What a summer!!
I called in at Billing this morning on the way to Grafham water meet. All meadows were bone dry over 95% of their area. Lots of ordinary people camping and caravanning there as usual. A few guys from the Suzuki club and another small club had camped over without any problems. It was dry all day today at Grafham just down the road from Billing until after we left at 3.30PM. So to answer your question Steve I personally was sorry we didnt go ahead with the meet at Billing cos it would have all been OK. And there is nothing in the rule book on weather to say that whatever other weekend we choose wont be a lot worse than this one.

D.I.Y wheel referb
Well thank you Carl for the kind words. I have of course been messing about for around a decade on jobs like this so for me its no big deal. I have a compressor, spray guns and materials always. Likewise mops. polishes etc are all to hand. Once you have mastered the techniques its fairly simple but still tedious and ally polishing is a filthy job. Here is a pic of one of the old school slotmags I have just finished on the 240Z Im currently rebuilding.

Uprated gearbox.
If you are serious about this then I believe the OS Giken gear kit is a way forward. Better ratios and stronger gears and synchro. RB Motorsport are agents and can probably advise. EVERY bearing will need replacing too. And almost as important is finding the correct gearbox builder to do the job.

D.I.Y wheel referb
Im halfway through a re furb on my 3 piece Jap split rims. Front two were kerbed to death and all 4 had bad laquer/corrosion. Front two are done, back 2 are on the way. I have also changed the centre colour as the gold wouldnt fit in with my colour scheme. I just hand filed out the worst of the gouges then moved on to flap wheels and then fibral satinising mops. then moved on to stitched cotton mop with fast cut bar, followed by a stitched cotton mop with med polish and finished with fine bar polish on a non stitched cotton mop. then the rims were THOROUGHLY degreased with Max Meyer degreaser. Washed and dried before finishing with 2 Pack Acrylic High Solids laquer. You are looking at around £40 for mops and polish and another £20 minimum for laquer. Obviously you already need a good quality power drill that will run continous for hours with the mops and a compressor and spray gun(touch up size) to apply the laquer. Plus a twin filter charcoal mask as 2K is toxic. Then add time and cost of tyre strip and refit and balance etc on top. I got lucky on this job and was able to keep the rims together and only remove the centres for repainting. they went through their own process.... like this..... soak in the parts washer overnight and remove worst of crap. flat down to remove scrapes and any paint blisters. First in 400 then 800 grit. Back in parts washer. Then into hot soapy water and finally with Max Meyer degreaser. Prime in (toxic) 2K primer. allow to go off overnight. flat with 800 and apply basecoat. Leave a couple of hours to flash off and settle. check for nice even matt finish with no runs and go straight on with a double header coat of 2K laquer. You can then add more laquer according to taste!!! Oh I just forgot to mention the 160 little bolts to be undone and redone. They just got dipped in acid rust etch for an hour to clean them up. Phew !! Nearly done. Leave a few days and then apply some high quality wax polish. Not that silly stuff in bottles but something like Blitz one grand wheel wax. Just one job left. take final photo. Enjoy

PK1's old zed on ebay
Looks like the current owner has spent a lot on it. Admittedly not all wisely. But at £3K all it needs is that spoiler removing and the stripes painting out and you will have a nice little slicktop TT Manwell for well below £4K wonder if he fancies a cheap black 2+2 NA in px????

what do i do next
Thats not a bad guide Carl, but I would normally spray basecoat metallic. DONT Touch with anything. then 2 hours later get it laquered. Then flat with 1200 and finally a couple of days later when its all settled down mop it with G3.

Billing isnt shut
Well here is what I said a couple of weeks ago.... since then I havent seen anything to alter those facts

Billing isnt shut
Nottingham for a National meet will suit me nicely. Point conceded. check out my location ;) . lets hope all the southern brigade will make the trip.. In fact if we are talking Notts for a location then what about adopting Thoresby show as our main event in Aug. Its already organized all we need to do is turn up????
-
Billing isnt shut
Well there are two points to be made here IMO. Firstly.... are 300ZX Club only going to have an event when Z Club decide to have one. What happened to 300ZX.co Uk National events???? Secondly the proposed new date and venue is not at Billing but in NORTH NOTTS.I believe. Hardly the most central of locations!!! :nono: And while I appreciate the prompt replies from our very active Membership secretary it would also be good to have some input from our own NEO on possible alternative dates and locations???

Billing alternatives
Sarah, some of us know you are from an area that was badly hit and we all feel sorry for those affected. However the point being made in this thread is that maybe the decision to cancel was flawed or at the very least premature. It appears that the decision was made by a few people on the Zclub committee. The site owners of Billing DID NOT CANCEL the event. I have just enquired this morning to the office at Billing to ask if I could come and camp this weekend and was told it would be OK but busy due to car club events!!. LOL  so maybe we could have a " Bootleg Billing" event ourselves???????? on Sunday??

injector plugs
NO! They dont simply pull off! You have to prise out the metal retaining clip/spring first. Bit of a PITA to get to.
