max Boost ?
Just discovered mine was p1ssing air out of the vac hose tonight on top of all the other daily faults!! Can you imagine life without the Zed? We'd all be soap freaks!

Pinking above 10psi
That's what I thought after finding Shaun's to be so far out too. I used the diagram below to locate cyl 1 & the notch in the crank pulley was clear to see as was the timing scale.

Crankshaft sprocket removal
There's definately one in there cos I was looking at the two 5 mins ago still sat in the end of my crank! Your crank pulley bolt is probably very tight and so you've got away with it so far but seriously for the amount of time it takes to install one, I would definately get it done.

Pinking above 10psi
LOL!! I checked the timing and it was 30 deg BTDC@750rpm   Adjusted and she runs like a dream. :). All I can say is a big thanks to all of you for your advice and of course a big thankyou to Steve for lending me the timing gun. We also checked Shaunmac's and his was 30 deg BTDC too  but his wasn't pinking at all  . I'm :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: now! Cheers Dave

Crankshaft sprocket removal
Andy you just reminded me of what happened to my Citroen CX years ago. The sprocket bolt came loose and this DID have a woodruff key in it! I was blissfully unaware that the pulley was slowly eroding the end of the crank away until one day the engine started overheating and the battery light came on. I ended up having to replace the whole fooking crankshaft so after remembering this, my advice is not to run it at all. I'd hate to see a  post!

Pinking above 10psi
Thanks Andy. Funny you should mention FUEL. Noticed a strong smell of it when I opened the hood! After I've fixed the leak I'll check the timing etc. Do you think that the leak could have contributed to this fault?

Why didn't I miss the telegraph pole!! :-(
The good thing is that the wings are easy to remove as is virtually all of the front end so any minor jigging shouldn't be an issue. I'd be having a go.

Crankshaft sprocket removal
Yes, mine did have a key. I suppose as long as the crank pulley was tight enough then the timing belt sprocket wouldn't have moved but then again, I wouldn't have risked leaving it out!! Hi Steve, you don't work for HSS Tool Hire do you - LOL! I'll give you a call tomorrow. I can leave work for an hour at dinnertime if that suits you? Thanks again Dave

Pinking above 10psi
Thanks Steve, I work in Bangor so that would be great if you're sure you don't mind. I never knew the JWT chip still had the safety map - cheers Vijay. I may try the 1 Meg resistor trick to see if I get normal 9psi without the HKS EVC connected cos I've just found out that the ECU doesn't always give a code 34 when the det sensor is faulty!

Crankshaft sprocket removal
Hi Andy - it came off pretty easily when I gave it a tap. Thanks for the sound advice mate. ;) Dave.

Crankshaft sprocket removal
Hi Andy. I bought one today but there's not enough clearance to get the jaws of the puller behind the sprocket.

Crankshaft sprocket removal
 Has anyone removed this or does it require a special tool?

Pinking above 10psi
Hi Andy, I've no idea! I'm gonna try and get hold of a lamp tomorrow and check it properly. Prior to fitting the HKS EVC5, I was only getting 7psi boost with and without the boost limiter solenoids connected (maybe they're normally powered up though) but an ECU check didn't show the usual 34 to indicate an O/C det sensor? Cheers

quickest and easiest way to remove locking nuts
I once got some off my old Merc with a hammer and chisel. I had to do it that way because the caps would just spin around so using a socket would have been pointless.

Pinking above 10psi
Hi all. After fitting another engine and a HKS EVC5 a while back I decided to try increasing the boost above 10psi today. The ECU has a JWT chip installed so it should cope with 12 psi and more but I could hear pinking/detting once the boost went much over 10psi. Does anyone know if the JWT chip still has the "safety boost" fuel map cos I suspect this might be due to lack of fuel? Could a faulty lambda/knock sensor fuel pump/controller or even injector cause this? I'm in the dark with this one! Cheers Dave.

forged pistons??
Thanks for your advice guys. Dewi - I'll check those sizes tomorrow. Cheers Dave.

Just had an accident
Sorry to hear about this incident and the Chavvy tw@ts. I once hit a learner driver once who swerved into my lane AND slammed on! When I hit him he went flying through a set of lights, narrowly missing a speeding car coming towards us. The joke is the guy who was speeding got out and had a go at the learner driver for "pulling out" on him!? I'm fitting an aftermarked bumper soon so you're welcome to my black stock one. The upper part is mint but the bottom has a few scrapes underneath. Dave

Goldwave is good.

forged pistons??
Hi Dewi. I'm considering going down that road too. I've got some spare stock pistons you can have from my spare engine if still needed. Does anyone know which forged pistons are best to go for? I'm considering Wiseco atm. Cheers Dave.

advice on removing manual gearbox pls
Hi matie - not heard from you for a long time. Have you still got Adam's old Zed? How's it running these days? Dave
-
Mmmmm R35?
5 Studs on the front & 4 on the back. Anyone know where I can get that mod :D ;)
-
can this be right
Mine was slow when I bought it. Turned out to be a faulty knock sensor which puts it into safety boost mode (7psi instead of 9). Also the air filters looked like they'd been in there since 1990! It was a different car after that.

advice on removing manual gearbox pls

NZR - Eprom programmer wanted
Just noticed this but the PSU looks to be faulty. They're not switched-mode though so should be easy to repair. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=40004&item=3875831527&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW
