Fastest Zed In Country?
afternoon all i was wondering if any one knows who currently owns the fastest Zed in Britain...? im interested in quarter mile times, not top speeds. do you think its some one from this forum or from another Zed related club? I know Mac1(  ) has an impressive machine, but i know there are other projects going on behind closed doors that are less well publicised... :)

Remote locking kit?
if you dont mind getting your hands dirty taking your zed apart, there are a few universal kits on flea bay that comprise 4 locks, pins, reciever unit and 2 remote keys. downside is you will almost certainly have to customise the kit to fit in the doors. i got a kit and fitted it to my pug306, took 2 days from start to finish - mounting pins in doors and changing angle of some pins took the most time. havnt needed to fit a kit to my zed though as my clifford alarm has a remote key built in to it. hey... clifford and toad alarms can be payed for in installments of £10 a week or month or something.. i read on an ad in a mag somewhere...

Only 124bhp at the wheels. Ouch!!
damn, sorry to hear that mate. whats the power at the fly then...180 tops? you are right about the wrong combination though, but you didnt buy the car for its performance, did you? personally i think looks and ride quality are more important in a NA LWB. im not an authority in any way on autos, but there is always an order of things to check when looking for lost power:( did you book the car in with MJP eastern auto (brentwood- mikey boy feeney) or are they completely different? ) find someone with a conzult! (mike has one). find out if all your electronics are functioning properly to start with- the trouble with old cars, looms get hot on a v6, connectors get brittle and crack...etc. then its all down to the engine and trans. compression test, gasket replacements, flush oil lines and fuel lines, see whats going on in there to clog up the power. hope this helps.

Brake upgrade
sounds like the finished product is going to be very tasty indeed! what power are you running in your v8 mate? and what are you using the car for when its finished? iv got the 350z brembos (front and rear) i was talki ng about for my 500hp track 300zx, and im told they are perfectly adequate for the task as stock, and im planning a few upgrades when the discs and pads wear out - DBA5000xs discs and ferrodo pads. cost me a grand for the set. is there a recognised limit when it comes to brakes, or is it a case of the skys the limit as long as your pockets are just as limitless? ;)

Brake upgrade
good man, i can see you are serious when it comes to modding your zed, and i wanted to express my opinion from experience for the benefit of anyone reading the thread- not neccesarily to give you advice. :D would be nice though- one piston on the brakes for every one in the engine! a v8+8! :D

Gear box advice
thats the trouble with 16 year old cars mate, as super as we make them they are still that old. i had the same trouble with my last 2 boxes- its the gear synchro mesh, it does wear out, specially when the cars driven to the red line... rather than get them recon'd, i bought another 2nd hand box and went through the same process... now on to my 3rd second hand box- this one i have been assured is fine. recon is inevitable im afraid my friend

Brake upgrade
IMHO i think a mod as important as the brakes should never be taken too lightly. i use ebay for less important things such as cosmetic mods, accessories, second hand OE parts etc- NEVER anything as vital in a car as the brakes, turbos (or even second hand cars for that matter!) Ebay has a well deserved reputation for the products advertised to be lacking in quality, i have found this through personal experience. my rule for ebay is never spend more than £100. every transaction is a gamble, and when things do go wrong there is very little support from ebay, or the sellers (if they dont feel like it). i have also read all the for and against arguments on the gtr forum, and i have to say, common sense is screaming out "the against arguments are justified, and the for arguers are in need of a lesson in common sense". too willing to trust, and missing the point that ebay is a site where people sell products with the intent to make as much profit as possible from each sale. this means cheaper quality materials, less involved manufacturing processes etc. i can guarantee that ANY 'buy it now' auction where they have large quantities of stock to move, no matter what the product, will be of a lesser quality than advertised. the guys that have already installed the kits are saying they have noticed good improvements over their last set up... but what i would be interested to know is where these 8 pot kits stand when compared to other 8 pot kits from the competition. and who will notice the difference between an 8 pot kit and a 6 pot kit from a company with a distinguished reputation? as much as i hate to admit it too, bigger isnt always better! (anyway those pistons look tiny tiny tiny) for that much money, there are other upgrades possible that have next to no risk involved (already well proven in performance and reliability)- such as evo, gtr or 350z brembos (as i have), and you can get a full set (front and rear calipers and discs) for the same money and retain the factory brake bias! surely a bonus for a track car. the argument goes on, but to finish this post, as a fellow 300zx enthusiast, please dont place your life in the hands of an ebay product- buy from a well respected trader on a club site (or smithy lol :p :D just joking dude) and have the confidence that a face to face transaction with decent customer support after the sale gives you. it just isnt worth the risk at the end of the day mate.

ah so. i did have a butchers at those when i was choosing my new wheels, nice job that man. at the risk of getting technical now... what extra stresses and strains do spacers in general (and spacers that wide) put on the wheel bearings? iv seen a freshly imported TT that was used for drifting with 5 mil spacers just on the rears, so is that a poorly informed mod? how do they affect performance driving?
-

iv never seen 350 nismos on a 300 before, mmm very nice, how are you going to get the rears to fill out- that looks like a good 1.5" to 2"s... do spacers work that far?
