  1. So i just took my Z out for a test run, it feels much more responsive and doesnt smell of petrol as much, which is great! so the overfueling could be sorted/better than it was! However, due to having no idle switch output the idle is wandering and when I first push the throttle the revs drop by 200-400 revs before it catches itself again this often almost causes the engine to stall, which sucks. Has anyone taken theyre TPS apart? Cheers Sky
  2. Hey - not a problem as I said, I'm around for another 4 weeks anyway. I look forward to seeing you soon. Any ideas / photos to help with the lack of idle switch? anyone? cheers! Alex
  3. I fiddled with the TPS today, I went by a manual/investigation on hesitation to make sure I had the right voltages for it - TPS is to have an input of 5V and a variable output of 0.45-4V and then an earth too Mine was set at o.23V which is probably confusing everything, I've now set it up to 0.451V and it rotates all the way to 4V however it seems that my full throttle is a little higher than that and a 'no load' appears on my multi meter..? But fine its set up properly now, I also looked at the Idle connector on it too, the manual says a 12V input and when throttle is closed a 9-10V output, when you push the throttle it should then disconnect and show 0V I measure mine and I do have a 12V input, but my output is only 0V nomatter where the throttle is, I think the connection may be broken within the TPS. Does anyone have any photographs of the internals of a Z32 TPS? I found a video of a Z31 TPS at this link, about half way through it shows it in action. http://www.youtube.com/user/LastHumansGarage#p/u/13/LmgYPuJkUuY And from this I can see, if the internals are out of shape, that the idle will be disconnected all the time. but as I say, this is a Z31 TPS, it looks rather similar to the Z32, but its missing the second set of wires. Has anyone ripped one of these apart and got photos? Cheers Sky
  4. Yeah, meeting with Sussex Stu today, I'm also sticking my airfilter back on after cleaning it yesterday, also going to poke around with voltages on sensors, first off is to set up the TPS properly, once i've got the voltage right, I've got a gut feeling from a comment made in a post somewhere, that I have to reset or pull out the plug of the TPS or something so the ecu detects the new voltage... can anyone confirm this? Cheers! Sky
  5. well, Sussex Stu has been trying for tomorrow, by the sounds of things not many people are available? But I'm not doing anything tomorrow, and would be well up for meeting anyone really Cheers Sky
  6. Hey, sorry it's been a couple of days, saturday sounds great to me! I'm not up to anything! wheres a good place to meet? Cheers Sky
  7. oh and thats a hell of a lot of bits to get in a Z! crazy, but fair enough! Cheers Alex
  8. Wicked that sounds fantastic, well, im down as of now, and will be until the beginning of november. Where would be a good place to meet, portsdown hill i've been told in the past is a nice place to meet up, but I'm not etirely sure how to get there, i can see it from my window though, so it shouldnt be too hard! I'm quite excited about meeting some of you guys, It'll be my first ZX meet too! Cheers! Sky
  9. mines an SWB, so its not got the benefit of the back seats... but it does mean i have a slightly bigger boot i think? but we'll see! Ok, well thats not too far away, If im having a slow weekend could well be up for a southern meet if they exist? Cheers Sky
  10. Well, my work takes me down to Portsmouth for the next 6 weeks, however, getting all my stuff down there in 1 trip is going to prove prove problematic! I always forget how much stuff I have!! I need tools, 2 weeks worth of clothing, toiletries, bedding and all that, but i also REALLY want to take my playstation and 40" tv.. which i've measured and it will fit in the back! :D im just in the process of washing everything and then by tonight i'll know if my crazy wish will come true or not... also while im on the subject of portsmouth, Anyone from around there on here? it'll be nice to see some fellow owners whilst im down there! Cheers! Sky
  11. Hi thanks for the comments, im well aware that driving with it stinking of fuel is a little dangerous, it will get sorted asap! Jeff, the latter of the two issues make more sense to me, mainly because i only really notice it when ive just filled up, so maybe this o-ring / filler nozzle is not maintaining the seal required and when the fuel is higher in the tank it leaks, because thinking about before i filled up, i smelt nothing Seem more likely to you? Or is it just me? Thanks very much Sky
  12. Seeing as this thread is fitting, and that mine seems to have lost interest, (sorry for the thread steal), I got 200 miles to the tank previously in my N/A, then I filled up today after 270miles after driving it sooooo nicely during its hesitation issues, im sure I would have normally gotten like 350 if not more! Anyway, I walked up to my car today, this is about 4 hours after coming home from filling up, and there was just this stench of petrol, my immidiate response was geeze, someones got a costly issue (as i was about 15 meters away from my car at this point) and good old karma kicked in to respond to my sarky comment to unveil that it was mine that stank of petrol, I have a leak.... I've traced the smell to more around the tank/middle of the car, not near the engine... Are theyre any problems people have hade like this, as in has a connection come loose? or a specific weak point that is prone to breakage? This feels to me, like an under the car jobby, but I dont have access to a ramp, or much cash to play with... should I leave it? until payday? (the 28th) I do have the day off tomorrow.. how much do you reckon a trip to Zedworld would set me back, for them to at least locate the problem? Cheers Sky
  13. Fuel pump connections looked ok, the earths are a bit mucky externally as to be expected, I couldn't get the other capped connections off though, so I assume that they either arent supposed to.. or if theyre that secure they should be pretty damn good connections! Though to be honest the car is running so well since I took off and then put the tps back on after looking at it... i dont know what i've done.. no hesitation, very good idle, though as I take off from a standstill I find that the revs drop still when it swaps over from idle to the loud pedal, so i have to make sure i put my foot down a bit more than usual.. Any ideas of whats happened? Also, there are 2 pumps, one is just a poitive and negative, the other has quite a few wires... is the pump variable or something? along with a float sensor maybe? cheers Sky
  14. I dont suppose you guys have seen these have you? some flipping good images and vids of the carting for example, lots of very high def pictures too enjoy if you've not been here before :D http://www.gtplanet.net/category/screenshots/ cheers Sky
  15. Hi all, had some very confusing driving today... I drove to work, and back from work and I even ragged it around my local ring road, not really a single hiccup.. its possible its slightly underpowered... im not really sure, it definitely smells like its still chucking quite a bit of fuel into the mixture.. But not a single shudder, all I did last night was take my tps off.. took it inside to look at it and put it back on again about an hour later after some dinner... It did however stall upon restarting after a bit of stationary revving when I got in, as if it was a little flooded maybe? (I was trying to see whether the drop in revs as it comes of idle was still there, which it wasnt really) Also! I have a perfect 800-1000ish idle... i've never had that before... however, I did notice that the idle when the engine was stone cold, was also only 800-1000ish revs, which in my opinion is wrong... it should be trying to warm up...? I've also heard a bit of a squeak from behind me as the ignition is turned, what I can only presume as the fuel pump.. its never made a squeak before though...? any ideas? cheers Sky
  16. I think I was just confused between the connectors, after reviewing a video of the TPS being pulled apart on the net (it was really good actually, all about z31 though http://www.youtube.com/user/LastHumansGarage#p/u/40/1Kn-2vu1IxQ) I could see that the one I thought was the TPS connector is the idle connector, thus only requiring the 2 wires. As I say, i'll get on the other connector tomorrow afterwork or something to see whether my voltages are right, or at least make them right, then if its all ok.. then I have to start looking somewhere else, I'm thinking of following the link in the other post from start to finish... until I sort the issue... Cheers Sky
  17. Hi all Just looking at my TPS sensor, just to see what it was doing.. is it wrong that i have only 2 wires going to the 3 pin connector? i dont understand why they would have 3 pins.. but 2 wires..? I looked at the connector boot which has corroded through, and only 2 green wires are inside... which makes me think its always been this way.. but im just reporting on my slightly odd findings.. Also.. what are the procedures in a 'checking your tps - for dummies' sort of manner... I got 9.63 at min and 12 at max, which if you read in this guide.. http://www.zhome.com/ZCMnL/PICS/hesitation/hesitation.html (you should look about 5/6 down the page and theres a picture heading the text of a tps with a green, yellow and red arrow) says that 9-10v to 12v is often seen when looking at the idle.. but i read something else.. the erratic idle pdf, which says by connecting the middle pin to a multimeter and then the meter to ground, you should get 0.45ish at min and 4 at max... (after reading again... I think I might have gotten the two plugs mixed up in my head, the plug in the photo above is for the idle, not tps, and the 3 pin plug also attached is the 'tps' side of things... i'll measure that again later...) cheers Sky
  18. Oh wow, that's pretty smart, does that sort of thing set you back quite a bit money wise? Is it just a case of getting the software and the bit of kit? But yeah that sounds like it could be handy, I'll see how this week goes, fiddling wise I might contact you about it after the weekend, I'm really desperate to get this done sharpish because I've got a uni block release for 6 weeks in Portsmouth starting as of next friday.. Which is always a bitch when it comes to the car because there's never any time or place to work on it.. Cheers Sky
  19. What are these consult things? A digi readout multimeter type thing with an interface that fits in the plug properly? And if my voltage is currently at 9.63 at it's minimum value, how will we change that to the 0.45 it should be reading? Cheers Sky
  20. I'm 21 miles from Brent cross my google maps says, pretty just follow the a1 until welwyn garden city and that's me! So it's not too much of a journey for me if I were to meet up Brent cross way, if that's what you were thinking? And ok, have you ever opened up your tps? Anything I should worry about if I were to give it a go? Such as skimpy wires or little springs which fly out? Cheers Sky
  21. What! Thats crazy money???? I'll PM him about sensors then, what is his online name?? i cant find a mike feeney... Cheers Sky
  22. Oh and also, just wanted to put forward my ideas about what could possibly be the issue, I have quite a few issues/questions I need clearing up.. I have a feeling that somethng like the idle could possibly be switching over when driving along.. possibly? When it has its hesitation its impossible to do anything throttle wise, when I push the clutch, let the revs settle back into idle and then bring the clutch up again, that little episode is over. That and i've never had an issue at idle, which to me makes me feel more confident its not a fueling issue. (anyone elses opinion??) When I push the throttle I can can hear a relay click over by my feet, is this the idle switch swapping over? or something like it? What controls the basic idle, as well as fuel in is the TPS (along with a screw in some other device called an IAA?)? The throttle cables turn the throttle bodies which in turn, turn the TPS... which in turn the ECU puts more fuel in... in a very basic understanding... (am I right?) I also know that the voltage output of the TPS should be 0.45v..ish at minimum value and approx 4v at maximum. I did test this on my TPS with just ignition on (according to the erratic idle pdf), and got 9.63v minimum, and 12.1v max..(this still has the 3.5v range).. Should I have turned the engine on? I didnt feel comfortable removing it and fiddling with it while the engine was running, or revving the living hell out of it by not removing it trying obtain the full range of the sensor.. Im not really sure what I want from this post.. but hopefully some of you can filter through the very apparent confusion and give me some good tips or answer some of my questions.. Thanks very much Sky
  23. Went to bennets on my way back from work, they dont deal with any of the sensors, but did come up with a fuel filter for £15! which isnt so bad, i'll order one soon. Does anyone know what Nissan charge for the various sensors for our cars? or do any of our traders deal with sensors? all the sites which I've bookmarked havent got any sensors, just performance and shiny stuff.. What do people think is an acceptable price for MAF, TPS and CAS, and maybe even Idle switch (or relay?) Thanks very much! Sky
  24. Hi, I'm also interested, both of my door windows have lots of vertical scratches in them, whats caused this? i've not had a reason to take the door cards off yet, but something there must be scratching there when the window are down.. Cheers (sorry for thread stealing) Sky
