Lower insurance costs for the lads....
I agree Janus, I was stating (and I should have made my point a bit clearer than I did). My dad and my brother died of two completly different types of cancer, I realise also coming from a medical background that some cancers have genetic tendencies, but for me to pay more on life insurance when in my case it was two completly differing cancers that killed my brother and my dad is wrong, and is wrong for anyone in the same situation. As you have rightly said, only certain types of cancer have been linked with genetics, not all of them have, a lot are random, or stem from the workplace, before my brother died of skin cancer, we had no-one in the family that had ever had skin cancer. But also, if a family has never had a case of cancer in their relatives, doesn't mean that someone from that family will not get cancer does it? If you are going to get it, you are going to get it. I think it's great that it's all put down to genetics though, when Chernobyl went up, the radio active fall out reached here, don't see anyone standing up and saying that it's because of this, or all the other cr*p released into the atmosphere that has caused the upward trend in cancers of various different types. A person with let's take your example of breast or ovarian cancer in their family history, this does not mean that they won't develope a different type of cancer, or that they will without a doubt contract either breast or ovarian cancer, surley if that were the case then a lot more could be done to prevent it than what is being done at the moment with screening. I realise that there are lots of women now having mastectomy's to avoid the trauma that they may go through with their increased chances of contracting breast cancer, and it is great to see advances edging ever nearer to a cure. An awful lot of cancers are also proven to stem from the work environment, asbestosis and the cancers caused by this, rubber and the cancers caused by this. Anyone suffering from these types are not going to have passed it on genetically. These types of cancers are random, they are not genetical. It does not always follow that I am at any more risk of certain types of cancer than anyone else because we were unlucky enough to have two people in our family die of two such different types of cancer, there has never been any heart conditions in our family, but this does not mean that I won't die of a heart attack.

Lower insurance costs for the lads....
Don't agree....You are generalising. How can a 17 year old have 20 years driving experience? It is unfair to tar everybody with the same brush, I have said this before, and I will say it again, young or new drivers, male or female should be given a chance to prove themselves. This is quite simple to do, give a young or inexperienced driver a reasonable insurance quote, not the thousands of pounds they ask for at the moment, if they then have no accidents give them better quotes on renewal. If however the young or inexperienced driver has an accident and is to blame for that accident, then throw their insurance premiums up. I agree that someone with 20years, or even 10years NCB should pay less than someone who hasn't had this experience, but how does one get to 10 or 20years NCB when one cannot afford to pay for the silly amounts quoted to our youngsters? The whole system is archaic now, and needs a complete revamp to make it a little fairer imho, it is no wonder so many are driving uninsured given the extortionate amounts quoted, I do not, nor ever will condone driving without insurance, but let's face it, most of the accidents involving young people are accidents caused by uninsured unlicensed youngsters who don't give a fig about anyone or anything, and whom have stolen the car in the first place, and it is wrong to see all youngsters in this light. May I also add that it is wrong to throw up pensioners insurance at a certain age also.

Lower insurance costs for the lads....
One cannot say that because a family member has had cancer that the next person in the family will get it, it doesn't work like that, if that were the case, then it is a proven fact that women have fewer road accidents than men, so therefore their insurance should be cheaper. Cancer affects 1 in 3 people, and it's random, my mum is 78 and still healthy, My brother was a twin with my sister, and my sister is healthy. so why don't the life insurance companies take their assumption from my mum or sister? Because they like to make money from peoples misery that's why, money grabbing barstewards, they try and wriggle out of any claim anyway. These are assumptions not fact, therefore whatever insurance applied for, motor, life etc, it should not matter if one is male or female, or weather one person in the family has had a certain medical condition, because it doesn't mean to say that the next person will go through the same thing, the medical profession CANNOT prove that I will contract cancer, can you? just as an insurance company cannot now say that a woman is less likely to have a road accident. In 28 years of driving, I have never had a car accident where I was at fault, all two of them, and one of them was an ambulance....lol, but this does not change the fact that it is proven that women are less likely to have a road accident. No insurance should be based on family history, if that were the case, anyone with an epileptic in the family should not be allowed to drive, just in case they have a fit whilst behind the wheel, this is a generalisation, and should not, and would not be used in pricing motor insurance, therefore life insurance should not be priced in this manner. It's like saying that if one person living in a house has had lots of road accidents, that his sister or brother is going to have lots of road accidents, this simply is not the case, and any insurance company stating this would be in trouble, so why are life cover insurance companies allowed to work out their premiums on this basis? :censored::censored:

Lower insurance costs for the lads....
Yep, they will throw the costs up for the women rather than bring down the costs for the men, win win situation for the insurance companies, well done EU. Talking of this subject, when my brother and dad died from cancer, not in the same place in the body, or even the same form of it, my life insurance went up because they say my risk of getting cancer is higher, this must be wrong as well if we listen to what the EU are saying, why should I pay more based on an assumption? There they go with the assumptions again. In my opinion everyone has the same risk, just as much as anyone is going to be in a car accident. You can be the best driver in the world, but you are at the same risk of accident as any of us........:cursing::cursing::cursing:

God damn old bill
Correct mate, there is actually no such thing as a fast lane, it drives me bonkers listening to someone spout about fast lanes, all lanes allow everyone to travel at the permitted speed limit!!!! I have to admitt though, it helps when your grandfather was a chief inspector in the police force...... please don't have a go at me for this, he retired in 1961, 3 years before I was born!!!! Upon asking him later in life why he retired when he did, his answer to me was this.... "see this photograph, that's me taking delivery of one of the first police cars in Lancashire". Now this shocked me because I didn't know that my grandfather could drive, he never owned a car, and as far as I was concerned, he never had a license, he walked everywhere. He went on to say that the police force would go down hill once officers just drive around in cars, technically you lost your beat bobby that everyone knew. I can remember walking into town with my grandfather in Blackburn, and a 20 minute/half an hour walk took around an hour and a half, because everyone knew him, and stopped him for a chat, and he was a chief inspector, how many on here can name their local bobby, yet alone the chief inspector? The day of my grandads' funeral, everyone was out on their doorsteps paying their last respects to a true gentleman and very fair copper........ By the way, he was also a major in the army during the war, he was on Montgomery's staff, and I have letters here actually singed by Monty himself.....lol....:wheelchair:
