General Fairlady ECU advice.
lol Baz, Thanks for the offer my friend, however, seems that they are quite reliable. However, if the one you had from Nissan has a more recent map or is of a "better spec" than the original early 90's ECU's I may take you up on it, depends on which vehicle I buy. +Rep to you both :D

General Fairlady ECU advice.
definately nothing there to phase me, I was going to gt a turbo servicing kit, and change the sills etc... but I think thats a bit beyond my capability, will be expensive if I go wrong. May get them rebuilt by a pro, and get new propellers etc at the same time.

General Fairlady ECU advice.
nice, thats great news. yes I can deal with changing a few wires and contacts. had a loom short out once, under the steering column, think it must of been moved when the remote start was added, and where me and the wife had been adjusting the wheel each time we drove the car, wires wore down as they were trapped in the adjustment area. almost had a full on fire. managed to fix it with some shrink wrap and solder, I think there was over 30 wires, and they had all fused together where the initial two shorted and burnt through the rest. Fun memories huh lol. I might not of ever thought of that again if you hadnt mentioned it lol.

General Fairlady ECU advice.
How reliable is the stock ECU on the 300ZX? The majority of these were built in the early 90's around the same time as the Mitsi GTO. Having had 3 GTO's two of which had ECU failiures, its something I would like to address, before it could happen again. it seems the capacitors used on the circuit board to build the GTO's ECU only had a 15 year life span, which wasnt known at the time of production. Capacitors started to leak, ECU's started to get false readings, start over compensating for things that werent happening, and caused BIG problems in the engines. I know a guy who does stock ECU rebuilds, replacing all ECU components with original OEM spec parts, it only costs around £300 and I dont mind doing it if I need too. But do I need to? If I bought a GTO (which im not), I would get ECU done on day of purchase as it is a big problem. However, I have no idea if I need to, buying the 300ZX.

Hello All!
Here are a couple of my previous projects. The FTO wasnt finished in this pic, replaced wheels, and had mesh in the front bumper when completed. The bumper was a one of a kind designed by myself in autocad and produced by my brother who is a carbon composites engineer (However he made it from fibreglass) This was my 200sx, which I fully refurbed, full original colour respray, refurbed oem alloys, new seals everywhere, and a totally rebuilt SR20DET My Earlier Jap Tuning Days, MR2. A little more naive back then (this isnt subtle at all) My ST500, which I got rid of about 2 years ago (Photo taken same spot as 200sx one lol): Why did I get a Fiesta ST500? I dont know, was supposed to be more practical, but practicality isnt so important afteral, so why not get a fairlady :D

Hello All!
I swore down, I would keep it 100% original, but this forum is putting dark thoughts in my head, with daZverts front bumper, and evoluZions interior Im being tempted to make a few changes to stock, however, mechanically, there is no need for extra power, besides, I don't want a heart attack - or a second mortgage! I think if I keep it subtle, but just "modernize" it a little. keeping the original parts too, then it should be all good :D I got a few eyed up, but not ringing round till cash is in my hand. Not going to waste peoples time. Paying for it ou of overtime, so the other lady in my life dont get jealous lol

Hello All!
Z32Bolt, is there a linky to a website for jimmer? Bristol, that is ideal. Not sure if to buy and have it sent somewhere like that immediately, before I start using it as a daily runner. I love restoring cars, have done so many in the last 12 years :s

Hello All!
Hi EvoluZion, Taken on board, prob much better, as you have natural air cooling running through at same time. Makes sense. Your 300 looks great, I LOVE the interior trim, and the blue looks so good on them too.

Hello All!
Ideal, Thanks Baz and Richard. That guide is great, especially on how to check for ECU Code errors etc... Hopefully I can make some friends here, local to some cars im going to view, so I have an experienced owners view of the vehicle too. Would never buy a used car without RAC inspection, (including compression tests)

Hello All!
Hi to my fellow 300zx fans. My name is Ryan, and im in the Southwest UK (Somerset area) Im new to the 300zx, so thought I would sign up and do some research before I part with hard earned cash. Looking forward to this interesting read. Anyway, I have NEVER owned a 300zx TT, but almost bought on a few years ago. Now Im returning to the import scene, its number one on my list this time round. Previous imports I have owned are three GTO TT's, an R33 GTS, three MR2 Tubbies, an S14 200sx and 2 FTO GPX Mivecs. However about 3 years ago, I started driving more modern European cars, like the ST500 and currently a DS3r. I want the 300zx to be my daily runner, work is 12 miles each way, so I think im going to need remote start to pre warm the engine, and definately a turbo timer, to let it cool sufficiently after. (Although I will only be pottering along to work) There is no stationary traffic on my journey ever, and once i leave my street, There isnt any speed limits other than national on my entire journey to work, which I wont exceed - thats not a joke btw, im getting old! Thought I would introduce myself, I will be looking to buy in about 4-6 weeks, and would like to then sell the DS3r, at which point I will probably get a full body original colour respray and complete engine rebuild. Again, the costs of the engine and turbo's rebuild is another thing im here to research. I dont want to modify it, just restore it to its original standard.
