The stock guage is electrical, located at the back of the engine bay on the drivers side, its fed by a vacume pipe from the balance bar iirc and its a black box

Might not be much help but scotty was having trouble with safety boost when putting boost jets in, maybe give him a pm?? Also might just be worth the couple of hundred quid on a electronic boost controller so your safe as i understand that you can get boost pressure spikes with the welding tips. So perhaps the boost is spiking and its detonating then going into safety mode??
