Engine stops after a mile
Thanks Sayers, I have a series 2 PTU fitted and relocated to under the nose cone and also have a spare series 1 PTU. I'll try and swap them over, see if that helps but surely the EML would flag up a faulty PTU? Probably not near you, I'm in Dunfermline ?

Engine stops after a mile
Following on from my previous post about this new problem with my Zed. My Zed engine stops after driving for about a mile, it restarts and runs for about another mile and then does it again. I had thought that the old Meta alarm/immobiliser was at fault (it had been giving problems),so I bought and installed(eventually) a plug & play replacement (HPA EVO) alarm/immobiliser..... No change, the engine stops after about a mile of driving, no warning, no stuttering, just engine stop and all lights on dash. Shift into Park position (auto) and it starts right away, no hesitation - a mile down the road it does it again. ECU Talk throws up error 34, knock sensor, that's all. If it was the PTU, surely the EML or a code would flag up? The car will idle away for as long as you want, no problems - but when you start driving, then the problem arises... As it only happens when driving, would a faulty inhibitor switch cause the problem? Any help or thoughts are much appreciated. Andy

PTU, Immobiliser or something else?
Okay, no fault codes found. Forgot to say - I have ECUtalk - doh! Strange thing, the car sometimes will start now, without pressing the immobiliser button on the fob... I think (I may well be wrong) that the old Meta immobliser/alarm system is packing up. Does any one know where on the car, that the immobiliser can be found - or even what am I looking for (square black box maybe)? Thanks again - Andy

PTU, Immobiliser or something else?
Hi all, A really strange fault with my Zed today (1993 TT Auto), after about a mile, the engine cut out. No misfire, no judder, no warning - it just cut out and all the dash warning lights came on. I coasted into a parking space, drew to a halt and restarted the car......all good. Half a mile along the road , the same thing happened, no warning other than all the dash lights on. Restarted again no problem, drove home (another half mile) and parked up. I checked under the bonnet for loose wires, checked the PTU terminals and wiring - all okay. Let her idle for ten minutes, again - all okay. No hesitation, she idled away fine. Took her out again and she cut out again.....pfft. My first thought was PTU, second was an immobiliser problem ( an ancient Meta system). Any thoughts guys? Andy.

MOT test updated re HID retrofitted headlamps
Well, my Zed just passed it's MOT last week with aftermarket HIDs fitted. I think that as ever, it's down to the person that tests the car on the day and their knowledge and understanding of the regulations.

Scotland - November 2019 Meet.
Unfortunately, real life has gotten in the way of any Zed related business for me in the past eighteen months, just as well 'cos the head gasket(s) have let go! However at the end of this month, the Zed is going into a garage to have the head gaskets and other items replaced, all being well - I'll have it back for the end of the year. Although, the nearer it gets to going away for repair, the more things I come up with that I'd like to modify/ renew/ remove.....such is life. Hopefully, I'll have a fully working Zed for the new year.

Sniff test.....damn!
Thanks for the replies guys, based on what's been said - I'll have to get someone to do the job for me, 'cos aged 63 with a bad back....I ain't gonna pull the engine

Sniff test.....damn!
Hey all, The Zed has been behaving for the past six months (just replaced all the tyres and had the wheels refurbed a few months ago) but now I have a sniff test fail :( After giving her some welly a couple of weeks ago, I found a small amount of oil in the expansion bottle, followed by white smoke (steam) coming from both exhausts. Fearing the worst, I carried out a sniff test today and the indicator showed yellow (combustion gases in the coolant). Car is a 1993 UK spec and just approaching the 100,000 mile mark. Now, I've previously replaced the timing belt, done a plenum pull, bypass and delete with no real problems...… Big question - how difficult is it to do head gaskets on this engine, in situ? Any advice is most welcome. I'm not bad with the spanners, just a bit slow - but there's no hurry, no deadline to meet. Obligatory photo attached ;) [/img]

One to keep an eye on...
Is it just me, or do both the steering wheel and hand brake lever look excessively worn for the stated mileage on the car

New tyre age
Personally. I that that's a bit old for a new tyre.....what brand are they and who supplied them? I've got new tyres arriving this week - I'll let you know the dates on them.

Nope, don't have that "View entry info" box showing in any of the cars/items for sale, maybe a member status problem.....

My Derrière
Thanks .007, I can't take the credit for the rear spoiler and the decals (the previous owner can 'tho). I imported the smoked rears from the 'states - the illuminated centre panel came from a member of the forum. And the car's a deep metallic purple....lol Here's a side view... [/img]

My Derrière
Hey all, After four years of being off the road, my Zed is now taxed, insured, Mot'd and actually running  Four years ago, I took the plenum off in order to do the water bypass, amongst other things. Just then, real life got in the way and the car was put on the back burner for a couple of years until life got back to "normal". With some sense of normality returned - I eventually got my act together and now have a running Zed - not perfect - but good enough for the time being. Here's a photo of my rear end...

ECUTalk gauge analysis help
I've now adjusted idle to 650 RPM with AAC disconnected and approx. 750 rpm connected. I still have the high? reading of about 50 on the AAC gauge. What kind of air leaks am I looking for, are there any common offenders when you have had the plenum off?

ECUTalk gauge analysis help
Absolutely no idea, I'll check that tomorrow night.

ECUTalk gauge analysis help
The plenum has been off a couple of times..... You think that it's drawing air somewhere?

ECUTalk gauge analysis help
Thanks, is there any other data that I should be checking?

ECUTalk gauge analysis help
Hey all, At last I have my engine up and running after my mis-threaded spark plug scare :) I've invested in an ECUTalk connector cable and have for the first time, a working set of diagnostics for my Zed. In the attached photo, can anyone lend their expertise on the gauge readouts...are they okay? Just where do you start when checking the engine's performance? Opinions welcome - thanks - Andy
