Yet more questions!
With the window down on my Zed, I can smell exhaust fumes even when driving around 40~50mph. I seem to remember this on my last zx too, and just wondered if it is an inherent fault to all Zeds? There's no smoke from the exhausts, no oil dropping onto the exhausts/turbo's and no smoke from around the turbo area? I have the UK version and wondered if the front outermost lights in the spoiler were meant to be hooked up? Since I don't have fogs, the indicators and sidelights are there instead...

Central locking & air con
I was wondering if Zeds came from the factory with a fob for the cetral locking, or was an alarm usually added to achieve locking via a fob? I seem to remember the pulse wires were in the drivers door? I bought this car with the air con not working - the belt was removed. I have fitted a new belt to prove that the idler etc isn't running noisy, I'm guessing now that there isn't any gas in the system. I want to get this up and running but would like to know where the pressure sensor is located so I can verify that the e/m clutch on the compressor works/rotates before shelling out for a re-gas. Cheers.

Heater not going to cold.
Thanks for all the help so far guys. I can't see how the engine thermostat will affect the heating inside the car - if the matrix valve is off, then it should be cool inside the car surely? Is the link above the same on the Uk version Zed? My previous Zed was an import and these controls look to be slightly different, although it could just be my imagination! Sly, I've only just come back to the magic of Zeds, so I'm not yet a member again and therefore cannot pm, my email address is duckplasma@lavabit.com apologies if I'm not meant to post that here :s The pdf file would be great :)

Heater not going to cold.
No matter if I put the temp at the lowest, there's still heat from the vents, I'm guessing the valve is operated by a motor, any ideas on what to try/where to look? Cheers

Back for a second time!!
Hi all I've just bought another Zed after messing about with a few other cars. It's a '92 LWB TT UK Version with the wide arch conversion, some of you will have no doubt spotted it on eBay. No car this age is without its flaws, but all in all its a worthwhile purchase! I plan on becoming a member again shortly, so far just a few bits are needed: Washer bottle for the front and a window strip for the drivers door. I can be reached on duckplasma@lavabit.com Good to be back ;)

Where does everyone think I stand?
Also though, it shows signs of liability. Many companies won't do a part refund because then they can be perceived as being the 'guilty party'. You can then possibly find yourself liable for the whole amount and possibly other costs added! I'm sticking to my guns on this one. If he wanted half the deposit back, then he should have said at the time. He lost me another deal, he used 5 miles of my petrol, cost me time that I could have been working, why shouldn't I have had some compensation? It's also true to say, a deposit is a contract to complete a sale - legally, he should have completed.

We were in contact via the phone to arrange his 'collection' of the car etc. I knew it would be pointless to try and talk sense to him - when someone does a 100% U turn, there's no room for manoeuvre. I think after he said 'keep the deposit', he probably got an ear-bashing from his other half... For me, it's got to the point where its more about the principals than the cash and I'm sure paypal would see me as being suspect if I were to suddenly give in. It also admits liability and he would maybe then have grounds to claim the whole amount back! He did this to himself by not being honest, the part that sticks in my throat is being called a liar and having my car totally slated and saying it's not 'as per description' which in fact, makes him the liar on two counts... I'm not ruling out a claim issued by him via the courts, as this 'tool' seems very petty!

Where does everyone think I stand?
After all the stress this has caused me, there was no other option but to say No. Funny how in one breath they imply my deals could be dodgy, but in the next, this whole thing will go away if I cave in. I told them if this is how the ebay community now operates, maybe I don't want to be part of it anyway!

Where does everyone think I stand?
Time for an update. Paypal closed the dispute - I phoned up and also checked my account to verify. You'd think that would be the end of this, but no. I got an email from paypal asking for additional details, I gave them chapter and verse... This was part of the message to sum up (I won't give all details for possible legal reasons). "I have read through the dispute notes and can see two very different matters of opinion over the car, and you are correct that PayPal policy does not cover cars, nor do we cover classified ads or part payments." "However, I am concerned about what has happened in this situation and may need to refer both the PayPal account and the eBay account to our risk department, to ensure the account is being used in full compliance of our terms and conditions, and the check the eBay listings posted." "I can consider the matter closed, if the deposit paid for the item, can be returned, and this matter can be considered fully resolved." This smacks of them having no legal power, but a form of blackmail hanging over my ebay account is now implied! The car has since sold into a collection of vehicles and inspected by someone who knew what they were talking about. He was totally happy with the car which dispels the other muppets opinion.

Where does everyone think I stand?
That's really bad, especially as they promote buyer protection even on the top and bottom of all the motors section! Hope you managed to at least get the money back from the guy. The way ebay have organised things, they are giving ppl a licence to perform scams.

Where does everyone think I stand?
I've just found that too - you've definitely made my day! He seems to fall short on at least two reasons, Vehicles not being protected like you say, and also because it's a classified ad...I would maybe have been willing to reach a compromise with him, but with the bloody time this has now consumed plus his attitude, he can whistle for it! I think now looking at it, maybe he knows he doesn't have a leg to stand on, which is why he hasn't escalated it, he is trying scare tactics as the 'issue a full or partial refund' links keep coming up..! I'm surprised he's not on this forum, or maybe he is lol?

Where does everyone think I stand?
Thanks for the replies everyone, it's good to get a perspective from other peoples points of view. As I worded it to the guy, he's used paypal as a method to ensure he's reserved a car, then try and check it out! He walked away thinking he's secure in the knowledge that paypal will bail him out. I'm liking the exclusions list, I just hope that applies to paypal also...

Where does everyone think I stand?
Andy - not at all. He offered the money for screwing up my other deal and for time wasted etc. It's only now he's doing a complete U turn on everything.

Where does everyone think I stand?
I ought to mention that I didn't trust this to go smoothly, so I moved the £200 out immediately to my bank! I'm willing to sacrifice my ebay and paypal accts if they rule in his favour. I've done everything fairly...

Where does everyone think I stand?
The deal has to largely be done off ebay - with classified ads ebay get no extra cash if/when you sell, it's a one-off fee. Nothing has been done in writing at all, it's been over the phone. In my favour, he hasn't yet denied in the dispute that he said I can keep the deposit.

Where does everyone think I stand?
I've just checked on paypal, and there isn't a specific item number that he has been able to pay for (as the listing didn't end) but he put on as a note that it is a deposit for my car. Difficult one this :-s

Where does everyone think I stand?
They're already seeming to be acting on it Craig, it must have had some mention of my ad item number, but as I say, the listing is still active.

Where does everyone think I stand?
I'm currently advertising my zed on ebay as a classified. To cut a long story short, the guy (matt lewis racing) (mattyzx) wanted me to pass up another swap I was going to do, and sell my car to him for my asking price. I said how do I know you're genuine and won't nit-pick when you arrive? He said he already has a zed and knows the score with these cars, as long as there aren't plumes of smoke from seized turbo's, gouges in the bodywork, rust etc, he will go ahead. He paid me £200 deposit on the basis that none of these things (or equivalent) were present via Paypal. (No auction had ended, no offer was accepted on ebay, so my ad was still running). He turned up saturday to 'collect' the car. He noted that there was a slight tappet noise which is also present on his Zed, and proceeded to give it a 5 mile test drive. He commented that the suspension seemed stiffer than his, and realised that it was most likely due to having low profile tyres, as opposed to his standards. He said also that it didn't seem any faster than his standard car. Returning from the test drive he said that the car wasn't really for him as the tappet is worrying him! He said he was happy for me to keep the deposit for my inconvenience... Today, he has started a dispute wanting the £200 back! The tappet has been exaggerated to a major rattle that worries him ffs  He is saying that the mileage MUST be incorrect as he now doesn't like the paintwork, the interior colour coding, the harsh ride, the soft brakes and of course, 'the rattling of death'!!! As the deal was done technically out of ebay and only the item number mentioned in paypal, I'm curious to know what their 'take' on it is likely to be. How paypal are going to be able to decide this fairly, I've no idea, his 25,000 odd feedback/sales per month are likely to be a deciding factor methinks! I just keep coming back to the fact that he ruined one other deal for me, used my car for 5 miles and said to keep the deposit ! What is wrong with people?!

jdm 3 piece rear/tail lights
Hi, I have the centre section to match the outer lights. Have emailed you re: details of this.

Front indictors no longer working
That IS odd. The bulbs blowing could be coincidence, or really the only other thing (logically) that could cause them to blow is higher voltage? Have you done any work that may have affected the front half of the wiring loom? Have you measured for voltage using the body as a definite earth and on the +ve pin of the bulb? I'm assuming all other front end lights are intact/functioning?

Good news and bad!
Baz, I'm going to take a look at whether it has seized or if just the clutch needs replacing, if the entire compressor needs to be changed I'm probably going to leave it...sadly I think it's nearing my time to sell :(

Good news and bad!
Cheers, I'd have to take into consideration the price of a regas again at £50 is the only downside.
