Rev1Richie Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Quickie Can i jack the rear of the car up at the central location just behind the diff, its got fins and a square plug, thinking of putting the trolley jack right under this plug Rich Quote
davezx Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Best place to lift rear of car is using the tow eyes. Quote
Yowser Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Yes, the Diff is a good place. In fact its the Nissan reccomended rear jacking point. Be sure to use axle stands once its up though. Quote
Rev1Richie Posted May 15, 2011 Author Posted May 15, 2011 Cheers guys, i'll try the diff with a block of wood Rich Quote
Rev1Richie Posted May 15, 2011 Author Posted May 15, 2011 just a quickie. again.. just forward of the actual diff casting, is a u shaped bracket around the prop, is this the place of should i use the ACTUAL diff casting. Cheers rich Quote
Murmur Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 I always use the U shaped bit you're talking about. It's a nice big chunk of the subframe and perfectly shaped for a proper jack shoe. Even though Nissan specify the diff casing as a legitimate jacking point, I wouldn't entertain that idea. Quote
Steams Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 I've jacked up the rear via the diff casing loads of times without any problems. It's cast iron and less likely to bend than using a bracket on the subframe. Quote
Tudor... Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 I use the diff, not the section with the fins on tho, the fins would break easy, the forward section of the diff, and after recently removing it, and refitting, I can ssure you 100%, you will not damage it, damn thing is solid as shite, whereas the U shaped part you speak of, could easily be dented or worse... Quote
Murmur Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 I'm quite sure that that piece of sub frame is designed as a diff guard i.e. it'll take a thwack that would otherwise shatter the diff casing. Besides, I couldn't ever imagine causing damage to any part of the sub frame with a jack unless it was totally rotten. Also, which would you rather break, the diff guard or the diff? Quote
Tudor... Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 true, you would have to be a nugget, if a piece of wood is used it'd be fine, but some folk may just put the jack straight on the U piece, that would dent it, I've just had my subframe off, all stripped and painted, each to their own, either or I suppose, but I'll stick to the diff and a bit O' wood, damn thing weighs 8 stone and is solid... Both places are just as good I guess.... Quote
Rev1Richie Posted May 16, 2011 Author Posted May 16, 2011 Cheers guys, whatever method i used in the end, and it was a combination of a few, i got the end result. Rich Quote
