Si, try putting the cabling back to how it was before. An internal extension/cabling problem can cause sync/connection problems. Give it a try to eliminate.. Steve :)

Yep - all comes back to the parents. There needs to be radical changes to the benefit system in this country to get these chav scum off the streets and into jobs. True - many of the Dell sound card jacks can be configured as mic or speaker/headphone. Take a look at the Dell utility for the sound card and you should see the option to specify this. Steve :)

Do you have a wireless ADSL router Allan? If so, post up the details and we should be able to point you in the right direction ;) The WEP key is stored in the router and may even be on a label stuck to the outside (depending on make/model/ISP) Steve :)
