprayed. Rear subframe rotten. Replaced with good used one. Brake pipes rotten/leaking. All replaced with new copper lines and braided HEL flexis. Suspension worn and two speings broken. Replaced with a full set of driftworks arms, zcentre hicas delete arms removing balljoins and tein coilovers. Front calipers seized. Refurbished with new discs and pads all round. Steering rack boot cracked. Replaced with new tie rods both inner and outer. All fuel lines replaced under car. Because why not? Full underseal. Full respray in honda r41 colour(i think) same as civics. Maf shot. Replaced Knock sensor shot. Replaced Recirc valves shot, replaced with greddy made to recirculate. Piston cracked, engine strip down full inspection. Replaced with second hand one( start throwing stones). Nee bottom end bearing as worn and new piston rings. Turbos tested. Thankfully all good. Clutch worn. New xtd one installed. Newish 2 year old oem wiring loom. Speedo broken, replaced with second hand one. Trims refurbished. Spoiler manufactured from fibreglass. Not happy with it so might replace it eventually. Interior all good. Driver window mechanism broken, replaced. Front wiper mechanism worn, replaced. There are a lot of stuff that might have not needed replacing but was still replaced for better parts which i have now lost track of. Will leave a full mod list for the next day. Sorry for making a mess of this post.

UK TT Manual 90'
After 4 years of hiding I think it is time to show my z. Bought the car in 2014 which was a mistake but stuck to it and saved another scrappy i reckon. I will add mod details eventually for starters some pictures will do. What do you want for us to enable you to subscribe ?
There are some realy great ideas. It got me thinking and some ideas even excited. I think car of the month should be revived from which a calendar should be produced and then sold at a profit to memebrrs and profit to be used to fund the club. Also create a form to apply for use of banners. Most of us do go to random events and could promote the club everywhere other than using them 5 times a year in major shows. Virtual garage is amust and achievemnt badges are a great idea. Also more smaller club meets in multiple locations would be great even if all is paid by owners. Lets admit it a night of hotel and a couple meals will not break anyones bank considering we own zeds.

I come and visit forum daily but i very rarely post. I am not subscribed and i doubt i will, i was a subscribed member for two years and I just did not see enough value for me to to pay the fee. Mainly because of my location (Aberdeen), there are no scottish club meets which i would like to attend if there were any and coming to Coventry once a year would be a massive inconvenience. In my personal view subscription to forum is more or less is just paying for permission to sell stuff on the forum and allowed to attend meets and to represent club at the stands, yet again the numbers of zeds in uk are so small that i have seen a trend of allowing just registered members to join. In my opinion this £1 charge might drive some people away and isolate current members from the rest of the world.

Unplugged MAF
Auick question. My maf have died and i need the car to do up to 100miles this weekend for a wedding. Is there any consequeces of driving the car with maf unplugged. There will be no spirited driving. I believe the ecu will go on a basic map and will probably overfuel a bit. Should i worry about something? Car is uk tt manual. I have a choice of jdm tt manual, uk tt auto and mines ecus. Is there a particular one i should rather use?

H3 Headlamp Bulb Removal
Anyone ever tried putting in d1s bulbs with an adapter to fit them? They can be quite expensive but they come with ballast on the bulb. Not sure if they would actually clear inside the headlight. No ballasts to find and MOT is all look no touch except for brake pipes.
