# 4 - what am I doing? Little build thread!
Met up with AndrewG and Joel today at the paint shop. A little slow going although the lower part of the car has a white primer on it, as does the front end. The glass was removed late last week, so final prep on the top should be going ahead shortly. Some parts will be going in for paint next week. Test fitted the spoiler today, first time I've done this, just to run through with the painter a number of details and how its going to be sealed up and bonded on. Fits like a glove! Something you never get on replicas. Well worth the money on the genuine article in my opinion. Also, one of the door rubbers turned up today. The other side is now no longer available from Japan, but Z1 had one in stock luckily and that's now on its way over The new seal is lovely. Should fit really nicely. New one on top which looks a little 'fuller', old one slightly saggy and degraded a little.

alcantera colour
Nope. Alcantara was generally available on 93 onwards when specified with leather. They're both nice. Jimmer also has a number of good velour interior panels - so you could have yourself a decent set with both of them and a bunch of spare material. As for the seat belts, you can still use the newer rear quarter panels, they unlip from the upper. You can either live with that, get seat belts from a series 2 fitted or do what I did and scoured the internet in the US and eventually find a set of US spec velour rear quarters from a 2+2 with no seat belt cut outs. Took me about a year and a half to do that, very rare and hard to get hold of.

If it's Elly's interior you've bough, it's not alcantara, it's velour.

Boot Trim
There's a gap in the middle where your hand goes to lift the back. The same clip-on trims that space the perspex strip from the boot are the same for all model years. FYI, new they are only about £30ea from Nissan UK.

little wheel help
If you want a better selection of wheels that would fit and are on a budget, have a look at Japan Racing wheels. https://www.driftworks.com/jr-wheels/ Some nice styles. I wouldn't go for a cast wheel personally, but they are likely to fit better than the ones above. As a minimum for aftermarket wheels you'd want at least an 8" at the front and a 9" at the rear, at the very least. Offsets on those you want no higher than +20 at the front with that width and +30 at the rear. You can get spacers to make it look a little better if you can't achieve that fitment. Personally I'd save up a little and get some used forged wheels.

Avoid both of them. Not least because they're cheap and of low quality but because of specification. Too narrow, offsets are no good, they'd look very unflattering if you were to fit those. Stock UK TT wheels would look better and the rears would be wider than both of those. The style of the first ones look OK, the style of the second ones - urgh. Bit Nike-Air-Max.

# 4 - what am I doing? Little build thread!
Some other detail parts today. Nothing that exciting but I got chance to pull apart a 96 car today, there wasn't much in it that I wanted however something I've been looking for, for ages, were the little lock surrounds on the door handles that fade and degrade! They also break very easily and both mine were in an appalling state. They both look like this and despite my best efforts to rescue them, they look like shite. You can't buy them separately. Despite the poor condition of this 96 car I was pulling apart, the door lock surrounds are near pristine! This feeds my OCD and makes me super happy! It's often all about the detail! Something I also noticed were the colours of the gasket plastic for the door handles. Early models have a sort of faded grey, I found a pair of clean black ones. Should look a little more crisp. Never noticed the difference before.

Question regarding UV plastics and glues on 93+ Z32s
Based on the exchange rate back than, that's not too bad. I'm going to have a look at a 96 dash today. I have another spare too which is pretty good. I'm trying to buy up as much OEM stuff as I can at the moment as the rate of obsolescence picks up. Two parts that have recently gone that I was gutted I didn't get new were the exterior plastic finishers for the door pillars (where the window runners slide on the doors) and the early third brake light. They've literally gone in the last 6 months. Tried direct from Japan too and nothing.

Question regarding UV plastics and glues on 93+ Z32s
I think 93+ cars had better quality plastics in some areas though, seat belt buckles etc. How much was your dash out of interest?

Question regarding UV plastics and glues on 93+ Z32s
Probably something that no one will be able to answer, but I'm going to ask it anyway. Does anyone know whether Nissan changed or added a UV additive for plastics and glues used on Z32s manufactured from 1993 onward? The reason for my question is mainly due to noticing the dreadful seat belt buckle discolouring seen on pre-93 cars. I changed mine about 10 years ago as the orange had turned into a faided powdery colour. The replacement buckles were from a 93 car and have retained their colour. Other Z32s from 93 onwards I've noticed have never had the faided buckle release and most pre-93 cars have. I've also noticed that dashboards on 93+ cars don't peel like earlier models. You could say, well that's because they're newer however I've seen dash peeling on Z32s for years and years now which makes me believe that 93 onward cars have better UV stabilisers in their glues and plastics. Might be wrong though?

Don't always give up on obsolete stock.
About £500 from memory for the spoiler. I'm not sure how many are left, if at all. Your best bet is to call your local dealership and give them this part number. J603042P25, there is a superseeded part number of J603042P28. They're NLS in the US.

How about the cup of tea you made from a stationary jet just by firing up its APU? Most expensive cup of tea ever I think!?

Yeah, I think it will be well worth it! With new window rollers, it should feel lovely. I am contemplating getting new check-straps too, although mine aren't worn. I have to stop somewhere! haha!

Some more pricing comparisons. 7686032P02 large t-top weatherstrip. Starting to flinch a little, but I want them anyway before they are NLA. Per-side prices: http://www.nissangenuine.com = £258.79 incl. VAT + UK shipping, estimate £265 Nissan UK = £282.37 incl. VAT Courtesy Nissan = $292.76 = £228.79 + import duty + shipping (est £300)

General Election Called for 8th June
Isn't that what Gordon Brown and the Labour party did? The only thing the Tories did wrong in recent times was to offer a referendum to the uniformed over our membership of the EU. I'm often on the fence about a number of political parties, but I could never vote Labour. Their last two party leaders Ed Milliband and Jeremy Corbyn are/were dreadful. LibDems could make a viable opposition if they had a strong leader. Whilst I am no fan of the Tories, what other viable option would there be? I'd never vote Green Party and I would rather lose a testicle than vote for any of the right wing bigots. Like the US elections, it really is based on a 2 party system, that's what it boils down to. I wish there were stronger opposition parties, but we just don't have them.

UK vs US ebay
Pretty inexpensive compared to the door rubbers I've just bought! They were £240. I'm going to replace the full targa rubbers soon and they're £200 a side! Stuff like that is going to go obsolete within the next few years. I'd say $48 is fook all!

Looks like no one in the Conservative party wants to deal with the mess the fall out from Brexit has created. I don't blame them to be honest!

Not sure I agree Lee. Each to their own, but you're going for such a high end build that I think going for cheap looking eBay parts isn't the way to go with it. If you wanted clear or smoked lenses that look like the originals, see whether these are still available? http://www.aus300zx.com/forum/showthread.php?t=264788 More fiddly and time consuming, but you get a result that isn't an eBay looking part. Just a thought.
