Vauxhall Astravan trouble
Hi all, thanks for the responses Its a petrol 1.6. The problem did happen after the battery went low (not completely flat) after I hadnt driven it for a while, and I then left it on charge? Doesnt run rough at all, just dies no and again....

Vauxhall Astravan trouble
Can anyone give me any clues on this? My good old reliable 2001 Vaux Astravan (Envoy) played up for the first time today. When giving it some revs I let off the pedal and the engine slows down and dies. Its like the auto idle stability stopped working (if it has it?). This isnt happening all of the time but in a 5 min journey it happened twice. Turn the key and it starts and idles fine like nothing happened. Like I say, first time its happened. I checked all of the vac pipes and connections that I could see but nothing obvious. Any pointers? Thanks

Looking for some new front brake discs. My Zed has had the conversion to R33/34 discs and calipers. Has anyone used these Ebay specials? They look quite nice....

Boost Controller Recommendations
Your right there. My last car had the Profec E-01 on display. Result - Smashed window, busted trim and panel, then found the display half way up the road in the gutter, after they must has realised it wasnt a sat nav!

Water Pump Replacement
Thanks thats a great help and gives me more confidence in doing the work myself. I have checked the history that I have with the car and the GReddy timing belt was changed approx 11000miles ago. I have heard that these can go for longer than the normal belts so I think that its ok to leave it. Thanks again

Water Pump Replacement
Bugger!! How much should I be paying for a new water pump? If I was to put it in gear with the handbrake on, would that ensure that the cams would not move? Or is there a better way of locking them down? I have a GReddy timing belt which is quite new so that should be ok. May be worth changing the others though.

Water Pump Replacement
Took the Zed for its MOT today and all passed:dance:, however found a small leak from the water pump. Is this a DIY job? Is there a 'how to' guide anywhere?

How much for a changing the brake fluid?
As the title says really. I am taking the Z to my local garage tomorrow to see how much they want to change the brake fluid. What would be reasonable with fluid?

Comparison Site Win Shocker!
I just recently sent a cheque back by reply to renew my Z insurance, no question! £144 Quid cant argue with that. Not even worth spending time researching other companies. Check out the limited millage classic car policies that they do and see if it suits your circumstances. Does have limitations but sooo much cheaper. I think it needs to be over 20 years old. I am 35, car garaged over night, limited miles (cant remember how many), no points or convictions. Performance direct is who I am with, but I have had the same from other companies for my performance minis (one 1.8 vtec type r engine). They also have an agreed value so even if the book price is a few hundred quid for your pride and joy you will get what it is really worth if its nicked as they agreed it. Keep it between us....Loose lips sink ships

Slight misfire
Is there any way of testing the PTU or MAF if you dont have spares?
-
Slight misfire
Well I have spent the whole morning leaning into the negine bay, disconnecting any electrical plug I could find and cleaning them up. Some had the green gunk in but not anymore! Problem is the rough running is still happening. Could the PTU be failing?

Slight misfire
Thanks I will start checking connections. Probably not a coincidence that this has happened at the same time the damp weather came along!

Slight misfire
Its now developed into rough running at idle! Still revs ok but not smooth. Does anyone have an idea of what to look for first!

Slight misfire
Hi guys, Hopefully someone can shed some light on this. Driving along the motorway last week and everything is running nice, then while in 5th gear and relatively slow speed (50ish) I start accelerating and hear a slight pop and a little miss! It only happen once and then everything goes back to nice. It then happened again this week. Exactly the same situation, only at slow speed in top gear and trying to accelerate, then back to normal. I should probably have changed down, but it has never happened before and doesnt happen in any other gears  I have checked obvious things like leads connected etc. Could a sensor of some sort be on its way out? Ben
