  1. Coming out of the hole in the ECU housing was a wire with a switch on the end?? I pulled it all apart and found the aftermarket chip that had been wired in by either Apache or whoever he bought it off, (I didn't even consider that it would have been installed within the ecu..) and this switch was wired in on three of the terminals, but I have no idea what its likely to be used for.. What is this? could it be for turning off the chip? or switching between two modes maybe? or could it even be used for turning on mode 2 on the ecu without having to pull up all the boards and carpet, and just look at the engine light for the code....? cheers Sky
  2. I've had a fiddle today, I located the immobiliser brain so I could start tracing them through to find out whats immobilised, luckily it was just next to the ecu, but while I was there I decided to run a self check just to see if it could tell me which part of the system wasnt working to finetune my search... 55... no problems.... surely if something was immobilised and preventing one of the systems from working it would show up on a self check?? to get a better look at my immobiliser wiring I took off my ecu and put it to one side, in doing so I had to remove a couple of earthing points... (i've also noticed a rogue wire, but i'll post this in a new thread) I saw a fuse box connected to my alarm, when I got to it from following through my wiring I checked them all, which spurred me into checking all fuses relevent to my sittuation, I took them out cleaned each one up individually.. no problems to be seen. I throughout I was just constantly wondering why it hadn't come up on the ecu.. surely it must? I dont know what made me do it but I bolted everything back in place and put the terminals on my battery on extra secure, put the key in and although it took a little longer than usual, she fired up.. I dont know what I've done, but she seems to be working perfectly?? Is it possible that I stalled it at the roundabout and in turn caused some sort of confusion in the engine management? such as within the flow sensor or something?? I dont really know.. all I know is that she seems perfectly healthy... Cheers Sky
  3. There has been a bit of an update since yesterday evening, I've charged up the battery as it had pretty much died from the attempted restarts, Im now confident that the fact that the battery had gone lower than 12V, was causing the screwing around with the alarm last night. So as an update to you, the alarm turns off when using the fob, the starter turns over and the fuel pump turns on too, but still no combustion :( The engine failure light is stilll illuminated, which is what would happen if the immobiliser timed out when the car was working normally, so im not sure if the immobiliser is still activated or not, or whether its something totally independant of that causing the issue. I need to find the 'Brain' of my immobiliser so I can have a go at disconnecting it to find out once and for all, but I dont know where to look really, they're installed randomly as far as im aware. Cheers Alex
  4. I'm not entirely sure what you mean by PTU, sorry My alarm and immobiliser is a Laserline 996V3 and I am debating removal to see whether it is the immobiliser or not.. has anyone else had issues with their immobilisers? it is 7 years old now according to paperwork.. its possible connections have just got old and stuff.. i just think its too much of a coinsidence to have just happened... Cheers.. Sky
  5. Thanks guys so far, I've had a bit of a hectic evening... I was just leaving a junction tonight, and suddenly the car cut out and the alarm went off, I tried to restart it but I think the immobiliser has cut in as nothing works anymore, I called up the AA and he couldnt work out why the engine wouldnt start, we reset the immobiliser on several occasions but most of the time it continued to stop anything from working, and on the times when it didn't immobilise it, the starter motor ran but nothing would fire up... eventually my battery pretty much died and i've been left with not much to go by... Can anyone think of any reason why this has happened, perhaps anything I could have possibly touched or disturbed when having the clean up earlier? anythng at all that could have caused it? Before it cut out the car ran fine for 3-4 miles. I just dont understand what I could have possibly touched, the only wires I've even come close to touching were the ones in the photos above. The rest was just cleaning up surfaces? I hope someone can help me, and that I get this resolved soon... I need the car for work on monday, and I've got a driving holiday around the UK from wednesday... :( blooming typical... I appreciate anything anyone can input.. this is going to be a long weekend... Cheers Sky
  6. Hi there, I was giving my engine bay a bit of a clean this afternoon, to make it easier to see exactly where rust is coming through and just to make things look a little cleaner, I noticed a couple of issues one is the wiring going to a sensor I think, water temperature maybe? I'm not sure what I need to get to fix this, is it possible to get just the connector which I can re-wire? The second issue I noticed was a plug found by the fuel lines running across the top of the engine, the moulding it has to keep it held onto it's bracket is broken so its all floppy and I just want to replace it really. Can anyone help me find these parts? or tell me where to look? So far all I've done is wrap both issues up with electrical tape, but thats only a temporary fix. Cheers Sky
  7. wow, good job! I really like them, may have to put them on my 'want' list :D Cheers Sky
  8. There are braided fuel lines running across my headers.. doesnt look like a repair though, more of a replacement?? still could be an issue i guess? I'll take a look at getting some new/cleaning up sensors in the near future. Any reccomendationson plugs and leads? Cheers Sky
  9. Hey phil, same again from me! Happy Birthday!
  10. Hi all, just noticing little things the more I drive my Z, When I hit the loud pedal with moderate force I get a distinct smell of either burning oil or half burnt petrol, im not really sure which.. but my main issue, is, why can I smell it?? where would likely gaps be from engine bay or exhaust? is it possible its coming through the air inlets? and on top of that, whats the best thing to do to fix the issue in the first place? is it possibly a sticky injector or something so its running richer than it should? i've given it a bit of a rev with the bonnet up and cant seem to smell it then... which makes me think exhaust..?? I really dont know.. anybody elses Z smell of petrol? Also while im at it, injector cleaner? any reccomendations? Was also thinking plugs and leads maybe too, any reccomendations on those either? Cheers Sky
  11. Hey, thanks very much! I'll have a good old read then, I do need to do some geeking up on the engine. I'll let you know how I get on. Cheers Sky
  12. right so as an initial check.. throttle bodies should be lubricated, and sensors checked, where are these sensors you've been talking about (im really not familiar with the engine yet), and how should I proceed once i've found them.. removal and a clean up? Cheers Sky
  13. My lude origionally :D My lude now... (not such a happy face) Cheers Sky
  14. That would be an accurate description! If its because of the viscus requiring more revs to give adequate cooling, I can accept that and just let it do its thing from now on, but I'm just not sure at the moment if thats fact, im still very new to the Z and dont know it's quirks and processes. Cheers Sky
  15. Hey all, just wondering possible causes for an irregular idle could be..? Most of the time it idles fine, but sometimes its at around 2k.. this isnt just when its cold either, I was in traffic, at some points the idle is 2k 2 minutes later its normal..? Is this anything due to the fact it has a viscus fan and the engine was hot? (never had a viscus before) I did have some issues a few days ago regarding some bucking and juddering when driving normally, but these stopped during the same journey, I have since cleaned the airfilter too, but in an attempt to take it off sheared one of the 4 bolts (the fixings are all horribly rusty in there), so its possible its recieving a little more air than usual... possibly.... What does everyone think? Cheers Sky
  16. Hey sorry its been a couple of days, Im not sure how long you'd be interested for, once you hear the issues she has bodywork wise, but mechanically she's in pretty impressive condition, no odd noises or vibrations, is good on oil, I'd be really happy to get £500 for her. I know this is being posted in the wrong area, but it just follows on nicely, sorry! Its a 1995 2.0i, so not the yummy 2.2 :pinch: I went into the back of a BMW at a roundabout last october, so has a mismatching bumper and a dented bonnet, there is a bit of rust developing on the passenger side too Its done 123K miles, runs out of tax on the first of august, though I did declare it as SORN yesterday, the MOT runs out January next year I could put a picture up if you like when im home from work, a before and after shot perhaps so you can see her in her prime... Cheers Sky
  17. 21 92 SWB N/A and a 95 Honda Prelude 4th Gen but have pretty much moved over to only using the ZX now Honda is for sale now, but not sure if there would be any point putting it up here I might do.. Cheers Sky
  18. I wasnt putting much force into my fumblings... as I say, it seems fine now, i'm going to go home early and see if it all starts ok this journey I hope so! Cheers Sky
  19. Yeah i've got one of those, still no success... :mad2: I've gotten into work this morning with no bolt-exploding-through-the-enginebay situations, however it did seem very tempremental this morning.. burbling and idling all over the place.. driving along seemed to have the same situation, causing the car to buck and judder, but then it just stopped?? Could it possibly been a bit of water combined with ally oxide solution getting somewhere electrical? and then drying out with the heat? it seems perfectly fine now...? And I'll check all my fluids and stuff, your right, it is possible that I could have a lacking of PS fluid or something like that. Cheers Sky
  20. Hey, I was just having a fiddle under the engine bay, having an attempt cleaning up some of the oxidisation on the alluminium intake manifolds on the top. I unbolted some of the fuel line holders to gain a little more access to the surfaces... and bloody dropped one of the bolts down the gap between one of the manifold bits... and cant bloody find it.. Is this a major issue? is there any moving parts or possibility of causing devistating-engine-destroying-issues? I need to go to work tomorrow, but im not sure whether I can use the car?? Gutted... Cheers Sky
  21. Hi all, I bought my Z from Maz on saturday, the ride is really good and I've really enjoyed everything about it so far! The steering has always been quite hard, myself and Maz thought it was because of the undersized steering wheel, however as I was driving home last night it was as if the powersteering had suddenly been turned on, or become more powerful, the steering has now become very light... Maz was saying about how his one was becoming very heavy and was due to a sensor within the gearbox, which will stiffen up the steering at higher speeds. Is it possibly this sensor which could have caused the sudden change in lightness of steering? Cheers guys Sky
  22. Smokey Green for me... thats a bit pathetic... maybe I should be the pornstar with no name.... be a stig of the sexy films industry...
  23. ginger cowboy night, need i say more? it was the only one i had on short notice, im sure a better one will turn up sooner or later!
