The Zed Is Dead
dgsignmakers, I have done both (engine removal & bigends with engine in the car), the main thing is only you know how long you have been driving the car with the big ends rumbling, if they have been on there way out for some time then don't do it in the car because you will have to take the crank out and get it reground, that's easier with the lump out ? But taking the engine out ain't that bad its just fiddly for the first time, but when the engine is out there are loads of things you can do that don't cost a penny just your time, plenum water bypass, egr removal, aircon removal, the list goes on....plus lots of cleaning. pm me if you want more info

At last, I'm now the proud owner of ....
Welcome to the mad house Dave, yes they are a great car and will give you lots of fun (and looks of course). But remember its a high precision sports car that requires lots of careful maintenance, do regular oil changes with good quality oil, keep the water system clean and topped up with the right antifreeze, and not forgetting the gearbox, check the oil level with the engine hot and running, top up as necessary. Depends what you want the car for will depend on what type of mods (i call some of them essential mods) you will NEED to do, but what ever your thinking of doing there are plenty of great guys/gals on this forum to advise and help.

Cleaning inside of plenum
And when you put it back together do away with the pcv valves and do a oil catch tank upgrade to stop all the oil/crap going back into the plenum and throttle bodies again.
