  1. I really need to go to Bruntingthorpe and have a go there I think! I also need a GPS system as I don't think my speedometer is very accurate. I wasn't being dismissive of Bob's times, but its difficult to comprehend for someone who's not familiar with the strip and 1/4 miles. Anyway, after a little digging I found these times which have helped me to put into context how quick Bob's car is. These times were allegedly compiled by European car magazines such as Autocar etc. Its not a like for like comparison these times are 0-200 kilometers (pretty much Bob's terminal speed give or take 3 mph), but it helped me. Carrera GT - 10.2 Enzo - 10.3 SLR - 10.7 F430 - 12.2 996 GT2 - 12.4 Murcialago - 12.5 SL65 AMG - 12.6 M6 - 12.8 996 TT ‘S’ (450HP) - 13.1* Gallardo - 13.3* SL 600 - 13.5 996 TT (420HP) - 13.7* CL65 AMG - 13.8 Viper SRT-10 - 13.8 SL-55 AMG - 13.8 E60 M5 - 13.9 E55 AMG - 14.6 996 GT3 - 14.8 A/M Vanquish- 15.3 CLS55 AMG - 15.4 997 C2S (2005) - 16.0 Z8 - 16.1 360 Modena - 16.1 M3 CSL - 16.7 Bentley Continental GT- 16.7* SLK55 AMG - 16.8 E46 M3 Coupe - 16.8 E39 M5 - 16.9 C32 AMG - 16.9 Z06 (2001 model - 385 HP) - 17.0 Masariati Cambiocorsa - 17.0 996 C2S - 17.3 545i - 17.9 2001 M Roadster (315 HP) - 18.1 2002 Honda NSX-R - 18.2 CLK55 AMG - 18.7 Audi RS6 Sedan - 18.7* Audi S4 Sedan - 19.9* 2005 Boxster S - 19.9 Dodge Ram SRT-10- 21.0 So, as you can see, Bob's motor is right up there with the Lambos and Porsches anf Fezzas. If he hits his 'perfect' time then he'll be well into Supercar territory, which is what I would have expected tbh. Not shabby at all! Of course, you have to remember these times were obtained in different conditions, but it certainly helped me to put 0-128 in 12.4s into context!
  2. Was looking on a few websites, they seemed to suggest the Zed will do the standing qtr in 14-15 secs depending on year and model (TT's obviously). Does that sound right? Doesn't seem to be a lot of gain for all that extra power? Has anyone got a time for a more conservatively tuned car, about 300bhp etc? Do you have any idea of sprint times Bob 0-60, 0-100 etc? Maybe that would be a better bench mark for me to understand how quick your car is? Also, are you using any ECU trickery to launch, or is it done by your right foot (or possibly a combination of both of these).
  3. I know very little about drag racing or qtr miles, but I was pretty surprised to see 'only' a 12.4 time. Having watched too many Fast & Furious movies, I was convinced your car would be a '10 second car'. Which makes me ask, WTF do you have to do to a car to make it a sub-10 sec car? According to the movies you need to paint it orange, I think that'll knock another second off your time. What time are you expecting once you've mastered the launches Bob? Any predictions? Good effort though.
  4. If you can feel any play or see any worn bushes or suspension components, then replacing them should be top of your priorities. I had a worn upper link and it made the car handle like a pig. But it never had chance to affect the tyre wear. If you are in any doubt, take it to Jeff at Zedworld and ask him to use some good quality breaker parts to refresh any tired parts you have. It will not cost too much that way. It will make a huge difference to the handling and tyre wear though.
  5. Is my car limited to 155mph? Only one way to find out bud! :whistling:
  6. 19:57: 19:58: Let me guess.. Did he tell you to turn it off and on again??
  7. Wouldn't you have to completely strip the interior to weld the floorpan? I would have a much more thorough prod around - if the sills look like that then the boot/fuel tank and rear bumper areas could be just as bad. I wouldn't repair it - it would play on my mind too much when driving. Really gutted for you chief, from above the car/sills look really good. Bummer
  8. I remember being 17 and in my mates Polo GT one night. We were bombing down some back lanes, when a pair of headlights appeared behind us. Next second it blasted past, back box singing!! RS1600i.. we were like 'wow' that's a quick car. LOL As much as I love Fast Fords, I'd never have another (well, not without a garage and at least 2 other cars to use) - they just turn to rust too easily. Look after it (as I'm sure you will) though and I'm sure you'll enjoy it!
  9. I've read nothing but good things about the chassis - especially the lower spec (i.e: non cooper) models. Apparently the skinnier tyres brings the chassis alive, compared to the over-tyred wheels that most people prefer for aesthetic purposes. Couldn't tell you what the reliability was like, but I imagine its comparable to any other car of the same age and value. BMW don't make terrible cars. I reckon its a pretty cool little car - its just a shame they called it 'Mini', because it clearly isn't. Maybe 'Medium' would have been a better name?
  10. Am I the only one thinking 'at least they didn't key it'.. Would much rather someone had done that to my car rather than the many dings its got being parked in public car parks.. Or when my skyline got keyed - twice. A quick blast upto 100mph and most of it would be gone! Then a quick sponge to get the rest off!! Weird isn't it, that I've already accepted that things like this are going to happen and that this behaviour represents the better end of the spectrum? Must be a sign of how things are. It would still be worth people doing things like that though, just cos - one day, you're gonna catch one of 'em (and very probably unleash many years of pent up aggression). You'll go to prison, but you'll go to prison smiling at least!! It's a fookin sad world we live in. (that's a lovely colour for a GTR too)
  11. I agree, this will be far more rewarding than buying yet another Zed to break. A proper turbo conversion would give you 400+ bhp easily and cost about 2.5 - 3k if you do it right. AND it wouldn't break every time you wanted to drive it! We'll still talk to you and stuff - I mean, its not like we've dis-owned stellaz or owt!
  12. He may be a computer geek, but he's alright really!! Top bloke for aiding the club spirit. +3 Karma points awarded (just another 60 million to make up for the body shop gaff now!)
  13. Traction control arm bushes? Thought we were talking about the front suspension? Or do you mean tension rod bushes? Sorry if I seem pedantic.. My advice would be to take it to someone who knows what the fook they're on about. Also, if you know there is play in the suspension, get it fixed - otherwise its completely pointless (as mentioned before). Failing all else, drive the car like you're trying to kill it. If it has got high camber, driving more aggressively will keep the tyre flat while cornering as this is the whole point of adding extra camber. It isn't really helpful on the motorway!
  14. Not usually a fan of all black wheels, but I think they look pretty smart (black wheels always need shiny tyre sidewalls to look their best too). With a little accent of colour behind them with the new calipers I think they'll look sweet
  15. It just goes to show - every cloud has a silver lining! Well done. Do you get a company car????
  16. Some people are soo selfish... I mean how inconsiderate, fancy getting cancer when you're waiting for your lights. Tshh, some people eh? Have you maneged to extract your foot from your mouth yet? lol
  17. I agree, its far too early to chuck the towel in yet bud. Its it bit like getting a cold and making your own funeral arrangements - at least get it diagnosed before you bury it! If you could take a video of the rattle/diesel sound and post it up, it would give some of the boffins a chance to offer their opinions. In my experience, if its not blowing smoke and you can't see a rod sticking out the block, then it probably aint too bad! Unless you're just looking for a reason to get shot of it - even if that is the case, its far easier to shift a working car than a broken one.
  18. Just had a quick search on the net and one very similar has just sold for 1700 quid.. Oh, woops - my mistake, forgot the decimal point in there; it should have read 17.00 quid. Nevermind, you can walk the dog, she can walk the hoover - sounds fair to me  http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OLD-ANTIQUE-EWBANK-ALBION-CARPET-SWEEPER-GREAT-/280710529845
  19. I reckon it might be worth a bob or two to someone who collects them! Can you imagine the type of person who collects hoovers though! I bet a TV props department would find a use for it in some period drama or something. I'd definitely check its value before you try cleaning it up (or rather, letting the missus clean it up), it would be gutting to find you'd lowered its value by cleaning it/damaging the wood. Let some antique restorer do the job - they might even take it off your hands?
  20. I have to say, what a load of nonesense :scared: Anyone who knows anything about tumbleweeds, will know they need a hot, arid environment to grow. AND, tumbleweeds are actually dead varieties of plants which were once alive - so you can't physically grow tumbleweeds (in the same way you can't grow a dead a person). You could however, grow something that would eventually (after eons of time) turn into a tumbleweed. Carbon dating suggests that tumbleweeds are infact older than most dinosaur remains and could, possibly, be the oldest dead things ever invented.
  21. Most of the time I'd agree - product replacement insurance (or whatever) is usually a waste of money. That said, I came unstuck at Argos when my 100 odd quid microwave packed up after 13 months.. Would have been wise to take the cover on that one.. Still, on the brightside, the missus' cooking has improved no end.. Phone companies = Toss bags. Fact
  22. Is it because they look like the overly-used 'M3 style' mirrors that can be found on many Novas and Corsas? I've seen worse, but I'm not keen either. Would be pretty handy if you wanted to get rid of the side repeater on the wing though..
  23. I'm old school - I don't have Sat Nav.. I prefer to know where I'm going before I get there!! That said, I could borrow one - will let you know in a few weeks.
  24. Difference between my wheels and stock items is less than 2 % of overall rolling diameter - which still doesn't explain the near 8% descrepency on the speedo at 4k rpm in 5th. Must be something else I think?
