unfortunately i agree. flux quoted me almost 2k. age 31, 2 years NCB, clean licence, garaged, thats the 3 quote from then, and its never been below 1.5k so far, even for simple cars like 1.9lt TD xantia sx, and my pug 406 2.0l turbo exec. again well over 1.5k ??? Lynbrook was my cheapest with Classic car, @£300 a year fully comp. And asda car insurance, lol £4768 for the year. When my car insurance comes up for renewal might ring carol nash and see what they can offer, i love lynbrook though cant fault them so far. It should also help with how long you have had the car. due to it not being a fleeting fancy.

Craig can you open the OEM valves? if so what about replacing the springs with the ones in them? might just do the trick, then you can wave your willy while sounding like a scania truck lol

just out of curiosity, if your steering wheel starts shaking. why did you speed up? lol Check your bolts on the wheels while you are there, simple things first.

Ouch, tbh i don't even know if I'm covered for windscreens, but seemed a bit cheeky ringing them up and asking them for a car id only just got lol Looks good with out the wipers on the front screen too lol, haven't refitted them yet. still want the bonding to dry fully before i put all fittings back in place. Wheels will be all fully paid for soon, cant wait to finally say they they are mine. they look really good on both cars now. have to admit I'm missing the lowered stance of the silver one. but not the fact i couldn't get a jack under it, handy safety device though for Craig's wheels. if no one can jack the car up, they cant nick the things. doesnt matter now though, its nice and safely tucked away in a garage. and the fit is very tight. had to have the drivers window down and the targa off just to get out lol

Here are the photos of today's progress, windscreen renewal To help the guy out, bonnet removed, cowling removed an weather strips taken off, already for him to arrive and start work, making it much faster for him, not only that, means hes not damaging any of my fixtures. Bloke arrived and quickly tapped up the window and started to remove it. ooh pretty, windscreen removed. bonnet in the boot lol, yes it fits and safest place for it tbh yay my new screen The perspex bonnet mod looked awesome... looking lovely go faster stripes didn't quite work out as planned. More shots just for the fun of it, why is the Zed so photogenic? Ass end Paint job looks ok here too, just noticed im missing the rear spoiler brake light. something else to add to my must get list. always have loved the OEM older spoiler. makes the back end of the car look so much sexier

it smokes soon as you throttle it. it pours out the rear, ill get a photo, can be quite bad if the wind isn't blowing lol. doesnt look blue though its more white, If i disconnect the waist gates and close, by passing the turbos surely this would stop the smoking? if only for a while till it comes out somewhere else lol. Paul are you a MOT tester? Inquired about the garage. but not going to be able to do it now till next week as they want £82 upfront before they hand the keys over. cant do it this week as just spent out on getting a windscreen replaced along with cash to get the car here in the first place.

Disconnect the waist gate on my turbos, will it stop them pumping smoke into the exhaust as my drivers side turbo only kicks out smoke when on boost. so i can get it through its MOT and get the car TAX? then i can sort out the turbo at a later date. reason i ask, is i had two police around my car today. and when i asked if everything was ok, they informed me that the housing association who kindly housed me recently. has given DVLA permission to clamp and remove untaxed cars. and i need to either get the car moved. or garaged quick. So, im now in the process of getting a garage sorted out. BUTTTT would ideally like it to be taxed and MOT'ed then i can work on the other things. Or is there some other way to stop it smoking just long enough for the MOT? i still wont drive the car until the turbos have been sorted and i stop this smoking issue. I heard about putting thicker oil in, but not sure i would like to go that route. even if it is for a short period of time (IE just for the MOT) as im not sure if it would effect anything else, due to it having to sit on idle while they MOT it. Surely a bit of luck can come my way this year, its getting ridiculous...

Well don't worry to much about it matey, I'm loving the car to be perfectly honest, and I'm happy I did the swap, so please do not take this as a "if I had known...." thread. Always something that gets overlooked or missed. Anyway I enjoy the challange and it's a TT like I always wanted. :) so thank you. I agree there was a oily smell With blue smoke yesterday when you showed me. But it's now White smoke an only the smell of normal exhaust gasses. In fact it hardly smokes on first start and when idling now, only when revved. Quick question for those in the know, can a left hand turbo be fitted to the right hand side of the engine if the turbine housing is changed?

iirc someone mentioned on here it could be the bushes but not sure what ones, an I can't use the search funtion now I'm using my phone again

Please note the exhaust from the cat back boxes. is joined in the center just after the bolting stage. so might be some excess smoke creeping in from the drivers side. but the gurgling is from the back of the exhaust not from near the wing. and there is plenty of water in the pipes. Was going to put my oval back boxes on (damn they're big once off the car) but the bolts that hold the exhaust on just after the cats, need melting off, and someone has welded the passenger side exhaust back box pipe work to the cat? so going to have to melt that off too lol. All the original pipe work is there for the exhaust and all still connected. that's what makes me believe that the zorst that's on it. is the one it originally exited the showroom with when first bought. Anyone know what the symptoms of a suspected head gasket failure is? Engine seems like it has good compression. no smell of burning coolant. no smell of burning oil. its white smoke not black or blue as stated already. could it even be whats suggested in that old thread about the PCV valves? And would the rapid ticking be a faulty injector?

Had the car running for almost an hour, the exhaust was hot enough, but it was still dripping heavily from both pipes. and when you revved the car to 6k revs, its spat it out the rear in a line around 4 inches long behind both pipes. when it was idling you could hear the water gurgling away, like what a drain pipe sounds like when air is pushed through it with water blocking the way? very strange. It might be that the car has been stood a long time. and that its collected lots of condensation into the exhaust that its formed into pools of water rather than droplets so needs to evaporate more before it fully clears. Also, going to need to change the timing belt. although it was changed less than 12k miles ago, that 12k miles was 2001 to present. so cant see the belt standing the test of time that well tbh.

Windscreen wipers not working? might be a fuse, I'm yet to check Windscreen jets not working. might be a fuse, yet to check lol Need left hand windscreen jet nozzle as this has snapped at the pipe end passenger side wing mirror (this is still attached but the mirror is broken, as it looks like its taken a knock at some point) Rear screen wiper needs a new blade (hardly an issue lol) Needs a new aerial replacement spoiler as the one on it is just held on by two clips at the moment. Need to refit the rear lights as they have been removed at some point and not been fitted back in flush with the body work. Drivers side turbo is smoking (although might be something else, further investigation is needed) Passenger side turbo seems to be leaking water of some sort. but might not even be the turbo, just looks like it from under the car as that's where the dripping is coming from, only leaks when engine running? Need the clips to hold the boot blind to the boot lid as these are missing. Replace the plastic covering behind the release handle for the drivers side targa Aircon pod not working, i get no temp settings. or anything, might be a fuse or it might be the pod not plugged in as this also houses the windscreen wiper functions. Digital clock not working (typical lol) Bulb on the passenger side fog light needs replacing as its not working, drivers side fog is fine. and also a break light bulb as well on the drivers side. Tapping noise in time with the engine revs. might be a faulty injector so going to remove the plugs and have a look at the wires first before taking the top of the engine apart for a more detail examination. and apart from cosmetics that's not bad for a 20 year old car lol

Both lol, the windscreen gets replaced tomorrow so will get some piccys up, it's been sprayed black from the original gray, but can't say it's the best of jobs I'll try and get a video of it too, thought it might of been headgasket failure at one point but the fumes from the zorts doesn't smell of coolent either? It does sound like a injector isn't firing though as there is a tapping (not knocking) coming from the same side as the smoky tub.

Swapped my N/A for a 1990 twin turbo, and had it running today, noticed that the left hand side turbo is leaking water, but there doesn't seem to be any coolent in the water??? Even though I've given it fresh coolent change today? Also although the drivers side is smoking, it doest seem as though it's the oil seals on the turbo as it doesn't smell of burnt oil? Can the water seals in the turbo go? Also it looks like it's still got the original exhuast on from 20 years ago, and when revved, spits out crap loads of water out of both pipes, it was that bad you could here it gurggling on idle, good thing is it holds it's temp and doesn't over heat, can't work out how so much water is getting into the exhaust system and it isn't even got coolent in it? Also been under the car and had a good poke about, and everything is looking very good. It idles nicely, and revs past 2500, checked the airfilter but no water there any ideas?

Aww now you tell me, I left the decat pipes on my N/A as from what I knew the tt was different, must of been after Market elbows on the TT I see. Bugger

Go to zcenters website they sell after Market exhausts with pictures they clearly show the Decat pipes are different between the N/A and TT. The TT pipes fit to the turbos and the N/A fit to the manafold, if I'm correct the N/A downpipes are 3 bolt fixtures and the TT's are 4, but I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

Agreed, I'm with them too, limited 8k a year miles / age 31 / declaired mods, £300 a year fully comp. Just changed from a N/A to a TT and my insurance didn't even rise by 1p

The are different, having just gone from a n/a to a TT I can safely say there is a difference, what I am going to find out tomorrow though is if you can fit N/A mongoose exhaust back boxes to TT cats, I'll let you know

One thing I've noticed about photos an the 300zx. They never do the car justice, photos always seem to make the car look shorter then it is.

Get down your local national tyre and ask them, they did my break line for my front caliper. just take the end with the thread with you and they will match it up unless your on about a different part of the break line, they can also flair the ends too
