Great Wedding, Great Honeymoon, but.......
Absolutely gutted for you mate. Speechless.

Would you turn down this job?
Thats what I do. If he took the self employed IT contractor route, he could claim his hotel bills mon-fri and travel expenses to and from. It legitamately cuts your tax bill by loads and there is no need for a long commute. It does mean mid week away from the family though :-(

Job ideas
at 36 your too old to retrain? Most people dont start work until they are 20, and have to work until they are 70. Thats 50 years hard graft for joe bloggs. You have only done 16 of them! You can retrain no probs. I recently employed someone who was 48 yrs old, but with only 3yrs of experience. In the interview he told me he retrained from a career as a trainer. I understand your worries about paying the mortgage, but if you really want a different career, you'll make it work somehow. You just need to work out what you really want to do, then go for it. What ever you decide, I wish you all the best matey :hyper:

As a Yank I dont understand UK mentality
I was under the impression that spoilers were only for adding downforce for cornering at the expense of drag (actually reducing top speed). Anyone who watched the last series of BBC's Topgear will remember the stig spinning off the track because his Koensigigigigigigigig had no spoiler, when it had one it cornered much better. But then there was the Bugatti Veyron test, where to do a top speed run Clarkson used a key to retract all the spoilers and lower the car a bit more. HTH Steve

FAO Bantumbunny
Cheers Nick, I will try and incorporate it tonight, looks straight forward enough. I'll keep you posted. I've not used any methods for generating random code before, and like the idea of this over downloading an app from an unknown software house! Thanks again Steve

Nick, Have you ever used an email address authentification system on any of your php/mysql websites? I have a username/password system in place, but it cant handle fake email addresses. Some systems send a link back to the users address for them to click to verify all is well. Have you used anything like that? If so - is it an app or did you write it yourself? Cheers Steve

Front mount turbo kits!!!!!
Would you get any gains? I would have thought by moving the turbos further away and having more/longer pipework you would introduce lag/problems. Great idea if it works properly though.

It training advice needed
All sound advice... I dont count exams when I interview people, its experience that counts - but there are still some people who require it as an entry requirements for interviews.. to answer your questions: Hell yes, if this is your first job in IT - after that, it becomes less so. There is still a shortage of good people. I would rather employ someone with 1yr experience who can show a good head on their shoulders than a lazy know it all who wont listen. I like HOST for training, but any of the large recognized trainers will do a good job. I have been working in IT for 9yrs now and have done most jobs at one stage or another from server engineer (mcse) to currently a data architect (SQL server 2005). If you want any direct advice, pm me and I will send you my mobile number. Steve

My Birthday Pressie competition!
Had a very odd day.... The Mrs gave me the usual pressies of aftershave, cd's, dvd's and a new gadget that I will never use... Then she suprised me by handing me a small pressie saying "this is a special something extra!" When I opened it, I was very confused as to why I got it - but now I am thinking it will be quite cool to use! Anyone who guesses correctly gets a virtual :duffer: Clues, it fits in one hand and it is for EXTERNAL use only (before anyone make an obscene suggestion)!

Best handling car ever...
Just been reading a thread on pistonheads about the best handling car ever being between a Lancia Delta HF Integrale and a Honda Integra Type R... :headvswal If you were to name the top 5 handling cars - I bet none would be in that list. Whats yours - and please keep it to cars you have driven. 1. Lotus Exige 2. Caterham 7 3. Mazda MX5 4. Nissan 300ZX 5. Focus ST 225

Stepping Down
Hi Mike, Sorry to hear you are stepping down after all the good work you have done. I would be interested in talking to you about looking after the systems. Please can you tell me how I need to proceed? Cheers, Steve M
