  1. Big disclaimer: I'm no expert. However... disregarding the problem with the cat for a second, which I suppose may be related in some way anyway (anyone?). If the car's a TT and feels like it's holding back it may be running in safety boost. Just a thought. Somebody who actually knows something will probably post in a bit so don't worry.
  2. Er, up until now about £700. However... I need to get 1 new rear wheel (Lenso GM 18 x 8.5) and as yet I've no idea how much that's going to cost.
  3. Yeah, I agree. That's that 8 bazillion bhp turbo conversion jobbie isn't it? Lovely car. The owner must enjoy wasting everything else on the roads on a daily basis.
  4. 15 bhp. You're joking right?!?
  5. Yeeaahh.... the dark side of the Capri. I remember there were a few where I was growing up with tiger-skin covers on the seats, and the like. Bleuch!
  6. Thanks guys. Me too. Car's just gone in for assessment this morning. Subsequently ABS light has come on, fuel pump relay appears to have stuck causing battery to drain, so I had to get her jump-started this morning (although I don't think the latter has anything to do with Friday's incident). Could be an expensive week, but like I say, just glad to still be in one piece. Had a look at the tyres: Michelin's, so I think this says something in their favour. Rear tyre *still* hasn't gone down and shows no sign of doing so. Unbelievable.
  7. Yep, nice car the Capri. My step-dad had one for a while: same model I think, 2.8i. Lot more reliable than the 3 litre version, or so I'm told at any rate.
  8. Now I know exactly how Mick felt, although my woes are somewhat less serious, and TBH I'm glad to still be here. Was driving up to Nottingham on Friday, heading along the A14 towards the M1. Anyway, some miles after the Spittles interchange at Huntingdon there's this gutter that runs right across the westbound carriageway (probably the eastbound as well but I didn't see). It's covered over with sections of concrete or metal, not sure which as I've never paid it much attention. I'm doing 70mph in the outside lane and am pulling back into the inside lane (I really was doing 70 -- there are too many speed cameras round there to be bothered looking out for them all the time anyway). Problem is that I see pretty much in the centre of the road (maybe just to the left of the centreline) that one of the sections covering this gutter is sticking out at one end. You can guess what happened next. Two loud bangs as both wheels on the drivers' side go over it. I had literally no time to react. Only thing I could have done was swerve violently (not about to do that at 70), or slam on the anchors. Again, not a great plan since there was another vehicle not too far behind in the inside lane. I stop at the next layby, which is about a mile further on. No visible damage to front tyre or wheel, however the rear tyre has a slight bulge in the side and the wheel has been deformed at the point of impact. Amazed both tyres didn't just blow out - that could have been *extremely* interesting. Even more gobsmacked that neither of them punctured. Don't know about damage to the suspension etc. Having an assessment done by a local garage tomorrow. Reported the incident to the police, and they've given me an address to submit a claim for cost of repair, which is good. I just hope the company concerned doesn't decide to make an issue of it. I wasn't able to take any photos at the time, and TBH they would have got a repair crew out straight away I imagine because of the type of road and the danger of an accident being caused. Not sure yet whether to get my insurers involved just because my excess is about £500 anyway, however I'm thinking perhaps if they did get involved it would speed things along with the company in question. Going to give them a call tonight. Anyway, for the time being it's kind of put paid to any ideas of getting my spoiler sorted, fitting an induction kit, and doing a few other bits and bobs, because at least in the short term I'm going to need some cash to get this sorted. At the very least it's probably a new wheel, two new tyres for the back (because I want to fit F1s and don't have them on at the moment), possibly new tyres for the front, plus any bits for the suspension. Of this I should be able to claim for the wheel and two of the tyres (assuming the front one needs replacing), but it's a pain in the arse if I have to do them all now because that's another £250 + labour. Sorry, I'm going to stop moaning now. Like I say, I'm just glad to still be here, and the car can be repaired no problems: it's only money after all. Just venting.
  9. Well... it's less grim than the MR2.
  10. All these kits look like they were put together in somebody's shed IMO. Think you're better off with just a vanilla MR2.
  11. Sorry, on a roll here. Just found something else that winds me up about VWs. Check out this review of the 2001 Golf GTi (bear in mind that I used to think this was quite a cool car). 2.0 litre, 20valve *turbo* kicking out.... 150 bhp. Why even bother? http://www.ukcar.com/road_tests/new/ I think, from memory, the 350Z will hit 60 in 5.9 seconds, but don't quote me on that. Not as fast as a TT Z32, but still in a different league to the Golf.
  12. Just had a look here: http://www.carpages.co.uk/volkswagen/volkswagen-golf-4motion-16-02-05.asp?switched=on&echo=926846653 Kind of suggests the 350Z driver was sleeping, or doesn't know what the peddle on the right is for. 9.2 seconds to 60. My old Clio would do it in 10.4. The GTi isn't much better: 7.2 seconds. Well, OK, I suppose 2 seconds is better than a kick in the head. New definition for irony though: spending the best part of twenty grand, minus the part exchange, on a brand new Golf GTi because you fancied something a "bit sporty". Grr. Twenty grand!! Unbelievable.
  13. There's a girl involved here somewhere isn't there?
  14. This one presumably? http://www.zclub.net/ Sure there was another UK site for the 300ZX as well, but can't remember the URL.
  15. Holy cow that's fast!! Not sure I believe 1.056 seconds to 60, but still... absolutely unbelievable. Wonder what his mpg is like.
  16. Just make sure you get round it quicker than the lass in the Transit van.
  17. Lose the headlights (very Peugeot 406) and it'd be fine.
  18. No idea. Looks like a pretty clean example. That spoiler is *massive*, although pretty easily fixed if you don't like it.
  19. You're not towing a caravan or anything at the same time are you?!? 9 seconds?? That's not right.
  20. Glad to hear you got the fees back. Just relist it mate. Should be fine if you've got some positive feedback. I agree though, they could have sent you an automated email warning in advance asking you to check/change the title/description or anything.
  21. Yeah, although I just looked at my policy and it's not down as garaged. Renewal is £612 or something like that. 29 years, 5 years no claims. Area/post code might have something to do with it.
  22. Very true, not to mention people using photos that look suspiciously like real Momo Millennium Evolution steering wheels to advertise something that's clearly a copy/replica (although the guy did give me a refund so I'm not going to complain too loudly about that).
  23. Now that, as the saying goes, is a shame. Still, maybe it *is* a work in progress. Maybe it'll look OK when it's all done... or maybe I'm dreaming. I dunno.
