Tweeter location
I'm about to purchase some component speakers for the front of my Z. Where have people stuck their tweeters?! I'd like to put them somewhere at the top of the door, but I'm wondering if the best place is actually the dash. Any pics would be handy! Ta muchly, :D Mark

Auxilliary Air Valve bypass
Haven't had time to search the forum :slap: so the answer may be around somewhere, but... I'm trying to see if a rough running problem I have may be the AAV (i.e. the metal contraption bolted to the passenger's side of the plenum right at the back) by bypassing it. I propose to unplug the plenum tube from the valve and seal it off, but I need to know what the sensor on the valve does- is it open- or short- circuit depending on temperature, or is there a resestive load variable thingumybob? Failing that, please could someone stick a multimeter on the valve contacts when the ingine's hot and let me know what the resistance is? Cheers! Mark

rear of engine pics?
Apologies for going down the side-topic of throttle body bypass  , but on the following thread, especially post no. 11, there are some nice big pics of the back of an engine removed from the car. I think it shows all you need for the driver's side coolant pipes but not the passenger's side. Half-way there! It's actually the driver's side where I think I have my leak so I might be ok!) But going back on-topic, you can at least see the heater matrix pipes on the engine. :) Mark http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=38578

rear of engine pics?
Greg- is there a definitive pic showing before and after pics of doing a bypass? I've been meaning to do this for ages but I'm not sure I can work out exactly what needs doing! Mark

Mmmwahah! Back up and running again! :nana2: Cheers for that... just have to hope I receive my keyring now... :D Mark

Paid for resubscription, but no effect!
I resubscribed about a month ago. Told MTL, who also asked for my address for the keyring. Gave all that info, but I haven't received my keyring, and I'm no longer considered "subscribed" and therefore can't read my PMs to check when I did all this! Mark

Turbo Whistle
What about oil circulation? If you're working the tubs when cold then you won't be getting nice, warm oil round them. Once the oil's heated up and thinner it'll get to the parts that, er, cold oil can't reach :D The only times I've ever had whistle are when having to boot it with a cold engine (pulled out of a blind-ish T-junction, nutter comes charging round the corner). Just my 2p :)

Weird noise - help!!!
Just a small point to add while I remember it, a general prop-bearing thing! When my propshaft bearing went I had vibration between 30-70mph, but every time the car was jacked up it would flex the chassis & drivetrain in a particular way such that when I drove the car again afterwards the vibration would be minimal. After a day or so I'd have the bad vibes back again! Got very confused getting my wheels rebalanced- thought "it's cured it, oh no it hasn't!" Wasn't helped by the garage actually not balancing one of the wheels right on one occasion... thought I was going mad! I put it down to the centre UJ being a bit stiff. Er, so in summary, the vibe can come and go... :) Mark

Disappointing Dyno!
Stock Jap ECU, so I wouldn't get to peak power in 4th. :( I should have gone for a speed converter box instead of the resistor mod! :headvswal

Your help required.....
Not sure if I've got anything worth submitting, but I'll certainly buy the finished product! :D :nana2:

Disappointing Dyno!
In order... Safety boost (PaulC) - Well the last time I did a diagnostic was a while ago, but it was AOK. I'll do a cursory check again, but getting boost of 5-6 bar is about right for normal boost isn't it? A/F (SkylineDave)- hmm... maybe I'll have to get it done properly! Yeah it was roasting that day, humid too. Funnily enough, today the cat overheat lamp started flickering, so maybe I'm overfuelling. It didn't stay on, but that's one thing to look at. SRRAE- LOL! What does anyone thing of 3rd gear vs 4th gear. Would I be right in thinking it wouldn't affect the power readings? Mark

Amazing! Is the only word I could come up with...
OMG! You have to admire the attention to detail really!!! I was going to say the plasma ball is a bit OTT, but then what's the rest of the car?!

Inner brake / fog light conversion
Sounds like an elegant installation! Mark

Disappointing Dyno!
Got my stock car dyno'd today. Not enthralled with the result- only 192 bhp at the wheels, but 241 lb/ft torque. If someone could cast their expert eye over the numbers I'd appreciate it- I just really want to know if they stack up and for some reason my engine just isn't that powerful, or whether the run itself looks dubious. They didn't measure the other useful bits of info, like A/F ratio, etc... http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=51672 Cheers... Mark

Inner brake / fog light conversion
2- 1 for each side :) I tried drawing a diagram for both inner lamps and it was just a nightmare! So I hoped that people would get the idea from this, and just duplicate it. If you need any other help let me know! :D Mark

brake lights
Sounds like a bit of a funny one! Is it definitely the brake lights, or could it be the side lights? And you don't mention your head or side lamps- I presume they work ok? I'm struggling to think of ways it could fail in this way. The stop-and-tail-lamp sensor is only fed from 2 sources- the brake lamp switch and the light switch. Normally the brake switch also feed various other systems (ABS, HICAS, power steering, and cruise control), so I guess it's possible that if one of those systems failed it might back-drive the brake light circuit, but I'd say that's VERY unlikely! Are you getting any other warning lamps? I'm not trying to cast doubt on your abilities :) but are you measuring the voltage correctly? It's a pain, but I think you'll just have to work your way back from the stop-and-tail-lamp sensor with a multimeter until you find where the feed is coming from. Not sure if I've been much help there... :( Good luck matey, Mark

IT help needed! Recovery of XP OS...
Looks like another 2am evning for me! :D Many thanks for the tips, I'll post up as things get better or worse! AngusGlover- you say WIN PE installs stuff- does it do that without overwriting anything on C? SRRAE- I've mentioned my symptoms above, but apologies if they're not clear! Apart from the initial BIOS screen (if that's what you call it- mem check, American Megatrends or whatever) then the error as mentioned above is the only thing that is reported. And it happens every time- XP never loads. Cheers again chaps! Mark

IT help needed! Recovery of XP OS...
Cheers for the help chaps- I wasn't aware of the NTFS thing! As soon as it starts to boot up it comes up with a path, rather than a specific filename, that it says is missing (something like C:\blah\blah\Windows\System, but that's not it exactly). I only have the XP recovery CD that came with the HP notebook and the only way it will "recover" the OS is to format C: first  and that's the only partition (why oh why didn't I set up partitions after the last time this happened :headvswal ). Do you reckon I can repair this XP using a different XP CD? Anyway- tonight I'll check those utilities you linked to Steve. Cheers again, Mark

IT help needed! Recovery of XP OS...
My girlfriend's got XP on her notebook, but while I'm computer literate I'm still using 98 on my PC and I don't know a huge amount about XP. Basically the FAT seems to be completely corrupt- XP itself won't load whatsoever, and when I put my 98 boot floppy in it says that there is no valid FAT on C:  Running off the 98 boot floppy, the hard disk simply doesn't exist, but it's present in the BIOS setup. Now I'm assuming this will be terminal, but if anyone knows of any tricks that could help get it back up and running, if only to back up her contacts to USB drive, then I'll be forever grateful!!! Cheers Mark

Have you noticed much difference ...
Only got a stock gauge and (surprise!) it sat happily in the middle. Spent a lot of time stationary on the M25 too, without suncream  After about an hour (had moved a bit by then :D ) the fan decided to come on, but that was the only change to the norm! Quietly chuffed :)

Think you got engine bay bling?
All that time, effort and money, and no attempt to disguise or move the battery!

M4, Saturday, one white, one red
The white one at 9:15, around J33 heading East. Had a high wing and slotted nose panel. The red one at 18:10, around J41 (Port Talbot) heading West. Looked stock. If either of you saw an MR2 heading the other way with 2 bikes strapped to the engine cover I was in that one! (Jay300ZX's 2nd motor- give him a car, and he'll find a way to stick bikes on it!) Had a blinding day MTBing in Afan, Wales. Bloody hard work in those temperatures though... Mark
