  1. :nono: technically the pipes are individual and so should be listed individually, its for the benefit of the vehicle presenter so that they know exactly which pipes to replace, also a tester can only issue a reason for rejection when he is sure that the defect meets with the failure criteria, if unsure he should advise on the defect and leave it up to the customer. If a tester cant see something he cant just decide to fail the car just because the pipe might be corroded. the 80% of the pipes you are on about can be seen (just) but unless your tombs from the X files there aint anyway you can properly asses them and by that i meen using the correct corrosion assesment tool and not a two foot long chisel. What i was originally getting at is all to often a tester on seeing one or two pipes corroded will state that all the pipes are corroded because it is easier to do so than list those that really need replacing. On the other hand my car failed last year on two rear brake pipes, as I stated i decided to do them all, I quickly found out that most of the pipes were total knackered one of the just broke away when I went to remove it. these pipes were corroded in places that was impossible to see, Id advise anyone who hasnt changed the brake pipes on their UK Z to do it, probably the imports as well if they have been over here a few years, fast cars and no brakes dont mix
  2. fook sake you've not had much luck with that car. sorry to hear you need so much doing for the mot, but I theres a couple of things the mot station havent done properly, ie may have failed the car incorrectly. sills corroded at the body mounts ????? aint no body mounts on a Z chassis,to fail the corrosion has to be within 30cm of a specified component on the Z that means brakes, steering, suspension or seat belt mounting fook all to do with body mounts. all brake pipes corroded, he's just being lazy and didnt want to list them individually as he's supposed to, hard to believe all the pipes are fooked and he probably couldnt see half them anyway. have a look at the sill and brake pipes, if the corrosion on the sill is outwith 30cm of any of the above components and any of the underside brake pipes look ok ( surface corrosion is considered ok, remember he said all pipes so every single one has got to be corroded to excess) then get straight back to the garage tell him you aint happy and ask for a VT 17 appeals form to send to VOSA he has got to give you one. If you need to go down the road of an appeal it will cost the price of a test but if you get some of the more costly items knocked of the fail it may be worth it. ps. couple of my brake pipes were picked up at last years test, because of the work involved to do them I did the lot 2 days of pure fun!!!! good luck things must start getting better soon
  3. same here, nearly a foot of snow and its still chucking it down. Z stays tucked up in the garage today methinks. I'll go out and play in the pug instead

  15. Sorry to hear of the bump Alan, I just went through all that crap as well, a woman rammed into the drivers side took out the door and the front wing I was sure they were gonna write it off. the woman accepted the blame her insurers contacted me and told me that they would send an assesor but even if it wasnt deemed repairable I would still get to keep the car PLUS they would give me full market value cha ching :) :) :) Assesor came out and said the cars worth saving  , so instead of me getting to repair it plus have extra for some bling it went into a vauxhall dealer for repairs using brand new parts and shoddy workmanship :( :( Ahh well cant win them all. hope you get yours fixed out ok

  22. I looked into this a little as well, the thing that put me off was the time involved and trying to find a plot, I was considering the kit option and some of the kit manufacturers have good web sites on the subject. http://www.scotframe.co.uk/ Just run a search on google etc
