The great insurance thread 2009!
35, 5 years no claims, driveway, Admiral, £650 fully comprehensive on a 1993 Import NA. Some of you are paying far less than me! Am I missing something as Basingstoke is a lw insurance area...

VERY annoyed!
Definitely name and shame him. You're probably lucky not to have bought off such a person.

Anyone got an OEM Gear knob for sale?
Bought the manual one off ebay and it arrived today. The photos on ebay were terrible but the knob has turned out to be very nice to a good buy. Thanks for spotting it! Had a nightmare removing the old one and after trying to behave in a civil manner (I wanted to retain the old one), decided to go native and effectively twist the thing off with a ratchet. It certainly came off and the new one is now looking gr8. Safe to say the old one looks more like a dead animal...

Hammerite On Brake Calipers?
I'd like to paint the 'Nissan' on my brake calipers with white Hammerite paint as I have some in the garage. Is this OK, i.e. will not burn?

Hi Jeff, I've recently bought a Z and would like you to have a look at it as it has some issues. You're very highly recommended so can I please have your email address and phone number so we can arrange something? Thanks.

What do you think of this
The interior looks lovely. What happened to this car?

TOP GEAR - The one wev'e been waiting for!
Predictably offensive but not surprised! Gr8 to see it on TV and I have to say it did look nice, including the interior. Amazing deal for £1500 and seemed to work very well. Hopefully won some new fans despite Clarkson's comments!

ZedWorld (again)
Your Z looks gr8. Not many cars look classy in yellow. The only other one is the Diablo...

Woah, steady boy! 90degrees in the rain!
Thanks guys; fun and helpful as always. Great that the sun is shining today so can't experiment...

Woah, steady boy! 90degrees in the rain!
Driving in the rain, turned a corner in second, put my foot down and whoosh! The car slid 90 degrees before I had to wrench it straight again! Scary to say the least and I think the car behind me was absolutely terrified. The car's a NA, I've been moaning about lack of power and the tyres have lots of tread. Is this normal? Does the car have any form of anti-skid/spin? My rear shocks are due to be changed shortly as they are finished; would they 'help' the car to spin/slide? The only reason I ask is that I have driven more powerful cars in the past of a similar configuration (RWD, Manual, over 230bhp) and never had it slide so easily, even in the rain. It was fun though, if a little scary! I have to say that I tootled home after that...

300ZX Key Fob Question
Hi Guys, Below is a picture of my key Fob. This for a 300ZX NA. So far, I know the following: A - Locks car. B - Unlocks car. Does anyone know what C & D do? Thanks.

300ZX Knowledge & Experience Much Appreciated
Strobing - yes they did and stated it was slightly out. Don't have any more detail. Prop bearing - what does this mean in £? Could be likely. Steering vibration - fine under breaking. Also had them checked and they are OK. Bushes could be a cause. Would these not cause vibration at high speed?

300ZX Knowledge & Experience Much Appreciated
Hi guys, Would welcome your knowledge and advice again as I've had the car for 2 weeks now and done some more testing/assessment. I'm loathed to just part with hundreds of pounds (unbudgeted) without having confidence that it will actually make a change. For those kind enough to recall, I have an issue where by my Zed seems to have low power to 3500 revs and then wakes up with a fury. It is also seems to have flat spots in this range, is not smooth and to be honest seems to struggle and vibrate. Although the visit to Ztech a week ago improved things somewhat, we parted on the note that in their opinion, the timing belt was a couple of teeth out and this was the cause. Re-doing this would solve my issues. Having reflected on this for a week, I'm still to be convinced that firstly this is actually the case (not saying I don't believe ztech but find it hard to believe that the person who had it changed did not notice the change immediately and therefore get it sorted) and secondly that it is the cause of all ills. Anyway, another week of driving and the following experiences: - Though better than 2 weeks ago, car is still not smooth or powerful to 3500 revs and seems to have flat spots. It also vibrates on speeds of 30/40/50 mph. The steering wheel also vibrates (which I assumed could be as simple as wheels needing balancing). - Once past 3500 revs, a huge surge of power comes in and the engine is happy to rev past 5000 revs although I am backing off at this value as I don't want to wreck the engine (yet!). - Motorway driving has revealed that at a steady 70 mph (!!!), the car is very smooth. Rock solid, no vibrations, very responsive and ready to surge ahead. As for the steering wheel, the lack of any vibration suggests that the wheels must be balanced otherwise surely the steering would vibrate (Am I correct?). Any comments welcome, because as I said, I don't want to spend any money blindly until and unless I have confidence that the problem is understood.

just saw my first 370Z
Much better looking than the 350 but still not a patch on the 300! Pity it's only a 2 seater. Circumstances and all that...

Rust Proofing on an Import
Does anyone know how good the rust proofing is on an import? Are there ways of getting the car treated to resist rust, especially the underside?

Mercedes E280 Vs 300ZX
Legrath - thanks for your advice. Very informative as ever. FunkySi - your interior is very, very nice and the colours are classy and really accentuate the beauty and elegance of the original design. Where did the Z engineers and designers disappear to after the Z32? The engineers probably moved to the Skyline team but the designers...
