I'm quite sure that that piece of sub frame is designed as a diff guard i.e. it'll take a thwack that would otherwise shatter the diff casing. Besides, I couldn't ever imagine causing damage to any part of the sub frame with a jack unless it was totally rotten. Also, which would you rather break, the diff guard or the diff?

I always use the U shaped bit you're talking about. It's a nice big chunk of the subframe and perfectly shaped for a proper jack shoe. Even though Nissan specify the diff casing as a legitimate jacking point, I wouldn't entertain that idea.

Not much point making a bunch of cosmetic crapola. Make stuff that is an upgrade to anyone because it's made of metal. I'd look first at plastic parts that break that are a PITA to get spares for. The lock linkages in the doors spring to mind for a start. Also a brake master cylinder brace that isn't a rediculously overpriced piece of angle iron with a nut and bolt welded to one end would be nice.
