My 1993 Swiss 2+2 TT manual has key operated central locking.

 

Is there a simple aftermarket kit available to convert to remote locking? I suppose it only has to send a signal to a receiver wired into the existing hardware, so it shouldn't be such a big job (I don't need an alarm system combined with the central locking, so don't need door sensors, etc. wiring in). Don't suppose that it being lhd makes any difference...

 

Anyone know of one that is suitable and who might supply them?

Yes you can buy a remote locking kit. You will need a universal 2 wire locking motor for the drivers door for it to work.

Not an easy job, bit fiddly to get the motor to fit in the door and connect it up but can be done.

if you dont mind getting your hands dirty taking your zed apart, there are a few universal kits on flea bay that comprise 4 locks, pins, reciever unit and 2 remote keys. downside is you will almost certainly have to customise the kit to fit in the doors. i got a kit and fitted it to my pug306, took 2 days from start to finish - mounting pins in doors and changing angle of some pins took the most time. havnt needed to fit a kit to my zed though as my clifford alarm has a remote key built in to it. hey... clifford and toad alarms can be payed for in installments of £10 a week or month or something.. i read on an ad in a mag somewhere...

Why buy a kit of 4 motors when you only need 1 ???

You will need a universal 2 wire locking motor for the drivers door for it to work.

Ah, I see – so it has to go in the door. Obvious when you think about it, I suppose. Can imagine it is fiddly.

Which kit do you use and where do you site it?

Only a small box, will fit under the dash easy. I get mine from Microscan but all pretty much the same.
