Day 1, Auto-manual conversion :-D
Well ,not much happened yesterday, I had a big clean up and re grouped my tools which were everywhere and full of oil!! so tonight I had a polish underneath took a few pictures and ground the inside of the bellhousing out! I found out that there is only 4mm radius difference between the TT and the N-A Flywheels and the propshafts are well different as you can see in the pictures; Bellhousing ground out Manual gearbox Difference in propshafts Top shaft Auto TT and bottom Manual N/A Flywheel difference (not much)

Day 1, Auto-manual conversion :-D
Yeh me too! I lose too many nuts and bolts so an engine and gearbox rebuild would have to go to Jimmer and the likes, your right though its a good feeling doing it yourself. Its nice to have a little clean and polish whilst under there too Daz

Day 1, Auto-manual conversion :-D
LOL! I cant belive I`m that far either, The gear box slid out lovely, it snagged on the filler tube slightly but i just kept waggling whilst on the trolley jack and lowering a bit at a time and it just slid out! Amazing The only job I`ve ever done before this is change the shockers on my Cavalier, so i am well chuffed with myself! Still a lot of hard work to come, but i will deffo get some help from a mate who is a mechanic, when its time to put the new box in. Cheers Daz:thumbup1:

Day 1, Auto-manual conversion :-D
Well Day 2 and the auto box is out!!!!! I wasnt looking forward to coming home from work and then attempting to remove it, but it was quite easy even on my own!!! just me a 14mm socket and a trolley jack, piece of piss :sweatdrop: The hardest part is the 2 bolts at the top of the gearbox,so thats it for now, a big clean up underneath, get the underside of the car sealed and tidy my garage. Heres the moment i smiled Out and gone!! Flywheel, back of engine Fekin gear oil everywhere Bonnet off for easier access

Day 1, Auto-manual conversion :-D
Thanks Pete, Your a star, and thanks for your previous help. I understood 100% on what you had already told me,regarding the grinding out etc, but I couldnt get my head around what differences there were on the variation`s of N/a to TT Fly wheel fitments I will be going for the TT parts as my engine is putting out a bit more than stock as i have an uprated ecu and a boost controler set up. Thanks again for everyones help. Daz

THE OFFICIAL`ish 300ZX WEIGHT THREAD
That old list is a bit scrappy? Over the next few months i will make a tidy version and update the old lists with more accurate readings and probably make it indexed too Daz.

Day 1, Auto-manual conversion :-D
OK Great!! So,I understand why the bellhousing needs to be cut to accomodate the flywheel, I assume the only reason why people grind the bellhousing is that the N/A flywheel and clutch are not strong enough to take the TT power? Does that make sence? What I`m trying to say is, I have the N/a box and N/a flywheel but no cluch, so if i ordered a HI power N/a clutch would that do? I`m not tying to avoid paying for TT items, I am just curious of the differences. Daz

Day 1, Auto-manual conversion :-D
Hi Bud, Yeh, I was a little worried just having the car on axel stands, so i put blocks under the wheels and chocked everything up so it didnt move!! hence the propshaft was stuck in 1 position :headvswal Just curious, why cant the N/A flywheel and clutch fit the TT engine? Also i know about the grinding i need to do and the 5mm spacer on the Starter, It all made sense today when i had a good look at everthing, nice one I`m making another spacer for slick pete Cheers Daz.

What stereo
I bought a Hong pong 7" touchscreen, double din DVD,Bluetooth, radio,TV,sd card reader, camera input etc, and i love it!!!! MINT picture , and good sound quality, gives the pioneer, alpine ones a run for their money. If you are a serious Hi-fi fan then the sound wouldnt be good enough for you, but I think they are great Daz.

Day 1, Auto-manual conversion :-D
Well I started the big conversion this afternoon!!! And just got in, Black, bruised and aching, but loads done!! Got the car on axel stands 18" in the air, and removed drivers seat and interior parts to access gear knob etc, Removed exhausts, propshaft, starter, gearbox links and wires and fitted the pedal box , drained the gear oil and all ready to drop the autobox out tommorrow evening!! :sweatdrop: One f***in allen bolt on the propshaft took about 1 hour to remove as it was right at the top and i had a 1mm turn on the allen key, I nearly gave up after 20 mins but kept on and whoooo it came off!! I am a bit confused over the difference in flywheels? I have bought a N/A box to fit in my TT ,I am told that the flywheel is different? Why is it different and what are the differences? I will be putting a lightened flywheel and TT exedy clutch in but i was just curious of the differences? if anyone can shed some light on that for me it would be appreciated. Anyway thats all for now, I only wrote this to share with people who understand what I`m doing, as the girlfriend has moaned all day and thinks its a useless exersise!!! Women  Daz
