looking for job advice
Hi Steve, Sorry to hear about your predicament. I've just been told that a close friend who ,works for CapGemini in Italy, will be made redundant so the cull has definitely started. I would take the permanent role just to make sure you've got something coming in. The way I see it, a permanent role is only as "permanent" as you want it to be. Should you find a better paid contract role in the near future then you can always resign from CapG. Like everybody else says - having a job (any job) is better than no job at all at the moment. My wife has been unable to find employment for 6 months and she's a highly experienced marketing/communications manager. These are crazy times indeed. Good luck. Dan

Road trip weather this weekend
I didn't stay very long (I think it was only two days). Did really like it - very friendly and hospitable people. Has to be said though that this was in back in the mid '90s so things will have changed a lot in the meantime. I'm sure you'll have a great time! All the best Stu. Dan

Road trip weather this weekend
Stu - That sounds like an interesting drive. However, just a quick word of warning. I did a similar trip a number of years ago (Gothenburg to Skopje - had to collect a new Volvo for the Dutch ambassador's use). I can't remember where it was exactly but somewhere not to far past Zagreb there are a number of long tunnels. I was driving during the day (bright sun shine) and was absolutely blind when driving into the tunnels (hardly any lighting) only to find that the tunnel BENDS fairly sharply a number of times. Lets just say I was glad to have some clean underpants with me! So, moral of my post is, please drive carefully, expect the unexpected and don't take any unnecessary risks (especially in tunnels). If you need to stop for a nap/sleep then don't leave your car unattended in a motorway car park - I've heard far too many stories of burglarised & stolen cars in that part of the world. Have a great time! Dan

surf's up
My wife and I went to see the so-called "Severn Boar" a few years ago in Gloucestershire and were terribly disappointed - more like the Severn "Ripple" ... ;)

Viscous fan painting?
have seen this done many times before and is not a problem. Given the weight of the fan blades a couple of coats of spary paint isn't going to do any harm.

A disclaimer for someone to test drive my car?
I'm sorry but I see no legal way for you to do that. First of all, the car is SORN'd and uninsured so is NOT allowed to be driven (test drive or otherwise). Secondly, if you are letting someone else (test)drive your car you need to ensure that this person has adequate insurance coverage (ie, not just 3rd party, Fire, Theft). The onus is on you to ensure all documentation is legit and up-to-date. Lets just take the worse case scenario: Your car is SORN'd, uninsured and test driver is also unensured. He/she parks it up a tree causing damage to the car and injury to either/both of you. YOU, as the car's owner, are liable because you broke the law by taking the car out on a public road without insurance and road tax. Under no circumstance would you be able to recoup any money from anywhere - obviously not your insurance because the car isn't insured nor from the test driver as driving a SORN'd/uninsured car violates HIS insurance as well. So, best thing you can do is be honest with any potential buyer and explain that the car is SORN'd and uninsured. If they are REALLY serious about buying you will then have to tax and insure the car prior to driving it. Sorry mate, I've heard too many horror stories from people who were in the same boat as you and things went wrong ... Good luck with the sale though! Dan

Its home
Hi Lee, Congratulations! This has been a very long time coming and I wish you all the best with making the final adjustments to your car. I'm glad to have been of some use to you with the supply of parts, etc - if you need anything else you know where to find me! All the best mate! Dan

Have I missed anything?
Hi Ant, You'll also need a set of 6 new injector connectors as the Nismo 740's are now all modeled on the 1995+ cars. I can get these for you as well as any of the parts you still need to order. Can also recommend you buy all the upper/lower and insulator o-rings for the new injectors. Let me know if you want me to provide you with a comprehensive quote. Dan

Brake disks.....?
Hi Tony, As stated above by everyone else (thanks guys!) I can supply you with both DBA or 3G discs. There are a number of permutation available for each so you are best off having a look at the following page on my website which will explain one or two things: http://www.smithys-place.co.uk/brakes.php FYI: 3G disc are brembo casts which are then grooved (and/or drilled) in accordance to 3G's own specifications. The DBA discs are also excellent discs and can be purchased in a number of different configurations and materials. If you are looking for just stock replacements then I can recommend the 909/908 discs. If you are looking for a slight upgrade then the 4000-series is your disc of choice. If you need any further assistance, please let me know. Regards, Dan

Peers Morgan on Monte Carlo
I haven't seen the programme yet (have it recorded) but assume that the quoted price tag for the "average" apartment is a sea-facing penthouse opposite the Casino with reserved parking spaces. The parents of an old school friend of mine have what I would consider to be an "average" apartment in Monte Carlo (about 200 square meters living space with access to communal pool, 1 parking space, etc) and it is on the market at just shy of £2m. It's not sea-facing and is still in a desireable location (only 5 minute walk from Casino Square). Am going to have to watch that tonight ... ;)

Anyone gone out in the fresh snow yet?
;) Oh dear ... should be "brought in" ;) as "bought" implies you purchased it ... Would hate to think what that "machine" would cost! ;) LOL How are you Dave, long time no see!

Anyone gone out in the fresh snow yet?
Yep, just been out to the post office to post parcels to customers only to be told that Royal Mail has stopped working in our area so nothing is leaving the post office until tomorrow (probably). Had about 4-inches of snow and must say I'm grateful for having a 4x4 - managed to get around quite well considering the apalling state of the roads. Even certain main dual-carriage ways hadn't been gritted or cleared and some queues were horrendous where cars and lorries just couldn't get up the small inclines. I love snow - to look at - but despice it to travel through ...

Powertrix
Hi Ant, No worries mate - knowing Powertrix's quality is top notch you won't be needing my help! ;) With regard to the Ash Spec Radiator - I take it you're referring to their so-called double-pass aluminium radiator with shroud. If that is the case then watch this space as I'm about to release our own DTA Performance Radiator! It'll be a core identical to a KOYO Racing radiator (ie, proven quality and reliability) featuring a heavy-duty electric fan and fan shroud. Haven't got final pricing yet as I'm still in the design testing phase and ironing out some production issues. If you're interested I'll put you on my "list of people to keep informed" and contact you with the spec and price as and when it becomes available. All the best, Dan

Powertrix
Hi Ant, Yep, I [aka DTA-Motorsport (UK)] am the official sole UK distributor of all the Powertrix parts. That means that if you were ever to have any problems with any of their parts, regardless whether you bought it throung me or Powertrix direct, I will do my best to sort it for you. With regard to the US group buy - please be my guest to join in, I have no problem with that at all. The only reason I'm not offering this particular group buy here in the UK is the current strong Dollar exchange rate. By the time you convert the figures to Pound Sterling, add in transportation, import duty and VAT it would make no difference to buying the parts directly from me at the normal price. Good luck and let me know if you require any assistance. Regards, Dan PS - Ashley Powers is NOTORIOUS when it comes to customer service or even responding to enquiries. I refuse to do business with them precisely for that reason.

Sorry but i have to ask
DTA-Motorsport have a true 99-spec for sale which was a late 1998 build so can be legally imported into the country. It's a gorgeous, race prepped Version-R with all the trimmings. Fixed price at 15,500 Euro plus costs for transport, importation, testing and registration in the UK. I had a link up not that long ago somewhere on here ... can't find it now. Will look again later and post up if you're interested. Regards, Dan

okay, who thinks this guys got far to much money??
That's an InterGarage 3000 system. Very interesting concept but not well known. Incidentally, that video was taken by a Lambo owner (obviously) who frequents PistonHeads. They aren't all his cars - at the time of taking the video there was a meet in progress. As far as I know he owns a Diablo Roadster and a Purple Murcielago. Still, nice if you have the means ... ;)

Zed on a ramp for the first time !!
Hi Andy, Dan here, we spoke last week on the phone. I can help with the tension rod bushes as I've got a load coming in from Energy Suspension (ie, uprated poly urethane). Furthermore, I can also recommend our Powertrix adjustable tension rods if you are running lowered suspension (would suggest you also opt for the adjustable upper camber arms at the same time for optimum adjustability). HTH Dan

help needed
Hi Craig, In answer to your questions: 1) There is no difference between UK or JDM-spec oil & fuel filters. The parts you want are A5208-H890C (oil filter) & 16400-Q0805 (fuel filter). I have both of these in stock for next day delivery. 2) Spark plugs: if you are running a stock car (ie no modifications) then best to stick with stock NGK6B-11C plugs. Don't have them in stock at the moment but can get them from UK stock in 2 days. If you are running a modified TT then I strongly recommend the NGK PFR6B-11B plugs (£68 for set of six - currently on backorder) FYI: When changing the fuel filter, make sure you first take out the fuel pump relay. It is located in the engine bay in the small fuse box on the driver's side just by the brake booster servo. It is the inner most relay (ie the one closest to the engine. Also open the fuel flap and loosen the petrol cap so as to release any residual air pressure in the fuel system. You may then want to crank the engine a couple of times to remove as much petrol from the lines as possible. This will prevent excessive spray when you undo the fuel filter hoses. Inside one of the old fuel filter pipes you'll find a small plastic piece of pipe - this is a restrictor and needs to be transfered to the same location in the new fuel filter. Some people have reported not to have found this restrictor so if it is not there then don't worry. It is not doing the car any harm. FYI: Here is a quick quote for the filters from me (DTA-Motorsport (UK)): OEM020 - Oil Filter (genuine Nissan part): £7.00 OEM021 - Fuel Filter (genuine Nissan part): £14.00 You can find more serviceable items on our website: Smithy's Place & DTA-Motorsport (UK) Please let me know if you require further assistance. Regards, Dan

Brake pads needed
Brian, FYI: the pads arrived this morning and have gone out again this afternoon. With a bit of luck (& Royal Mail posties willing) you should have the parcel tomorrow (Saturday) or otherwise on Monday. Small tube of copper grease enclosed as well. All the best, Dan

Big brakes
Nice kit but: (a) Z32 stock calipers will only take upto a 30mm thick disc - the one advertised is apparently 32mm thick (b) going from 280mm to 310mm diameter is not going to make a big difference to braking performance. You'd be better off buying the mintex pads and sticking with the stock-sized setup. For proper big brake kits we can offer either the KSport setup (which is superb and comes with new calipers as well) or our budget big brake upgrade kit which consists of 324mmx30mm slotted DBA discs, caliper relocation brackets and braided brake lines. For more info on the KSport kits take a look at http://www.smithys-place.co.uk/brakes.php HTH Regards, Dan

Racelogic traction control
Dave, RL Traction control is quite simply the best aftermarket system you can buy. It is used by the likes of Koenigsegg, Ultima & Gumpert to name but a few. If you require more information or wish to place an order then please let me know - DTA-Motorsport (UK) is an official RaceLogic reseller. All the best, Dan
