  2. If the HICAS light came on after you'd been driving in a straight line for a while it may have been because it detected what it thought was a problem. Is your steering wheen centred properly ? ie When you are going in a straight line is the steering wheel straight ahead, or off-centre ? If it is off-centre for a certain period of time then the HICAS reckons there is a problem and shuts itself off. Fix is usually to get the steering wheel centered, by getting the front wheel tracking is corrected the steering wheel is in the central position. Not saying that is couldn't be a fluid level problem of course, but where would that have gone unless its leaking ?
  3. 15mpg probably isn't too bad if you have heavy feet, driving lots of short journeys in the winter etc. However, if that is throughout the year then you should be looking closely at your MOT emissions test results and considering whether you have a subtle problem like a sticky O2 sensor. I monitor my fuel consumption very closely (to the point of being anal about it!) and when it dropped from 20-21mpg to 17mpg I started looking for problems and found that my LH O2 sensor was heading south. Fixing that (and replacing the PCV's) immediately put the consumption back to about 20.5mpg.
  4. No need to disappear just because you don't have a Zed. We haven't got rid of Matty and Hairsy ! ;)

It will be pretty obvious if the centre bearing is completely shot because the rubber support around it collapses completely. (I think there is a photo of it on Jeff's site). Your mechanic should spot that immediately. Another contributing factor is the rear gearbox support which sags over time. The bad news is that both of the are parts exclusive to Nissan. Centre bearing is around £150 and the support is about £45. Better start calling Mike Feeney I reckon ...
  6. Yeah, but that's only because most web servers are now IIS and M$ f*cked with the alleged 'standards' !

That'll be Paul Farnworth or PistonBroke on here. Actually, 99% of all the Zed (Zee) parts sold come from the US. ;)
  8. Yeah, I saw that, thought it was yellow though. I watched it 'live' but my TiVo also recorded it and I intended to watch it in slo-mo to try and catch the number plate, but forgot and deleted it ! It was in Leicester, right ?
  9. Is this what you mean ? http://www.300zx.org.uk/nissan_bulletin.htm
  10. It depends upon how badly stuck they are, but usually a footpump will do the trick.
  11. Hey, you can't include John Leslie in this - he was after Ulrikkakakakakaka - hardly the same thing as child molesting FFS !!!

  13. So how is it you came to have an SE autobox rebuild ?
  14. If it's from Smithy then it will be polished stainless. I want one myself, but in carbon fibre ....
  15. Sorry, I was actually referring to the original BG stuff we were discussing not the zx1. Just read some of the zx1 website - quite interesting.
  16. So does mine but that's because someone stole the autobox and replaced it with a manual !!! LOL ;)
  17. So back to the real world. I accept the fact that the motor industry may have little incentive to use the stuff (although I'm sure they'd rather sell a car as a disposable unit that never needs servicing, so they don't have to stock spare parts etc), but if there is one place where reliability in extreme conditions is critical and where financial contraints are almost non-existent, then it's the world of racing. So do any F1 teams use it ?

I would start thinking propshaft centre bearing and possibly rear gearbocx mount. Try a search, there's been plenty posted on this in the past. There is also a tech article on the Aus forum about it.
  19. I think I saw that same demo on one of the digital shopping channels, although with a differently branded product - very interesting. Whether it is truly representative of conditions in an engine remains to be discussed. Also if it is really that great then wouldn't the manufacturers put it in and recommend it, when the car is first made - that would make very little difference to the cost.
  20. If your cars are being properly serviced then it should be changed every 2 years anyway :- http://www.300zx-twinturbo.com/manual/ma/008.gif
  21. Mines only come to a grinding halt once and that was due to the autobox failure. Had I known then what I knew now I may have been able to prevent that. Whether I would have done is a different matter, but that's hindsight for you ! Aside from that, wear and tear has been in line with that of a 10 year old car.

Well according to the Z Centre site they're £246 for the fronts and £264 for the rears plus VAT, so that must make the total within a few pence of £1200 !! Plus whatever the tyres may be worth ... However, 2nd hand is 2nd hand. ;)
  23. When was the box last serviced (i.e. fresh oil) IIRC this should be done every 2 years. Have you done the diag checks yet ? Any probs ? I suspect that you should be checking whether the A/T control unit is seeing the revolution sensor and speed sensor signals. Lots of relevant info linked from here :- http://www.300zx.org.uk/tech_09.htm
