OK, have thought about this for a while and am prepared to nominate myself, seconded by Macca and Mike Groves. (Mike, if I've jumped to any conclusions then please say so!) There doesn't exactly seem to have been a rush for this post, so if anyone else wishes to stand then please say so ASAP. Should I be sucessful then I would stand down as Technical Officer, leaving that role open to someone new. Andy

No turbos generally have lower compression ratio because there is already more air in the cylinder before it's compressed, therefore the resultant pressure at the point of combustion is greater - hence more detonation (and expense!)

I got a brand new gearbox, still on the Nissan pallett for a grand. Not sure how much the recon will be, but I'd guess that the parts will be £100-200, plus labour.

Yeah, mine does the same - hence the brand new box sitting in the garage. A bit extreme I know, but then I'll refurb the old one and sell it. Redline does make a little difference but at approx £60 I'm not sure it's really worth it - if the synchro is shot then different oil won't fix it !

Yeah, I'm pretty certain I had that valve in place, but still had the problem. Tested the valve and it wasn't faulty, so I put the tanks in - problem goes away. Nissan must have had a good reason for the design ...

Hmmm, I'm certain that my speedo only had one pot., now I'm going to have to take it apart to be certain. I do know that it's a UK speedo, but not sure whether it's Series I or II ....

Maybe he does but I tried it without and it made driving the car very strange. If you blip the throttle, on changing down for instance, then the clutch pedal kicks back at you, which makes catching the correct biting point a bit of a lottery.

You can bypass the tank(s) altogether but I wouldn't recommend it. Maybe Mark will post up with what he did.
