  1. have you checked the starter motor is tight it only has to drop a couple of mill and it will do this ...dissconect the battery +ve terminal not earth ...get the car on axle stands...dont forget when jacking it up use the correct points or the front wings can come away from the seam at the bottom edge ....sometimes the bolts ( two of them ) come loose and the SM drops a little locking it into the ring gear in a bad position , its only a twenty minute job to replace one twenty seconds to tighten one up .. good luck mate steve
  2. det sounds like ...how to describe it ....imagine a tiny cornish pixy playing a tiny triangle in a tin box next to your ear ..........its known in old school as pinking and happens on old cars when the ignition is too far advanced , once heard you will never forget or mistake it for anything else ...how are you liking the zed?? dont know if you remeber me i was in the red zed with my youngest son on the convoy we got there by ourselves as the others dived in for a coffee on the motorway steve
  3. smithy is selling a full set for 20 quid i think with anodised red coil pack retainer brackets check the items for sale section hth steve
  4. super glue pieces off a an old razor blade head ...........(.the triple blades come out really easy ...........) to the inside out of sight edge of the dust cap ..you know its there so it wont bite you but the theiving little pricks with a bit of luck might end up with tetanus :))))
  5. they are plain alloy metal silver then laquered as origional , if they look white its because the alloy has corroded and powdered ...a good wire brushing then some clear laquer will do the job nicely ....

  10. with a silver base coat your half way there to a candy of your choice , most candys lie on a silver base coat if i remeber correctly ........always liked seaspray blue myslef but end of the day its your car , do it as YOU want .....that way you will never regret it steve
  11. it was absolutley heart breaking ..luckily i have kirbz for morale support strange thing is the rev counter still jumps to 800rpm when i turn the key before starting it up .....runs fine though so i think i will leave well alone for a couple of days until my stomache can cope with the ulcers this car gives me :)
  12. Hi Sy the colour your after was used on some racing fiat abarths its called signal orange ........hope it helps steve
  13. leg nose its most probably an RTD try bridging the connector with a100ohm resistor it should read 0 that will tell you the wiring is ok ..go to each end with the resistor and se if you get a reading ...my guess is a open circuit in the wiring ..could be a bad corroded connection clean them all up and see what happens especially at the sensor end HTH Steve from memory the coloured rings on the resistor should brown black black from left to right ..
  14. For those of you who may encounter a similar problem ............took the dash apart again and double checked my install of the fuel gauge .no probs there ..or should there be as i am in inst engineer by trade !! ..checked the harness to the dash pod all ok no loose no misalignments .....checked the Indiglo dial feeds all seemed ok ....ok we are now at Devcon 2 ..my head is nipping ..what have i done .....noticed that the speedo had been sitting on its end stop must have been when i installed first time round and because it is a free fall mechanism it just ran to top scale 180 MPH this must have confused the buggery out of the ECU ...dissconected the battery +ve post and let it sit for 30 minutes ...............re connected after re zeroing the speedo and bobs you uncle freds your aunt .....VROOOOOM VROOOOOOOM with a bit of underdrive pulley squeel thrown in for good measure ................happy chap now hope this helps somebody in the future Steve
  15. bl**dy hell thought to myself , nice day today ill fit that new fuel gauge ... took dash apart . dont many times before ...removed fuel gauge re fitted new one ..its only 3 screws .....put it back together checked it looked ok fitted in the car and now ................rev counter shows 800 revs without engine running , try to start her up big .clunk sound and nothing except my alarm going off ............what the F**k have i done ???? any ideas guys . the cars abondoned halfway up my drive took the gauge pod back off and cant see anything wrong at all ...........im stumped :(
  16. i removed the cats and put a central balance box in to stop the boooming on the motorway ...or lessen it ..no probs with the tubbies yet it was over a year ago cats are way more restrictive than a silenced box so you will gain , the response difference and spool up is very very noticeable .........the LACK of backpressure is what causes the tubbie seal to fail isnt it .........anyway Kirbz and his wizzard mechanic Dad are fitting some big bad boys and injectors , and internals for me in september so if they go now WTF :)
  17. im watching it over here in kazakhstan 8pm local time stil at my desk until 7pm 30 mins drive to town from the plant ..40 pished up expats watching the match should be great ......come on the lads
  18. i made that mistake ..........they are ok fine stopping pads with little fade but they squeeeeeeeeeel like a stuck pig ........going back to my porterfields
  19. same problem with wifes maxima ..battery not enough power to get the thing started from cold .....but engine hot no bother !! .invest in a heavy duty battery ...borrow one if you can and it will prove or disprove that option .....good luck mate Steve
  20. possibly the rattling noise was mistaken as a mechanical rattle it was probably an electrical short to earth popping ...check the negative lead and positive lead of your battery hasnt worn away the insulation and shorted out on the positive side and the terminals and connections to the block and chassis are tight on the negative side , check the cable connections to your starter motor and alternator are tight also hope it helps fella Steve
  21. a rattling sound . ok does the car want to start ? ie turn over on the key ?? is it just dead . no power for headlights with engine off and key in ?? if that starter motor had stuck in you would probably hear it grinding ....a nieghbour of mine had a nova GSi maybe same engine i dont know , his did very similar stank of electrical burning , cut out on him couldnt start it etc ....it was the voltage regulator that had shorted out ..cost about 40 quid to replace with GM part steve
  22. absolutely agree Royal it is an automotive abortion in my eyes but each to his own im quite fond of my yamaha Fs1E ....not as far as the todger up the tail pipe fond but ....its like a realy fat bird ......great fun to ride but you wouldnt tell anybody you did :)))
  23. to be honest for 300 quid .......what do you guys expect ....it is, like our zeds, somebodys pride and joy !...im sure our zeds are cause for massive derrision and humour among ferrari owners clubs or lambo owners clubs .......you are in danger of all becoming automotive snobs ...not what this forum is about is it ?? ....sure i dont personaly like it also but then again i dont like audi TTs either. ..just my opinion
  24. depends if your going to be driving much at night ..personally i stay home and watch TV .....for the odd occasion i do drive when its dark then normal headlights are fine with uprated lamps ....HID is a lot of money for the pose factor .......in my opinion a good mod but far too expensive for the use you would get out of it ....if you are going to get some then chris at Getgreddy on here does them , so do z-center i think steve
  25. nice spec ....530bhp is FAR too much for the road ...........is it a track day tool or daily driver ?? ........it would in my opinion look much better as street sleeper like Kirbzs nice and standard ..ish looking no big spoilers or go faster stick on bits ,but with enough clout to embarass anything on the road .......oh and change the radiator :)))
