Coolant tank relocation. Has anyone done it?
No I have a nice Nismo item that we are fitting. I think its actually an oil catch tank but it is about the size n shape we need. And its translucent lastic so we can keep any eye on it at the track. Ill post a pic up ...

And more steady progress.... The "half tank" is now fitted. (apart from one bolt on the new heatshield. The subframe is back in place. Paul is checking torque on EVERY nut and bolt. Once again we were slowed/hampered by a stripped thread/bolt on the anti roll bar. Hole enlarged. Retapped. larger bolt fitted... job done. I have a "almost gone" thread/bolt on my car so we will need to repeat the exercise on mine in the New Year. Drivers side window has been re assembled and awaiting re- fitting with some new longer set screws which arrived today. My fabricator Tig welded the quick release boss on to the steering column. Next job is to fit the new solid coupler to the column as the Nissan rubber item is well gone!! Thanks to Manta V8 at Bodymech for supplying this lovely light weight alloy item. It should help sharpen up the steering response.

Coolant tank relocation. Has anyone done it?
We are putting a small tank where the battery used to be. Thats not an option for most road car users tho as we have the battery in the car...(Bobgenies track car) It will be easy to check on race/track day.

Bobgenie's Slicktop. 2014 Makeover.
Well here you go... A full day from paul n me saw the back subframe dropped out again and a trial fit of the new Half tank. All looked good so we cut an extra mounting bracket and re made the heatshield My fabricator has welded the bracket in place today so we are ready for tank install this week. as already said a lot of this winters work is about improving build quality. The Lexan windows and sliders were OK but suffered from two problems. The screws holding the sliders were only tapped in to the perspex so as the season wore on some pulled out . We didnt notice it till Brands round when the wholw windows were flapping alarmingly. We have replaced all the srews with longer ones with nylocs on the end now. We have also added a cental stiffner made from box section ally and bent to shape. Its not a particularly elegant install but it does look like the windows wont flap out again. I will probably paint them white so they dont stand out so much. It probably doesnt seem a lot of progress for a full day but thinking time and fabricating ad hoc solutions is never quick. Most of you doing hobby stuff on your own cars dont factor time in to the result. We need to with Bobs car. As the work follows Einsteins rule of time and money. Time = money. x MC squared!!! If you blow the pic up to mega size you might spot the last few Tek screws holding in the bias adjuster and brake line...... They wont be staying.... bye bye Tek screws.:scared: .... Hello rivnuts and stainless set screws!!:thumbup1:

Thanks for the reminder James!!! The car is now safely back in my garage. Thanks to Danny my daughters partner and Manta V8 for helping with the task. Getting dead 300s up my drive is a scary process A big thanks from me to Bodymech for putting up with me calling in and "interfering" with the work!! Work starts here in earnest tomorrow . Paul n me are determined to drive up the quality and therefore the reliability of the project. Most of the dreaded Tek screws have already been removed and binned. Darren has done his bit too on Tek screw removal In the meantime I G3d the rear lights and popped them back in place. So thats the only pic ATM. If you are not a Twinz bumper fan then now is the time to leave the room......................:whistling:

Painted calipers
dipping will ruin at least the dust seals and maybe the piston seals. You cant powder coat them without taking them to bits and removing the seals. Wire wheels wont get in the corners. blasting is the best way . IMO.

Are seatbelts in right place
Year of registration and year/model arent always the same thing. And then the UK DVLA has dozens of 300s with wrong data on the log book.
-
Are seatbelts in right place
seatbelts moved to the pillar in 1992 on the ser 2 car.

Lights, new Lexan and other bits are all waiting to be fitted Paul will be getting underneath and dropping the subframe....again so he can fit the "1/2 tank!!! He is also doing a full nut n bolt check/torque/paint on the suspension as he had already found a couple of loose bolts in the diff carrier.

Looking at a Metro!!!
in its career it has done a couple of hundred rallies. The current owner has had the car about 10 years. A google search will bring up pictures etc. Just a couple of weeks ago it did a demo run and was on display during the Rally GB Wales.

Looking at a Metro!!!
Indeed!! And an original factory built one too.:thumbup1: Quite well known in the rallying world. I was just blown away !! It is absolutley georgeous and mad . It does need a few tiny bits doing to make it pristine but it just exudes quality all round.

FYI there are rooms at Travelodge Swindon for £27 and Travelodge Devizes at £30. have just booked for Devizes as a mate lives close by for a Frid nite drink. The Swindon travelodge is OK too although you park over the road in a multistorey car park. The dismal M4 Travelodge locations at Leigh Delamere services are charging £73 and £66 for the priveledge of being stuck in a Motorway service are all night!!
