Hi, I don't think it's your PTU cos it wouldn't rev properly past 2.5K, it would splutter. Make sure your coilpack connectors are fully pushed down. I had exactly the same symptom a while back and it was one of my connectors not all the way on (only slightly). Vijay

also check that the starter motor housing hasn't broke. Mine did on one of the mounting brackets (the bolt screw had threaded) so some of the time the starter motor would not be fully engaged. Vijay
