  1. just to give you a rough idea i sold my front and rear disks, calipers and pads for £200 to one of the sxoc guys
  2. it cant be 14 psi if your not running boost jets or a boost controller, stock is 9psi (i think, but somone will confirm)
  3. also depends on if your insured FC or TPFT, if TPFT the disposal of the car is your responsibility but most insurers will sort it out anyway. but it gives you the upper hand cos you can get paid out for the right off and they can't touch your car
  4. I certainly don't know about the zed as much as JD, Duffer, Lymon, etc. its scary how knowledgable they are specifically on the zed but its a damn good thing we have them.
  5. Whatever Iain, I'm not going to be baited into a personal slanging match. You have every right to think/beleive what you do but that doesn't necessarily make you correct and so whoever you were referring to, this comment was unjustified especially seeing as you simply copied and pasted a generic SMIC vs FMIC response with no background explanantion. __________________ The theory is spot on, any increase in volume of the inlet piping will lead to an increase in lag as defined by Paul. However in the Z specifically, the air travels a long and tortuous path (many bends) to the inlet manifold because the air is collected at the front, travels to the rear lower part of the engine bay (compressor) and then back to the SMICs at the front before going back again to the inlet plenum. There is already an inherent lag which to us is stock response. Any increase in lag depends on the increase in volume relative to the existing volume of the inlet pipework. The increase in volume is a small fraction of the total volume and therefore the increase in lag is a small fraction of the intrinsic lag. In practical terms you would not even feel this! IF you fit a larger intercooler and you actually notice an increase in lag then unfortunately you are using an intercooler that is way too big for your application and you need to downgrade beacuse you are actually hindering performance. Yes FMICs look the *****x but unless your pushing big power you dont need them. If you want to improve charge cooling, spend your cash on a water/methanol injection kit or on a chargecooler with an independant coolant supply. Yaseen
  6. a club email address (for subscribed members only)! eg. ya5een@300zx.co.uk
  7. someone who finally gets it! thank god some of us can read. ;)
  8. :D DEBATE!!!
  9. all im saying is on here everytime somone says something that someone else dsnt agree with they get put down or woteva, i was just giving my opinion and would gladly be corrected by somone who could explain to me how and why instead of just take th piss. if you re read my posts you'll c me and paul were talking about two different things mainly because when we at Holset talk about lag we mean spool up time. so yes i do no what the **** im talking about, seeing as i match prototype turbochargers to engines that havnt even been released yet everyday. the debate here should not be about SMIC vs FMIC which is what it seems but about volume.
  10. don't take a genius to work out who you mean, i dont care tho, im just saying what i think, i never claimed it was th gospel truth its all good copying and pasting but wouldnt it be alot better if you explained to us plebs how you come to those conclusions and why someone is wrong and i have to agree with chris, Greddy FMIC
  11. a crucial point i just realised is what are we all defining as lag? if we are talking about the time taken for the turbocharger to spool up (which is what im referring to) then no there is no increase in lag by changing the volume of the intercooler. if we mean the time taken for full boost to be generated in the intake manifold (which is what i think Paul is talking about) then yes there is a minimal increase in lag.
  12. primary because compression also takes place in the intercoolers which makes that the seconadary compression stage  [thermodynamics]
  13. which is why i said the following! there is effectively an increase in pipeing volume/length however you want to measure it but the amount is too small to make noticeable difference is lag. according to your theory Paul its not a case of FMIC vs SMIC but Small vs Big
  14. i cant see how an FMIC will increase lag, the intercooler is a 'treatment' after the primary compression stage and the turbine is still being driven by the same exhaust gasses. you will more likely experience a higher drop in boost pressure across an FMIC compared to a SMIC, but not much
  15. there is less restriction in the exhaust piping so you lose back pressure
  16. just dug this up: http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=45053&highlight=generic
  17. have u checked the throttle cable for slackness yet? if the autobox is on its way out an fluid change may only delay the inevitable
  18. from advice/info i've read on here: - there isnt a power fc for the z32 - better to have a custom mapped chip than an e-manage
  19. spot on! and this is coming from a relatively new member shame on all you freeloaders :mac1:

could be loss of tension in the throttle cable, i know that messes with the shift points

  22. placing an order for me and a few other guys some time next week, if you fancy anything my contact details are in my sig... Yaseen
  23. saw it again today, strosek (not wide arch rear), viper front, black bonnet with bonnet bulge, black headlamp panel, 3 pot leds, tailgate tub. definately had the 300zx.co.uk sticker so whos is it!!?? yaseen
