Just this thread - http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=94200 but thats more about its progression from a rolling shell to a road car. Looking to get it on the road first and make changes as I go, but have started on the basics. The swb slicktop is already about 100kg lighter than the equivelent 2+2, and I've lost another 100kg so far with full Hicas & aircon removal, lightweight seats fitted, 1 piece prop and other bits and pieces such as removal of EGR, AIV's, toolkits, stock spoiler and other unnessary parts...etc It will be fully track ready with seam welding, roll cage, coilovers, adjustable everything, big brakes..etc But im not going for a stripped out track only car, more of a fast road car capable of competing in events such as time trials, hill climbs and track days. It will eventually have the VG30DETT removed, and a highly tuned VH45de Nissan V8 put in its place with Dry sump, Custom Individual Throttle bodies, higher compression, cams...etc The new lump will lose another 60-100kg over the Stock engine too and will give a very responsive, powerfull and high revving output. Investigating lexen glass and Carbon fibre panels too, but may not be needed.

The Zed in that link is actually fairly underpowered in comparison to all the cars it was beating. I think about the 400 at wheels figure as not that heavily tuned engine wise. Depends which type of zed you start with as a base....I should see sub 1300kg (without stripping interior!) ;)

....unreliable, complicated, expensive to fix and run, and thats compared to the zed !! Also big, heavy and a bit dull to drive

Wheel hop - The 2 biggest causes are worn subframe bushings and Worn rear shocks. The zed will still give a small amount of wheel hop with wheelspin as standard though, due to the floating rear subframe.

I did'nt know anything about it....got link to details ? lose some weight in the obvious places and with a proper suspension and brake setup there is a lot of potential. lets not forget it blew away the competition on its launch on many different tracks, including the best porsche could offer.

timing/ apexi set-up?
What ECU are you running. Its generally best to allow timing to be mapped with the ECU, rather than just increasing the base timing. Not very familiar with the AVCR, do you have instruction manual, they are downloadable online if not.

Hi mate, did'nt realise you had the same. I made the mistake of buying without trying, but they do seem suprisingly comfortable. Did you use the stock subframe with the cobra side mounts ? Im using the stock manual sliding subframes and fabricating some adaptors as there is about an inch difference in widths, same for you ?

My latest Zed - what do I change...
2nd vote for 99spec lights I would never of chosen any of the bodykit parts on your zed john......however I actually think it works really well and looks great ! ..same for the wheels....3 spokes are normally :hurl: ...but when you see the car in the flesh it really suits them. Strange !! LOL

New lightweight FIA approved seats have arrived (6kg each versus the stock electric 30kg each !), and have been working on fabricating the subframes for them. Also Collected rear 4-point roll cage (cheers Pete) so that will be going in very soon. Still got to retrim the rear panels so they are still removed.

More progress... :hyper: Suppose I should of done this is a journal really, using this thread to keep an update for myself more than anything else. Car is in garage, Aircon and hicas completely removed, engine bay degreased and cleaned. Have done EGR removal, Plenum water bypass, relocated det sensor and fitted lightweight pulley to new low mileage TT engine and that is ready to be dropped in.

Starting to like the Infinity G35 (Skyline) quite a bit now.
Its not wrong to call it a skyline...a skyline is just a large sports/family Coupe, they are used as taxi's and company cars in japan.........its not a GTR just a skyline. GTR is to Skyline, like Cosworth is to sierra. Nissan has just decided to sperate the two as seperate vehicles. So the skyline is still a skyline, and the GTR is a brand new car.

Cat wires
They are the Cat overheat sensor wires. They sense when the cat is overheating, usually from unburnt fuel burning in the exhaust system. They only go to a light on the dashboard and cutting them wont cause any problems. Make sure you tape up the bare wires though.
