changes today / new server / e-mail accounts / help needed
lol nah mate, the untold ones are the commitee members running through paper work, sorting out traders, discussing politics, sorting out members problems :D, and all the event organisers and the members who take time to go to meets and contribute to the forum, and of course the traders. i just do stuff that is fun lol and I like to let people know what is going on.

changes today / new server / e-mail accounts / help needed
These are mostly background changes, but you should notice some improvement on site performance, these are temporay measures until the new server comes online, 1) Banners, these used to be generated by a custom CGI script I coded, it was a cheap hack using perl and was effecting server performance, this has now been removed and replaced with an integrated vbulleting script that does the same job with a lot less overhead 2) rides section, this has been updted to the latest revision, images have been removed from the database and moved to the filesystem, thumbnails are no longer generated on the fly, which saves us a lot of processing power. New Server ********* We have finally got some new hardware for this site coming, it will be moving off of the shared box and onto this spec machine: • SuperMicro case and motherboard o On-board VGA Controller o On-board 10/100 LAN Controller • Genuine Intel™ Pentium™-4 2.8GHz Processor • 1024MB DDR RAM • 2 x 80GB 7200RPM IDE HDD We will be using fedora core 3, mysql 4 and Apache2, This should drastically improve the performance of the site. E-mail ***** When on the new server we will activate a new modification to Vbb which we have purchased, this is Vbwebmail, this will allow all SUBSCRIBED members to have their own personal 300zx.co.uk e-mail address accessed via this forum. Other - Hosting ************ This site has been hosted on my network for over 18 months now, in this time the club has not had to contributed towards costs of hosting, mainly due to my insistance, however as we are now in a better financial position with the excellent contribution made by members and traders alike actions are underway to get a contract in place for the club for a co-lo contract, the cost of this runs to £25 a month and basically as we are spending a considerable sum on a new server this will grant allocated members of the commitee legal access to the server, I don't want to be blamed for running off with the hardware in 6 months ;) A lot of people approach me and think the site is hosted in my bedroom, I can assure you that we are hosted in an extremely secure datacentre, all servers are rackmount, my company operates its own fully BGP'd 300mbit network, fully airconditioned with 3 phase power and state of the art fire extinguishing gases. Help needed ********* I am desperately in need of someone to come forward and help with site development, someone with a good eye for design and colours, a grounding in webdesign would be benificial but not necessary, I can help with the technical side of things, just I couldnt design my way out of a 3 year old art class lol. Cheers guys, things are getting better :D ;)

Is it me
o and btw, lmao, its years since i've seen alf :D lol

Is it me
lol, the message "i am updating the rides section" may have been a bit of a hint, no problems, I'm just trying to improve the speed of the site today, I have to do these things before my ADD kicks in and I suddenly loose all interest in it and go on to growing tulips :D

Banner Placement
fixed, I have removed my old hacked around cgi banner rotation script and put a replacement into vbulletin using php, you should notive an improvement in response of the forum due to this
-
Banner Placement
I'm playing with some things, testing to improve performance, the banner will go back where it was shortly :)

Should we have a Speed trap zones section?
What I think about speed cameras: 1) they should have the speed limit stuck on the back of them, this way none of this fudging around with speedlimits that some authorities do. If you get nicked then you have little come back. 2) re: astrassuck - I think before such speed cameras their should be a step down zone outlined when their are drastic speed changes (40-70, 70-40), This wold probably aid congestion also in some cases.

Engine is almost halfway there:D
I don't think its possible to appreciate the work thats gone into it without seeing in the flesh, without going into bling, it is probably the cleanest zed engine bay I have ever seen, its like the tardis, there is something to be said for DIY but there is also something to be said for professionals doing it, you certainly can see where the time went in the fabrication of the bits you can see, god knows how much extra time was spent on all the things you can't.

Curry Favs
usually anything hot, although i havn't eaten a phal in 7 years lol, the time may be right soon :D. the more drunk i am the hotter, but usually end up with madras or vindaloo, i like ceylon and dansak for its flavour, I had my first vindaloo when i was 8 after my chicken curry order got consfused. Phal has the most beutiful taste of any curry I've ever had, it just is not very nice in the morning when its trying to come out of both ends :D
