  1. If it makes you feel any better, I had my timing belt on the Shortie changed after about 3.5 years of it being fitted (and 6 months of me owning the car), just for my own peace of mind. :thumbup1:
  2. All the more reason to spend £50 now, rather than hundreds later :thumbup1: Even in my short time of being a Zed-owner (2.5 years), I've seen lots of people come and go on this forum who've bought themselves their dream car and then ended up selling it not long after because the upkeep was far more than they either expected or could afford! As I said, they're not cheap to own or maintain properly, and it's far better to do things on them properly than to attempt to cut corners or put off some routine servicing just because money is tight!
  3. That's completely the wrong way to look at it. Better to spend £50 and see "no change" than to not spend £50 and then have to fork out for a new engine or lots of costly repairs. These simply aren't cheap cars to own and maintain, so £50 for peace of mind is nothing :)
  4. *sigh* As a rule of thumb (and I'm sure our many resident mechanics will vouch for this as well), the timing belt should be replaced after 55k/60k miles OR 5 years. The belt will deteriorate whether the car is used or not and, as the VG30 is an interference engine, most normal people would decide that it's far better to be safe than sorry. You're discounting the advice of people who know far more about these cars than you do, which is a foolish thing to do in my opinion. If you, with your 16 years on earth and a few months of "experience" owning a Z32, don't think it's worth replacing the belt after 5 years then don't replace it. But, as I said, please don't whinge if it lets go and takes your engine with it.
  5. Newbie, you're super-fast to dole out the advice and answers to all and sundry on here. You can only imagine how amusing it is that, when being offered sound advice by people who are infinitely more knowledgeable about these cars than you are, you're actually stating that they're wrong! You're learning about Zeds at the moment. You don't know everything about them, not by a looooooong way! So, when people with years of experience offer you some totally sound advice, why not just accept that they might have a good idea of what they're talking about...?! If your timing belt is 5 years old, then change it. If you don't want to do that and you're happy to take the risk, please don't post any bleeding-heart posts if it does let go and destroys your engine. :thumbup1: [/rantover]
  6. That won't have been cheap at all!!
  7. ^^^ Agreed. My old black LWB had no spoiler when I bought it and the back half just looked wrong! But all anyone needs to do if they do remove the 89 Spec spoiler is to buy the perspex strip for the bootlid. No unsightly holes on the back edge then :thumbup1:
  8. I'm not feeling the front bumper mountings personally....
  9. I never dared risk my camera trying to take pics of it, Rich... it's that bad...!!
  10. And you won't want to miss an opportunity to slam Kev for that beautiful steering wheel, of course... :devil2:
  11. I suspected you might say something along those lines... ;)
  12. What will I do to my Zed tomorrow...? I'll drive the bloody thing all the way to Bristol, taking Harby300 to pick up his Zed from Jimmer. And while I'm there, I'll have a solid prop fitted and get this dodgy starter motor swapped out for one that works! :thumbup1: Gonna be a nice early start - I think we're leaving Kev's about 6.30am. So I should be suitably knackered (and half-deaf) by the time I get home again
  13. I'd be happy with a track with just me on it!
  14. There's a part of me that would love to take my Shortie out on a track, just so I can "enjoy" the experience. :) But then I think of Ceejay's prang last year at Donington... my car's not even remotely set up for track work and my experience in that environment is precisely zero, so I just can't shake the feeling that something would go terribly wrong... :(
  15. These are brand new though - that's the attractive aspect :)
  16. How much would I love these!! How does that site even work??
  17. Anything to do with balaclavas and baseball bats in Yorkshire, by any chance....?
  18. Yep - both Powerzed and Automodz sell them in (presumably) any configuration you might need :)
  19. I'm paying £130 as it's secondhand, Rich. If you have a manual 'box and an NA diff, you should just need a 2+2 NA manual prop as (I believe) there's no difference in the output from the 'box between the NAs and the TTs. :thumbup1:
  20. Yep :) I'm taking Kev (Harby300) down to Jimmer's to collect his Zed... I'm also getting a solid prop off him that he bought in error so, seeing as my car and the prop will be at Powerzed at the same time, Jimmer's going to fit it for me and also swap my dodgy starter motor :D
  21. Calipers just dropped off for painting (at long last) :) There's a possibility that my Zed might be heading to Bristol this weekend as well... eeek!
  22. You mean that the Diablo actually uses Z32 headlights, but Lamborghini put a strip across the very top to obscure where it says "Nissan" on the glass... ;)
  23. As if by magic, here's the owner's gallery on this very forum: Linky! :thumbup1:
  24. Well, they're both pretty shafted...!!
  25. I was back to work first thing Sunday morning! :(
