Future Z owner
Well i have a TT import on a classic car insurance policy with Lynbrook - limited mileage (8000 per year) (needs to be a second car to qualify for said policy) I am 32 with no claims or convictions, and 4 or 5 years NCB and it costs me about £260 a year.... pretty good if you ask me. In fact its cheaper than my insurance on my old scirocco!

99 spec owners!
Matt, can you do me a favour please and tell me how long, ie front to back the feet/uprights are on your new spoiler please? I am toying with the idea of sticking a 99 spoiler onto a tailgate which already has a smoothed upturned lip - and i want to know dimensions to get an idea if it would fit or not. Cheers buddy.

What a numpty.....
I just had a mate swap a starter motor, and the ignition switch on my old scirocco as it wouldn't start off the key. He just buzzed me to say that we could have saved £60 and a lot of time by turning the imoboliser off!!!!! What a numpty!

Question about changing my auto turbos to the larger manual ones.
ahh ok dude, thanks - what is the difference that this would actually make; say if on a dyno you had 2 identical cars, one fitted with the auto tubs and the other with the slightly larger manual? would it make any difference at all?
-
Question about changing my auto turbos to the larger manual ones.
the slightly smaller tubs on the auto will spool up quicker giving a slight (if noticeable at all) acceleration improvement, but at the slight loss of top end power so its up to you - I'm leaving my Auto tubs on as lets be honest when do we ever get to the top end?

my zed is poorly !!
and if you did then you would probebly go the whole hog and swap it out for a manual..... You had a decent box for sale at the right sort of money didn't you Smithy? or was that Slick Pete? I know Vods has one for sale too, so lots of options for you fella. I hope you get it sorted soon, I know how you feel as my box went last week and i'm getting her towed on Saturday then starts the manual conversion... so excited i think a bit of wee came out! :hyper::hyper:

well lets hope we can get yours working enough to get you to Vods and then you can have his working box and get it swapped over. I just had to go sort out a fight outside between a load of kids, and am now leaving to go home, so will get the guide emailed over in about an hour or so.

Gearbox Fault. Anyone in mids area that can help me??
yeah - clear/red type colour - but they may have changed the fluid and not cleared out the strainer - i swapped the fluid first and it did not help, but when i removed the filter/strainer it was clearly really clogged up and loads of stuff came out when cleaning it out. It helped but did not completely solve my gearbox issues, but i did get a good few hundred miles out of it befor it started going again. Manual conversion for me.... but i will miss the autobox

my zed is poorly !!
To be honest you should have a chat with Jeff - he is most knowledgeable and as helpfull a garage owner as i have ever come accross. If he can help you out - i'm sure he will, and you are not to far away to be honest. He probebly has a box or 2 kicking around as well so maybe 2 birds with one stone and all that? Hope you get it sorted soon mate

Gearbox Fault. Anyone in mids area that can help me??
matt, it doesn't sound too dissimilar to what was happening with mine, it would rev high but with hardly any drive at all - just crawl and wouldn't change out of 1st. It was also making quite a high pitched whirring type noise. Car ramps are fine but really you want to try and get the car level if you can, (to be honest mine was not level) likewise the front of the zed might be too low for the ramps so you may have to either extend the ramp with some wood or drive onto bricks or wooden planks or something first to raise the front bumper up. I am at work right now, but when i get home later i will email you the "how to" guide. To be honest it wont take you more than a few hours to do the job from start to finish. If you start first thing you will be able to do it twice in 1 day - but make sure you do a couple of miles inbetween changes (this is because the box and torque convertor hold about 8 litres in total, but when you drain the box you will only get about 4.5 -5 litres out. and if the fluid is all crappy then you will want to get it all out.

Gearbox Fault. Anyone in mids area that can help me??
seriously mate it is not a hard job - i have very little mechanical knowledge, and was worried i would not be able to, but was able to do it. Basically jack the car up and get it on some axel stands then get underneath - between the front wheels and back a bit (under the gear shifter and box) you will see a black metal cover with a big bolt on one corner - this is the drain hole. 17mm i think (or 19mm) undo and let fluid drain in to a plastic container (needs to be at least 5 litres in size as 5 litres will come out) once all the fluid is out you can start removing the bolts which hold the sump(black metal cover) in place. 10mm bolts. once you have unscrewed them all (about 16 of them) you take off the cover revealing the underside of teh box and you will see a flat metal filter with another 4 bolts to remove. Take it off and then clean out the filter using brake cleaner or petrol and replace everything as it came off. - hopefully this will allow you to drive a bit - do a few miles and then repeat the process. It really is quite simple. I have a "how to" guide with pics of this job if you want. Give me your email addy and i will send it over so you can see. You will probebly get at least a few miles out of her maybe enough to get it over to Vods?

Hi..looking to sell my 300zx but cant list due to being new here...!
that is some offer Matt - no way you could get your car to Northampton? Seems a shame to let her go just because of the box.... You don't fancy the cleaning of the filter etc as suggested in earlier threads? It really is quite an easy job to get the filter out and clean it up, (well it must be as i managed it and i have next to no mechaniocal knowledge - just followed peoples advice and guidance on here) it might well work enough to give you the opportunity to drive up to see Vods and then he can swap out your old box for his decent one? Just a thought.
