I hope no one is getting annoyed with the amount of new threads im creating will subsribe soon promise.

Ok

1. Full exhaust is fitted + cat bypass, its a 1991 so i dont think it had cats at that age.

2. induction kit fitted

3.been chipped for increased fuel/ air for safe increase boost.

now i looked at the tuning tips section in this forum and saw the cheapest way to increase boost which was the boost jet method, i thought this was perfect for me as im a lazy bugger.

i have done exactly what it said and put mig welder tips with a 1m hole in the correct pipes.

when i first turn on the car let it warm up etc i get a nice increase in boost say 1 bar or bit less. but after a couple burns on the throttle it goes back to normal boost, if i turn ignition off and on while rolling or stopped at lights i get 1bar again for a while then back to normal boost.

is the ecu limiting the boost? although its no where near safety boost.....

anyone know what it could be?

1mm is a bit small, not sure how much boost you will get with that. You should start with 1.4mm and work downwards to 1.2, 1.1 or perhaps 1.0 checking the boost on an accurate boost gauge - the standard one is not. If you have set this up close to the limit in the Winter, then it WILL detonate in the Summer.

Therefore, I suspect it's detonating and reverting to standard (safety) boost. Do an ECU check to see if there are any error codes.

Also, remember that if you have raised extended boost by 30%, then you will have also raised standard boost by 30%, so it will no longer be so obvious that it is in standard boost.

i couldnt find any bigger than 1.0 wheres a good source for jets i can buy today, as no one seems to know what im going on about in hardware stores.

why would it be detonating? you thinkknock sensor? seems to be running fine tho.

  • Author

also the left intake pipe seems to be very soft and squidgy do you think it may be expanding to much?

Any welding supply shop - you need to ask for Mig Tips.

Thats the thing i cant find one, i can only find machine mart and they are useless they only have .8, 1.0 and 1.6 thats no use. anyone know of another hardware welder company.

ithink i will check my knock sensor and o2 connectors maybe they need a clean.

agree with AndyP, you're detting and going back to safety mode.

one of the connectors wires has come off near back of engine bay theres alot of similar ones there and they are grey but how do i know they are the right way round coz they have the same connectors maybe someone put them back wrong. damn it,

ok i have now tried using a 1.2m boost jet, got less boost than that of the 1.0m tip but im getting the same problem, the boost last a few bursts then goes back to normal boost frustrating grrrrrr

surely if i use a 1.4m tip it will hardly make a difference so whats the point.

im sure il be getting the same prob with a manual bleed valve or eletronic one ....no?

does anyone know why it is doing this? and if it is deting then what could resolve it?

should i upgrade my injectors/fuelpump i heard they are good for at least 1 bar. could my injectors be pooped? sensors? knock sensor etc???

any ideas?

Might not be much help but scotty was having trouble with safety boost when putting boost jets in, maybe give him a pm??

Also might just be worth the couple of hundred quid on a electronic boost controller so your safe as i understand that you can get boost pressure spikes with the welding tips. So perhaps the boost is spiking and its detonating then going into safety mode??

  • Author

Its not really spiking as its holding the boost quite well, it boosts gradually.

i think im not getting enough fuel in.

old car. old injectors fuel pump, turbos, hmmmm

i still wanna go faster tho.

have you got an aftermarket boost gauge?

  • Author

yes i have, my fiat coupe was never this complicated, bloody japs, u got to love em.

Nope sorry, safety boost will still be the same level even with boost jets ;)

Check for error codes as soon as the level drops, sometimes there can be a bad connection on the det sensor and with the increased vibration it generates a code 34 and you get safety boost

Cheers,

What psi/bar is safery boost? because its not safety boost its reverting to. just back to standard boost.... i think 90%

safety boost is 7psi, stock boost is 9.5psi

  • Author

yeah its no way safety. what kinda boost levels are peeps getting here with stock turbos injectors pump but performance air filter exhaust andchip?

  • Author

hmmmm maybe il bypass the det senso then run whatever i like... hahahaha yes my plan to rule the jap z will suceed yeeees hahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Most average between 12-14psi and you deffo don't want go any beyond a bar (14.75psi) until other mods are done.

ok il try get it to stay at around 14psi with maybe a 1.4m jet if i can bloody find one jeeze..... hmmm what else could i use with a 1.4m hole????? has to be perfectly machined.

one more question,

if i buy an electronic boost controller can i run very very very low boost like bearly even 1psi so that when just cruising i could use less petrol or does it not work that way/ ive always wondered?

You can't go below the setting of the stock actuator - 7psi

oh i see. ok think im just guna buy a manual boost control as all this boost jet stuff seems stupid and cheap and is taking up my time and skin on my hands.
