  1. went to look at one yesterday and he's putting it through its MOT today. nice looking car and sounds sweet, etc but i dont know stuff all about the 2.0 turbo apart from what pug say (150bhp, 0-60 10.3, 130mph, 37.7mpg). anyone had one or know how reliable (or not) they are? any common faults, etc? cheers. si.
  2. 5.4 0-60 what have you been reading? and dont think you're going to lose a lot off that with a 2wd car. best thing for acceleration is going to be moulded slicks then chip, filter, exhaust. wouldnt really bother with shorter ratio's on the auto as when you start to mess with it all you'll get is wheelspin. and DO the 'box cooler mod.
  3. ^what he said^

thats really good news. getting more normal so soon after a big hit like that bodes well. lets hope it aint that long till you're back in a Z. just keep doing what you're doing. good to see you're up. si.
  5. AFAIK any 'leccy contacts can get cleaned with contact cleaner but dont hold me to that. lol BTW are they lexus wheels you got mate?
  6. AFAIK cruise sontrol just works on throttle - it gives more to go quicker and less to coast. what the gearbox does after that is irrelevant(spelling?) to the CC computer. not sure but im wandering if the axle ratio is different? also the auto has different turbo's and a different ECU map (presumably to suit). not sure if much else is different?
  7. good choice. i had the option of a few cars when i got the Z (had 10k at the time) but the Z was the one that impressed me the most. you'll be hapiest when its done.
  8. oh, yeah... and the 5 tyre valves. 32. lol
  9. dunno on the 16v but on 8v lagunas the marks are on the belt! took me an hour to find that out. lol
  10. you can get over 20mpg out of a TT. its just VERY rare you will. cold starts, traffic, heavy right foot, what mood its in, all make a big difference. personally i'd think you'd be lucky to see over 15mpg daily driving. and as said it WILL go well below 10mpg if you're using it (which you wont be for most of the first 6 months if you like living). Keano - i wasnt on about the age mate. to me i think you should be allowed to drive from when you can see out the car. its the experience i think that should be built up. as oyu found out for yourself (and you sound sensible enough) the Z's a different game altogether. mayb we should be allowed to drive from 14 in something really slow and small (aixam 500?) then have a different test for each level of car (normal test upto 1000cc then 1.5, 2.0, etc) and make the test relative to what people will drive? (turbo's, RWD, etc) then if we crash (and there is any blame on them) we should have to do it all again. bet that would take some of the idiots off the road. that leaves more room for us!
  11. i saw one the other day that had 22 and a few bits of chewed up metal in the sump but mine all have 24 aswell.
  12. also if its a weekend car it may be worth getting an optimate (thats for bikes but i take it they would work on cars too) or the like. keeps the battery tip top and charged while you arent using the car and if you hard-wire it to a plug all you have to do is plug it in when not using the car. works well on his zx10r.
  13. wasnt there a fad a few years ago with ultima red(yellow?)tops? as i recall they used gel instead of water and were guaranteed for an age. they were very popular with the max power brigade and there huge power sucking ice before power caps really came along. could be worth a look if you are going to have to replace anyway?
  14. looks like the b45tard child of an evo and an R34GTR. not fussed either way about it.
  15. you just aint right. really, you aint.
  16. true. i never thought about the climate. more IC sounds like a VERY good idea.
  17. if he runs 16g's on stock internals he'll get a good power agin and it'll be a lot less strain on the tubs than stock trying to push more air than they can cope with. if he's not going to be ripping his engine apart its going to be the safest way to make more power. only prob is he'll pay for it in lag.
  18. evo's are ok but it aint a real sports car. its more a tuned family car. 4WD is great off the line but you pay for it in handling hence the twitchyness (they didnt want it to understeer like the impreza does). also i keep hearing about diffs, clutches, etc etc on the earlier (upto the 6) cars eating themselves when they get used hard regularly or get tuned. RX7 - i'd buy one of these if it had any guts before boost and didnt need a rebuild everytime you get carried away for more than 5 mins. great car but.... Z - always have silly probs but you can (once sorted) get real power and torque with at least some longevity. also, if you're not gunning it the Z actually rides well and is comfy. dont think you can say that for an RX7 and evo's bounce around a lot. also, if you're going to go play, do you head for a housing estate with 90-deg bends and s#1t tarmac of do you go find a nice bit of twisting A or B road? if its the first get an evo. if not keep the Z.
  19. i got stock tubs upto 1.3bar. this resulted in a blown engine a week later. it still ran fine too (1st V4 1/2 Z i've seen). ;o) it was good fun while it lasted though. the new engine should be able to do that all day long when i finally get 1.money and 2.my lazy ar5e into gear.
  20. go for 14-16psi (if the turbo's will push it safely) and get it set up on the dyno. then you'll be wanting bigger intercoolers and injectors to further. 290@wheels sounds about right on 12psi with a good set up.
  21. on the dash inside the car or above the screen inside?
  22. 130psi's too low relative to the others and says you have a sticky valve, broke rings, blown headgasket or something else to lower comp. poss worth repeating that test though. same goes for 135 on the other side and i'd presume there would be a prob with the 170. you sure you did the test right? on both sides it looks that the middle cyl is ok which would normally rule out interference between cylinders (headgasket or cracked head/block [not likely anyway]).
  23. if he's getting 16g's he can de-cat it safely though. and with 555's, bigger coolers, etc i think it'd be more "how far do you want to push your luck" rather than "you might just about get". you could probably get a dyno run at 500bhp on that lot but i doubt it would last long. some say the internals will take 600bhp. some say after 400 the gearbox breaks. all depends on who you listen to. is there anyone on here with that spec? then you can see how reliable it is on what power. si.
