  1. Thanks guyz, your advice was really appreciated. It was the MAS. Cheers Shaunmac.
  2. My 300 Z is ill. If I build up the revs in 1st, I can redline it no probs but under any boost, it holds back at 6000 rpm plus and never reaches 7000 rpm! The plugs seem fine and I'm sure it's not a weak spark issue. Has anyone else encountered this tw*tty problem? Could it be fuel delivery problems? Cheers Shaunmac.

I've taken out the pistons before today and cleaned them and the cylinder which is usually fouled near the rubber piston seal. If they're really dirty, you might need to use a very fine grade of sandpaper, say 1200 grade but don't sand them too much! It might save you having to buy new calipers anyway. You can get very seized pistons out by jamming the good ones with a suitable object and getting someone to press the brake pedal hard to push out the awkward one. The trick is to get all 4 out a good way out so when one pops out, you'll be able to pull out the remaining three as you'll no longer have any hydraulic pressure once one falls out! Good luck Shaunmac.
  4. A mate of mine has just had his gearbox back minus the linkage cover plate which I've fabricated for him, however I've tried turning the input shaft whilst putting it in various gears and I've noticed (in some gears) a clunking noise when it changes from a clockwise rotation to an anti-clockwise direction which suggests a lot of play within. The output shaft turns as it should though. Does anyone know if this noise is normal? Cheers Shaunmac.
  5. ;) Well I finally stopped it vibrating like a tw*t using a method described on a Triumph maintenance web site. I did it as follows:- 1. Jack the arse of the car in the air, remove its rear wheels to avoid vibration from tyres etc. Fire her up and put her in drive and get someone to hold it at the revs where it resonates like hell. Then climb underneath and using a sharp object, progressively move it nearer and nearer (very slowly) until it makes contact with the prop (do it near the Centre bearing end and away from any existing weights). If you push too hard, you'll draw a nice line all the way around the prop! 2. Stop the engine and inspect the prop, you should find a scratch about 3cm long on the side of the prop which has "run-out" thus causing the vibration. The weight needs to go at the opposite end of the prop to counter act the imbalance. I used a jubilee clip as the counter balance weight but I had to sandwich a small piece of steel (from the old Centre Bearing as it was the right shape!) under the jubilee clip. It's important to keep trying different weights until you get the best results though and it p**ses neighbours off as you need to do it without the zorst fitted !! Hope this helps anyone who's got the same shi*ty problem. Shaunmac.
  6. Hi everyone. I've just changed my gearbox rear mount (front part of prop & centre bearing replaced already because of vibration above 50 mph) and I've STILL got hellish vibration at only 30 mph+ . My theory is that maybe because I've only replaced half of the prop (rear section okay) that there may now be an imbalance ie. the two halves are matched to one another during manufacture. Does anyone know if this is true or not and if anyone can balance the two together as this is really doing my head in now. Many Thanks Shaunmac
  7. Hmm, not sure I would have sprayed the turbo pipes as the paint will flake off in time with all the flexing they'll get. I had an old TV & stripped it's guts out, sprayed it silver  . It looked OK actually but I should have laquered it because dust just got stuck in with the paint! The thing is, with Silver you have to put the paint on in thin coats otherwise it'll run like fook. By doing this, you end up with a very uneven surface which traps dust, so you have to laquer!
  8. Thanks everyone, I've got some extra things I can check now at least !!
  9. Hi all. I've just replaced my prop (usual knackered centre-bearing) for another known-good one. I've tried fitting it in all 4 positions (run-out remains the same) onto the rear yoke but it STILL vibrates like hell between 30 & 50 mph. Does anyone have any ideas as to what might be causing it? Many Thanks Shaunmac

Silver must be the best colour, why else would Nissan have used it in all their TV adverts?!! Subject closed:p :D
  11. Wouldn't have been so bad if it had been a Bird!
  12. If someone told me a story like that every day, I'd be a happy man. Keep up the good work!

What difference does having de-cat pipes make then? Surely the lack of back pressure is still going to be there whether you have the pipes or the gutted boxes
  14. Going back to the topic in hand, I do feel sorry for the Iraqi people as they're fed so much bull sh!t by their TV stations / Information Minister. They probably actually believe that they have a fighting chance of repelling the US/British troops but in actual fact, they're like lambs to the slaughter. Whatever the TV stations say on either side, I can well believe that 1000's of Iraqi soldiers are dead where as the numbers of US & British troops that have been killed is probably at the most a tenth that (A good proportion of those casualties are from Friendly fire too:( )
  15. I know a guy who owns a GTO & he recently told my brother that he thinks that I have the better car, i.e. the Zed is best. This guy is quite arrogant & to hear him say something like that is very rare! :D
  16. I'm not opposed to the war, I just think that there is some hypocracy. Obviously, something had to be done. > What happend 10 years ago (ie selling > arms ) was a result of those times and > the politicle agenda, it has nothing to > do with what is happening now, Hind > sight is a wonderfull thing. id prefer to > prevent it now and not have to worry > about it later. They'll do it again though, if there's enough money to be made from it. Morality goes out of the window when money is at stake and that'll never change :(
  17. I think that the world should be rid of all dictators. That would go a long way to making a peaceful world for us all to live in. The fact that most countries have sold arms to Iraq makes this war somewhat hypocritical and that really angers me. At the end of the day, everyone dances to the tune of the dollar. That's a very sad fact that will never change no matter how civilised we like to think we are! :(
  18. What's to stop you from creating your own chips? A thread on here had a link to a site that explained how to go about it. Someone's lending me an EPROM programmer! ;) so I'm gonna have a go. Just hope I don't pop my engine  Saying that, not much chance of me doing that at the mo cos my gearbox is out! Awaiting RPS clutch from Smithy.
  19. Sorry to hear that mate, it's not a nice feeling being laid off & I do sympathise. Same crap happened to me back in 1991. Local Electronics company made me redundant 1 day before I'd served 2 years so that they didn't have to pay out any redundancy, bar stewards  I'm sure you'll get sorted out with another job soon.:)

Sounds like play in the transmission. I take it it's a manual box then. Could be the prop or the diff. Saying that, it could also be a duff engine mount.
  21. red = shed :p :D
  22. Silver Zed's look wicked! I should know, I've got one & No, I am not a fudge packer!!!!
  23. What a bummer, I have two EPROM programmers, 1 is knackered & the second one I've lost the software for! I think I'll have to get another one after seeing this site!:)
  24. Sorry but personaly i think flahing and waving at people you dont know because they have the same car is a bit sad let alone the same manufacturer, just my opinion __________________ Well, if that's sad then surely being a senior member of a 300ZX internet site is too ;) :p :p :p :D If driving these cars can bring people together then that's a good thing IMHO.
  25. Sorry to hear about this. That is a sickner cos Ajay was really looking forward to getting the car back too.:( Hope they're both OK.
