  1. Hi, Where is the best place to buy an oil filter for an NA, and can you confirm that I need approximately 4 litres of oil max? Thanks.
  2. Boldy, what's the best way to check the items that you've mentioned, i.e. where do I need to look?
  3. Thanks isyss. It's an E280 Avantgarde with a tiptronic gearbox. The garage details would be most welcome.
  4. Thanks guys. I'm hoping that with the wings and arches, bonnet and boot lid replaced, there isn'tmuch left to rust in the future!
  5. Thanks guys. Obvious question is of course why do I want to keep it? Stupid and sentimental I suppose, but here goes: - Had it for 6 years.Never let me down and know the car inside out. -Performs brilliantly. Very fast (can keep up with my NA Z), smooth and refined, economical (32mpg on motorway) and still looks great (as long as you are far enough away not to see the rust bubbles!). The problem with getting rid of it is that for similar money, I could buy something that's unreliable and with an unknown history. I simply don't have the dosh for something newer, nevermind new so the scrappage £2k is a non-starter. My thinking was that as stupid as it may sound, £2k will give me a car that is not only mechanically sound but also cosmetically perfect. All of the garages have offered 5 year warrantys on the work. So even if it lasts another 2-3 years, that's not too bad for £2k. I fully understand your points though! Some pics below. Hard to believe it's terminally ill...
  6. I have a question that I would like to run past the community as you have much more experience than I have. I have a Merc E Class which is absolutely riddled with rust and needs sorting. Those of you that don't know, this model (95-02) has major bodywork problems and MB has shelled out millions in claims over the last few years. Unfortunately, not for me... Anyway, basically the whole car needs sorting but the summary is: - New bonnet - New boot lid - 1 new front wing - 2 rear arches to be sorted. Will involve cutting and welding new metal. - 1 door skin to be replaced. 2 other doors to be repaired. - Full re-spray for the whole car, to the existing colour. MB have quoted 3-4k, and 2 other garages 2-3k. It's a huge amount of money to shell out for a design which is not fit for purpose, but in terms of the work required, does the money being quoted sound reasonable?
  7. Does the Z really only need just under 4 litres of oil? My wife's 1.0 Micra needs 3.5 litres and my 2.8 Merc takes nearly 9 litres! Why does the Z need so little?
  8. Thanks guys. Tried WD40 and it had a slight effect, not much. Will slowly work my way up the ladder. Furniture polish or nail varnish next!
  9. Thanks guys. Strangely no noise at all today!
  10. Didn't want to spoil DAZ1s thread so I thought I'd ask the question in a separate thread. I've recently noticed a sound when the car is cold which sounds like tappets. What's the significance of this? Should I be worried? It's an NA.
  11. Hi guys, I know this question has been asked several times and I've trawled the forums but can't find the perfect answer, so here goes again. 1. I have some remnants of an adhesive stuck to my dash which needs removing. In direct sunlight, it softens when the dash is hot but what is the best way to remove this safely, i.e. without damaging or melting the dash? It's above the air vents, on the soft part of the dash. 2. What is the best and safest method of removing the Fairlady sticker on the rear of the car? It's embarrassing! 3. Once (2) is done, where can I get a good quality replacement NISSAN sticker that looks genuine. Thanks in anticipation.
  12. I guess I'm a lot older than most of you guys but haven't had that many really. My family have always kept cars long term and I guess I'm the same... 1st : Ford Fiesta Popular 1.0 2nd : Rover 214 SLi (very classy interior and super revvy Honda inspired engine) 3rd : Vectra SRi 150 (was a brand new company car, I was 25 and I still have a soft spot for it. Jet black, fast and excellent handling). 4th : Mercedes E280 Avantgarde Tiptronic - CURRENT 5th : Nissan Micra LS 1.0 (Wife's) 6th : Nissan Micra Shape 1.0 - (Wife's) - CURRENT 7th : Nissan 300ZX NA - CURRENT Future plans: Who knows the future, but would like to replace the E280 with a Merc CLS (best looking saloon IMO) and keep the Zed for a while. Pity there is no upgrade path for the Z as both 350Z and 370Z are 2 seaters. Skyline R34? (R35 way out of budget!)
  13. My Zed currently has a Pioneer Carrozzeria fitted, comprising 2 units: DEH-P500 (CD Player) KDS-P500 (Cassette) One of the 2 also seems to includes a pretty powerful amplifier. The unit is clearly at least 10 years old (or older), Japanese spec and was probably a very high end unit when fitted. I've been trying to figure out all of the features but am struggling and need to get hold of the user manual. I've looked everywhere on the net but no luck. Normally I would have just replaced it but as it seems to be a very high quality unit, I want to try and keep it if possible. Any ideas?
  14. Hi, Does anyone know where I could get hold of a brochure or Zed for an NA? I assume it would need to originate from the US or Australia, but any advice welcome. Thanks.
  15. My E280 had been feeling somewhat sluggish for the past few months, and matters came to a head a few days ago when anything other than a feather light right foot was causing the car to stutter and refusing to accelerate. Took it to a Merc garage today and the result was a new MAF (and a huge bill!). Voila! Feels like a new car; amazing how you get used to things. The only problem now is that it doesn't feel any slower than my rejuvenated NA Zed...
  16. Main gripe I've always had is that the back looks like the front. Someone got that incredibly wrong and then some idiot allowed it to go in to production!
  17. No problem although I was thinking of a no-cost swap.
  18. Hi, sorry regi users aint permitted to sell on these forums
  19. On a separate but related question, is there any way to make a Z engine scream like a Ferrari or NSX engine? In other words, is there a clever exhaust system/device that allow that type of sound to be emitted? Sorry for the layman nature of the question, but something I've mean meaning to ask!
  20. Senna did indeed help develop the car and as he was (and is) my hero, I have a soft spot for the NSX. Much as I love the Z32, the NSX is a far better car as it really is engineered to perfection. In fact, the main criticism was that it was TOO good, the same issue being unfairly thrown at the GT-R. The only thing it lacks is 2 seats in the back (which is why I could never have one) and outright character and personality, which the Z has in abundance. Mind you, the sound of the NSX engine is so addictive... If you can afford one, get one as they are so rare, and that engine...
